NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Then Jehoshaphat fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of David; his sonJehoram succeeded him.	1 Giosafat si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto insieme con loro nella Città di Davide. Al suo posto regnò Ioram, suo figlio.
2 Jehoram's brothers, sons of Jehoshaphat, were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariahu, Michael andShephatiah -- al of them sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.	2 Egli aveva dei fratelli, figli di Giosafat: Azaria, Iechièl, Zaccaria, Azariau, Michele e Sefatia: tutti questi erano figli di Giosafat, re d'Israele.
3 Their father had lavishly given them presents of silver, gold and other valuables as wel as fortifiedtowns in Judah; but the throne he bequeathed to Jehoram since he was the first-born.	3 Il padre fece ad essi ricche donazioni in argento, oro, oggetti preziosi, insieme a città fortificate in Giuda; il regno invece lo diede a Ioram, perché egli era il primogenito.
4 Jehoram, having taken control of his father's kingdom and secured his own position, put al hisbrothers to the sword and some officials of Israel too.	4 Ma quando Ioram ebbe preso possesso del regno del padre e si rafforzò, uccise di spada tutti i suoi fratelli e anche alcuni capi d'Israele.
5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for eight years inJerusalem.	5 Quando divenne re, Ioram aveva trentadue anni, regnò in Gerusalemme otto anni.
6 He followed the example of the kings of Israel as the House of Ahab were doing, he having marriedone of Ahab's daughters; and he did what is displeasing to Yahweh.	6 Seguì la condotta dei re d'Israele, come aveva fatto la casa di Acab; egli infatti aveva per moglie una figlia di Acab. Fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore.
7 But Yahweh would not destroy the House of David, because of the covenant which he had made withDavid, promising to provide him and his sons with a lamp for ever.	7 Tuttavia il Signore non volle distruggere la casa di Davide, a causa dell'alleanza che aveva concluso con Davide e in conformità alla promessa fattagli di concedere per sempre una lampada a lui e ai suoi figli.
8 In his time Edom threw off the domination of Judah and set up a king for itself.	8 Durante il suo regno Edom si ribellò al dominio di Giuda e si costituì un re.
9 Jehoram crossed the frontier, and with him his commanders and al his chariots. Under cover of dark,he and his chariot commanders broke through the Edomites surrounding him.	9 Allora Ioram con i suoi capi e con tutti i suoi carri passò la frontiera e, assalendoli di notte, sconfisse gli Edomiti che avevano accerchiato lui e i comandanti dei carri.
10 Thus Edom threw off the domination of Judah and has remained free to the present day. Libnahrevolted against him at the same time, because he had abandoned Yahweh, God of his ancestors.	10 Ma Edom si rese indipendente dal dominio di Giuda fino al giorno d'oggi. In quel tempo anche Libna si ribellò al suo dominio, perché Ioram aveva abbandonato il Signore, Dio dei suoi padri.
11 What is more, he set up high places in the highlands of Judah, leading the citizens of Jerusalem andthe people of Judah into apostasy.	11 Anch'egli poi eresse delle alture sui monti di Giuda, spingendo alla prostituzione gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e seducendo Giuda.
12 Something written by the prophet Elijah then came into his hands. It said, 'Yahweh, God of yourancestor David, says this, "Since you have not fol owed the example of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa kingof Judah,	12 Ma gli pervenne uno scritto da parte del profeta Elia che diceva: "Così parla il Signore, Dio di Davide, tuo padre: "Poiché non hai seguito la condotta di Giosafat, tuo padre, né la condotta di Asa, re di Giuda,
13 but have fol owed the example of the kings of Israel and have led Judah and the citizens ofJerusalem into apostasy, just as the House of Ahab has led Israel into apostasy, and have even murdered yourbrothers, your own family, who were better men than you,	13 ma hai seguito piuttosto la condotta dei re d'Israele e hai indotto alla prostituzione Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, come ha fatto la casa di Acab, inoltre hai ucciso i tuoi fratelli, quelli della famiglia di tuo padre, che erano migliori di te,
14 Yahweh is going to afflict your people, your sons, your wives and al your property with a greatcalamity,	14 ecco che il Signore sta per colpire con un grande disastro il tuo popolo, i tuoi figli, le tue mogli e tutto ciò che ti appartiene.
15 and you yourself with a severe disease affecting your bowels, as a result of which disease,continuing day after day, you wil suffer protrusion of your bowels." '	15 Quanto a te, sarai colpito da gravi malattie, una malattia intestinale tale che, per essa, le tue viscere ti usciranno fuori in due giorni".
16 Yahweh then roused the hostility of the Philistines and of the Arabs living near the Cushites againstJehoram.	16 Il Signore eccitò contro Ioram l'ostilità dei Filistei e degli Arabi che abitano a fianco degli Etiopi.
17 They invaded Judah, forcing their way into it and carrying off all the property to be found in the king'spalace, as wel as his sons and his wives, so that he was left no sons at al except his youngest son Jehoahaz.	17 Questi marciarono contro Giuda e, dopo averlo invaso, catturarono tutti i beni che si trovavano nella casa reale, compresi i figli e le mogli del re. Non gli rimase più alcun figlio ad eccezione di Acazia, il più piccolo.
18 And after al this, Yahweh afflicted him with an incurable disease of the bowels;	18 Dopo tutto ciò il Signore lo colpì con una malattia incurabile agli intestini.
19 in due time, after about two years, his bowels protruded as a result of his disease and he died inacute pain. His people did not make a funeral pyre for him, as they had for his ancestors.	19 Andò avanti così per due anni; alla fine del secondo anno gli uscirono fuori le viscere per effetto della malattia e morì in mezzo ad atroci sofferenze. Il suo popolo non gli fece un rogo, come si era fatto per i suoi padri.
20 He was thirty-two years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for eight years in Jerusalem.He passed away unlamented and was buried in the City of David, though not in the tombs of the kings.	20 Quando divenne re, aveva trentadue anni; regnò in Gerusalemme per otto anni; se ne andò senza lasciare rimpianto e fu sepolto nella Città di Davide, ma non nei sepolcri dei re.
