NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem. He did not do what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.	1 - Acaz aveva venti anni quando cominciò a regnare e regnò sedici anni in Gerusalemme. Egli non operò con rettitudine agli occhi del Signore, come aveva fatto suo padre Davide;
2 He followed the example of the kings of Israel, even having images cast for the Baals;	2 ma camminò sulle vie dei re d'Israele, e inoltre fece delle statue di getto ai Baalim.
3 he burned incense in the Val ey of Ben-Hinnom, caused his sons to pass through the fire of sacrifice,copying the disgusting practices of the nations whom Yahweh had dispossessed for the Israelites.	3 Bruciò incensi nella Valle di Benennom e fece passare i suoi figli attraverso il fuoco, secondo il rito dei popoli, che il Signore aveva sterminato all'arrivo dei figli di Israele.
4 He offered sacrifices and incense on the high places, on the hil s and under every green tree.	4 Di più egli faceva sacrifici, bruciava incensi sulle alture e sui colli e sotto ogni pianta fronzuta.
5 So Yahweh his God put him at the mercy of the king of Aram, who defeated him and took largenumbers of captives, carrying them off to Damascus. He also put him at the mercy of the king of Israel, whoinflicted heavy casualties on him.	5 Perciò il Signore Iddio lo abbandonò nelle mani del re di Siria, il quale lo sconfisse e tolse un gran numero di preda del suo impero, che essi portarono a Damasco. Fu pure abbandonato in potere del re d'Israele, che gl'inflisse una grande sconfitta;
6 In a single day, Pekah son of Remaliah kil ed a hundred and twenty thousand in Judah, al of themprominent men, because they had abandoned Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	6 e Facea, figlio di Romelia, uccise in un sol giorno centoventimila uomini valorosi di Giuda, perchè avevano abbandonato il Signore Dio de' padri loro.
7 Zichri, an Ephraimite champion, killed Maaseiah the king's son, Azrikam the control er of thehousehold and Elkanah the king's second-in-command.	7 Nello stesso tempo Zecri uomo potente di Efraim, uccise Maasia, figlio del re, Ezrica, capo della casa reale ed Elcana, il secondo dopo il re.
8 Of their brothers, the Israelites took two hundred thousand captive including wives, sons, daughters;they also took quantities of booty, carrying everything off to Samaria.	8 Inoltre i figli d'Israele fecero prigionieri fra i loro fratelli duecentomila tra donne, fanciulli e fanciulle e, fatta una sterminata preda, la portarono in Samaria.
9 Now there was a prophet of Yahweh there by the name of Oded, who went out to meet the troopsreturning to Samaria and said, 'Look, because Yahweh, God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah, he putthem at your mercy, but you have slaughtered them with such fury as reached to heaven,	9 Eravi in quel tempo colà un profeta del Signore, chiamato Oded, il quale uscito incontro all'esercito, che tornava in Samaria, disse: «Il Signore Dio de' padri vostri, essendo sdegnato contro Giuda, ve li ha dati nelle mani e voi li uccideste con tanta crudeltà, che la vostra atrocità è giunta fino al cielo.
10 and now you propose to reduce the children of Judah and Jerusalem to being your male and femaleslaves! Have you not yourselves committed sins against Yahweh your God?	10 Di più volete assoggettarvi in qualità di servi e serve i figli di Giuda e di Gerusalemme, la qual cosa non deve essere fatta, poichè con ciò voi avete peccato contro il Signore Dio vostro.
11 Now listen to me: release the captives you have taken from your brothers, for the fierce anger ofYahweh hangs over you.'	11 Ascoltate, pertanto, il mio consiglio: riconducete i prigionieri che avete fatto tra i vostri fratelli, poichè il furor grande del Signore sta sopra di voi».
12 Some of the Ephraimite chieftains -- Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berechaiah son of Meshil emoth,Jehizkiah son of Shal um and Amasa son of Hadlai -- then protested to those returning from the war	12 Allora alcuni tra i principi dei figli di Efraim, Azaria, figlio di Joanan, Barachia, figlio di Mosollamot, Ezechia, figlio di Sellum, e Asama, figlio di Adali, sorsero contro coloro che tornavano dalla guerra,
13 and said to them, 'You must not bring the captives here, for we have already sinned against Yahwehand you propose to add to our sin and guilt, although our guilt is already great, and fierce anger is hanging overIsrael.'	13 e dissero ad essi: «Non introducete qua i prigionieri, perchè altrimenti peccheremmo contro il Signore. Perchè volete accrescere il numero dei nostri peccati, e colmare la misura degli antichi delitti? Poichè questo è un gran peccato e l'ira del Signore sta sopra a Israele».
14 So in the presence of the officials and whole assembly, the soldiers gave up the captives and thebooty.	14 I combattenti allora abbandonarono la preda e tutto ciò che avevano catturato dinanzi ai principi e a tutta la moltitudine;
15 Men nominated for the purpose then took charge of the captives. From the booty they clothed althose of them who were naked; they gave them clothing and sandals, provided them with food and drink,mounted on donkeys al those who were infirm and took them back to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to theirbrothers. Then they returned to Samaria.	15 e gli uomini sopra nominati, presi i prigionieri e tutti quelli che erano ignudi, li rivestirono delle spoglie e così rivestiti, calzati e rifocillati di cibo e di bevanda, li unsero per la fatica riportata e ne ebbero gran cura. Quelli che non potevano camminare ed erano deboli di corpo, li posero sopra cavalcature e li condussero a Gerico, città delle palme, ai loro fratelli, ed essi fecero ritorno a Samaria.
16 This was when King Ahaz sent asking the king of Assyria to come to his assistance.	16 In quel tempo il re Acaz mandò a chiedere soccorso al re degli Assiri.
17 The Edomites again invaded, defeated Judah, and carried off captives,	17 E gl'Idumei vennero e uccisero molti di Giuda e ne riportarono gran preda.
18 while the Philistines raided the towns in the lowlands and in the Negeb of Judah, capturing Beth-Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco and its dependencies, Timnah and its dependencies and Gimzo and itsdependencies, and settled there.	18 Anche i Filistei fecero scorrerie nelle città della pianura e a mezzogiorno di Giuda e s'impadronirono di Betsames, di Aialon, di Gaderot, di Soco, di Tamna, di Gamzo e dei loro sobborghi e vi si stabilirono;
19 For Yahweh brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, since he behaved without restraint inJudah and had been unfaithful to Yahweh.	19 poichè il Signore aveva umiliato Giuda, a motivo di Acaz, re di Giuda, e l'aveva privato del suo soccorso, perchè aveva disprezzato il Signore.
20 Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria attacked and besieged him; but he could not overpower him.	20 Fece poi venire contro di lui anche Telgatfalnasar, re degli Assiri, il quale lo ridusse alle strette, e, senza trovar resistenza alcuna, devastò il paese.
21 Although Ahaz robbed the Temple of Yahweh and the palaces of the king and princes and gave theproceeds to the king of Assyria, he received no help from him.	21 Perciò Acaz, spogliata la casa del Signore, la reggia e le case dei principi, mandò regali al re degli Assiri; ma questo a nulla gli giovò.
22 During the time when he was under siege he disobeyed Yahweh even more grossly, this King Ahaz.	22 Durante il tempo di tali sventure il re Acaz accrebbe il suo disprezzo verso il Signore,
23 For he offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus who had defeated him. 'Since the gods of thekings of Aram', he thought, 'have supported them, I shal sacrifice to them, and perhaps they will help me.' Butthey proved to be his and al Israel's downfal .	23 immolò vittime agli dèi di Damasco, che l'avevano oppresso, dicendo: «Gli dèi dei re di Siria sono ad essi di aiuto; io me li propizierò con vittime ed essi mi aiuteranno»; ed invece furono per lui e per tutto Israele causa di rovina.
24 Ahaz then collected the equipment of the Temple of God, broke up the equipment of the Temple ofGod, sealed the doors of the Temple of Yahweh and put his own altars in every corner of Jerusalem;	24 Dopo aver distrutto e spezzato tutti i vasi della casa di Dio, Acaz chiuse le porte del tempio di Dio e si eresse altari in tutti gli angoli di Gerusalemme.
25 he set up high places in every town of Judah to burn incense to other gods, thus provoking the angerof Yahweh, God of his ancestors.	25 Parimenti costruì altari, per bruciarvi incensi, anche in tutte le città di Giuda, provocando in tal modo lo sdegno del Signore Dio de' padri suoi.
26 The rest of his history, his whole policy, from first to last, is recorded in the Book of the Kings ofJudah and Israel.	26 Tutto il rimanente delle opere e delle azioni sue, le prime, come le ultime, sono descritte nel libro dei re di Giuda e d'Israele.
27 Then Ahaz fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the City, in Jerusalem, though he was nottaken to the tombs of the kings of Israel. His son Hezekiah succeeded him.	27 Acaz si addormentò poi coi padri suoi e lo seppellirono nella città di Gerusalemme, senza però collocarlo nei sepolcri dei re d'Israele. Regnò in sua vece Ezechia suo figlio.
