NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem. He did not do what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.	1 Akaz avait 20 ans lorsqu’il monta sur le trône et il régna 16 ans à Jérusalem; il ne fit pas ce qui est juste au regard de Yahvé comme l’avait fait son ancêtre David.
2 He followed the example of the kings of Israel, even having images cast for the Baals;	2 Il suivit les traces des rois d’Israël et fit même des idoles de métal en l’honneur des Baals.
3 he burned incense in the Val ey of Ben-Hinnom, caused his sons to pass through the fire of sacrifice,copying the disgusting practices of the nations whom Yahweh had dispossessed for the Israelites.	3 Il fit fumer de l’encens dans la vallée de Ben-Hinnom, il y brûla ses fils par le feu selon la pratique odieuse des nations que Yahvé avait dépossédées devant les Israélites.
4 He offered sacrifices and incense on the high places, on the hil s and under every green tree.	4 Il offrit des sacrifices et fit fumer l’encens dans les Hauts-Lieux, sur les collines et sous tout arbre vert.
5 So Yahweh his God put him at the mercy of the king of Aram, who defeated him and took largenumbers of captives, carrying them off to Damascus. He also put him at the mercy of the king of Israel, whoinflicted heavy casualties on him.	5 Yahvé son Dieu le livra entre les mains du roi des Araméens; il fut écrasé et on lui fit beaucoup de prisonniers qui furent emmenés à Damas. Il fut aussi livré entre les mains du roi d’Israël; ce fut pour lui une grande défaite.
6 In a single day, Pekah son of Remaliah kil ed a hundred and twenty thousand in Judah, al of themprominent men, because they had abandoned Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	6 Pékah fils de Rémalyas tua en un seul jour 120 000 hommes de Juda; tous étaient de bons soldats, mais ils avaient abandonné Yahvé Dieu de leurs pères.
7 Zichri, an Ephraimite champion, killed Maaseiah the king's son, Azrikam the control er of thehousehold and Elkanah the king's second-in-command.	7 Zikri, un brave d’Éphraïm, tua Maaséyas fils du roi, Azrikam, le maître du palais, et Elkana, un officier du roi.
8 Of their brothers, the Israelites took two hundred thousand captive including wives, sons, daughters;they also took quantities of booty, carrying everything off to Samaria.	8 Les Israélites firent 200 000 prisonniers parmi leurs frères de Juda, en comptant leurs femmes, fils et filles, et ils leur prirent aussi un important butin qu’ils emportèrent à Samarie.
9 Now there was a prophet of Yahweh there by the name of Oded, who went out to meet the troopsreturning to Samaria and said, 'Look, because Yahweh, God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah, he putthem at your mercy, but you have slaughtered them with such fury as reached to heaven,	9 Un prophète de Yahvé nommé Obed se trouvait là; il sortit au-devant de l’armée qui rentrait à Samarie: “Regardez, leur dit-il, Yahvé Dieu de vos pères a livré Juda entre vos mains dans sa colère; mais vous, vous les avez tués avec une rage qui montait jusqu’aux cieux!
10 and now you propose to reduce the children of Judah and Jerusalem to being your male and femaleslaves! Have you not yourselves committed sins against Yahweh your God?	10 Maintenant, vous parlez de réduire en esclavage les gens de Juda et de Jérusalem, hommes et femmes. Mais n’êtes-vous pas aussi coupables envers Yahvé votre Dieu?
11 Now listen to me: release the captives you have taken from your brothers, for the fierce anger ofYahweh hangs over you.'	11 Écoutez-moi maintenant: renvoyez ces prisonniers que vous avez faits parmi vos frères, car la violente colère de Yahvé vous guette.”
12 Some of the Ephraimite chieftains -- Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berechaiah son of Meshil emoth,Jehizkiah son of Shal um and Amasa son of Hadlai -- then protested to those returning from the war	12 Certains parmi les chefs d’Éphraïm, Azarias fils de Yohanan, Bérékya fils de Méchillémot, Yiskyas fils de Challoum, Amasa fils de Hadlaï, s’emportèrent alors contre ceux qui revenaient de la bataille:
13 and said to them, 'You must not bring the captives here, for we have already sinned against Yahwehand you propose to add to our sin and guilt, although our guilt is already great, and fierce anger is hanging overIsrael.'	13 “Vous n’amènerez pas ici ces prisonniers. Voulez-vous donc nous rendre coupables envers Yahvé et ajouter encore à nos péchés et à nos fautes, alors que nous sommes déjà terriblement coupables et qu’une violente colère nous guette.”
14 So in the presence of the officials and whole assembly, the soldiers gave up the captives and thebooty.	14 Alors les soldats abandonnèrent les prisonniers et le butin en présence des chefs et de toute l’assemblée.
15 Men nominated for the purpose then took charge of the captives. From the booty they clothed althose of them who were naked; they gave them clothing and sandals, provided them with food and drink,mounted on donkeys al those who were infirm and took them back to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to theirbrothers. Then they returned to Samaria.	15 Des hommes furent désignés personnellement pour s’occuper des prisonniers. Avec le butin ils habillèrent tous ceux qui étaient nus, ils leur donnèrent des vêtements, des chaussures, à manger et à boire. Ils les parfumèrent et les renvoyèrent - on avait fait monter sur des ânes ceux qui étaient épuisés. Ils les reconduisirent à Jéricho, la ville des Palmiers, au milieu de leurs frères, après quoi ils rentrèrent à Samarie.
16 This was when King Ahaz sent asking the king of Assyria to come to his assistance.	16 En ce temps-là le roi Akaz envoya demander au roi d’Assyrie de venir à son secours,

19 For Yahweh brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, since he behaved without restraint inJudah and had been unfaithful to Yahweh.	19 Yahvé avait humilié Juda à cause d’Akaz, roi d’Israël, qui laissait tout faire en Juda et se montrait infidèle à Yahvé.
20 Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria attacked and besieged him; but he could not overpower him.	20 Téglat-Phalasar, roi d’Assyrie, l’attaqua et l’assiégea au lieu de le secourir.
21 Although Ahaz robbed the Temple of Yahweh and the palaces of the king and princes and gave theproceeds to the king of Assyria, he received no help from him.	21 Alors Akaz dépouilla la Maison de Yahvé, le palais royal et les maisons des chefs pour faire des cadeaux au roi d’Assyrie, mais cela ne servit à rien.
22 During the time when he was under siege he disobeyed Yahweh even more grossly, this King Ahaz.	22 En effet, durant cette période où il se voyait pressé de toutes parts, le roi Akaz continua d’être infidèle à Yahvé.
23 For he offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus who had defeated him. 'Since the gods of thekings of Aram', he thought, 'have supported them, I shal sacrifice to them, and perhaps they will help me.' Butthey proved to be his and al Israel's downfal .	23 Il offrit des sacrifices aux dieux de ses ennemis de Damas qui l’avaient battu, car il se disait: “Puisque les dieux des rois d’Aram leur apportent du secours, je leur offrirai aussi des sacrifices pour qu’ils m’aident.” C’est ainsi qu’ils le firent trébucher, lui et tout Israël avec lui.
24 Ahaz then collected the equipment of the Temple of God, broke up the equipment of the Temple ofGod, sealed the doors of the Temple of Yahweh and put his own altars in every corner of Jerusalem;	24 Akaz rassembla les objets de la Maison de Yahvé et il les brisa; il ferma les portes de la Maison de Yahvé et se construisit des autels à tous les coins de rues de Jérusalem.
25 he set up high places in every town of Judah to burn incense to other gods, thus provoking the angerof Yahweh, God of his ancestors.	25 Il établit des Hauts-Lieux dans chacune des villes de Juda pour y faire brûler de l’encens en l’honneur d’autres dieux, ce qui provoqua la colère de Yahvé, le Dieu de ses pères.
26 The rest of his history, his whole policy, from first to last, is recorded in the Book of the Kings ofJudah and Israel.	26 Le reste de ses actes, tous ses travaux du premier jusqu’au dernier, sont écrits dans le livre des rois de Juda et d’Israël.
27 Then Ahaz fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the City, in Jerusalem, though he was nottaken to the tombs of the kings of Israel. His son Hezekiah succeeded him.	27 Akaz se coucha avec ses pères et on l’enterra dans la Cité à Jérusalem, mais non dans les tombes des rois d’Israël. Son fils Ézékias régna à sa place.
