1 Then Jehoshaphat fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of David; his sonJehoram succeeded him.	1 - Josafat si addormentò coi suoi padri e fu con essi sepolto nella città di Davide. Gli succedette sul trono il figlio Joram;
2 Jehoram's brothers, sons of Jehoshaphat, were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariahu, Michael andShephatiah -- al of them sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.	2 egli ebbe per fratelli i figli di Josafat: Azaria, Jaiel, Zaccaria, Azaria, Micael e Safatia, figli tutti di Josafat, re di Giuda.
3 Their father had lavishly given them presents of silver, gold and other valuables as wel as fortifiedtowns in Judah; but the throne he bequeathed to Jehoram since he was the first-born.	3 Ad essi il padre aveva dato molti regali in argento, in oro e in rendite sulle città fortificate di Giuda; ma il regno lo aveva dato a Joram, perchè suo primogenito.
4 Jehoram, having taken control of his father's kingdom and secured his own position, put al hisbrothers to the sword and some officials of Israel too.	4 Joram prese possesso del regno del padre suo e, consolidatosi, fece morire di spada tutti i fratelli e alcuni dei principi d'Israele.
5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for eight years inJerusalem.	5 Joram aveva trentadue anni quando divenne re, e ne regnò in Gerusalemme otto.
6 He followed the example of the kings of Israel as the House of Ahab were doing, he having marriedone of Ahab's daughters; and he did what is displeasing to Yahweh.	6 Camminò nelle vie dei re d'Israele, come aveva fatto la casa di Acab, poichè aveva per moglie una figlia di Acab e fece ciò che è male al cospetto del Signore.
7 But Yahweh would not destroy the House of David, because of the covenant which he had made withDavid, promising to provide him and his sons with a lamp for ever.	7 Ciò non pertanto il Signore non volle distruggere la casa di Davide a cagione dell'alleanza che aveva contratta con lui e della promessa fattagli di dare sempre una lampada a lui e ai suoi figli.
8 In his time Edom threw off the domination of Judah and set up a king for itself.	8 In quel tempo Edom si ribellò per sottrarsi al dominio di Giuda e si creò un re.
9 Jehoram crossed the frontier, and with him his commanders and al his chariots. Under cover of dark,he and his chariot commanders broke through the Edomites surrounding him.	9 Joram perciò partì coi suoi capi e con tutta la cavalleria che aveva con sè e, levatosi di notte, sconfisse gli Idumei che lo avevano circondato e con essi tutti i loro capitani della cavalleria.
10 Thus Edom threw off the domination of Judah and has remained free to the present day. Libnahrevolted against him at the same time, because he had abandoned Yahweh, God of his ancestors.	10 Tuttavia Edom si ribellò per sottrarsi al dominio di Giuda, fino ad oggi. Anche Lobna si sottrasse in quel tempo all'autorità di Joram, perchè questi aveva abbandonato il Signore Dio de' padri suoi;
11 What is more, he set up high places in the highlands of Judah, leading the citizens of Jerusalem andthe people of Judah into apostasy.	11 inoltre aveva fabbricato luoghi eccelsi nelle città di Giuda e indotto gli abitanti di Gerusalemme alla idolatria e Giuda alla prevaricazione.
12 Something written by the prophet Elijah then came into his hands. It said, 'Yahweh, God of yourancestor David, says this, "Since you have not fol owed the example of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa kingof Judah,	12 Gli venne poi recata una lettera del profeta Elia concepita in questi termini: «Il Signore di Davide padre tuo dice queste cose: - Perchè tu non hai battuto le vie del padre tuo e quelle di Asa, re di Giuda,
13 but have fol owed the example of the kings of Israel and have led Judah and the citizens ofJerusalem into apostasy, just as the House of Ahab has led Israel into apostasy, and have even murdered yourbrothers, your own family, who were better men than you,	13 ma ti sei messo sulla via dei re d'Israele e hai trascinato all'idolatria Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, imitando le fornicazioni della casa di Acab e hai inoltre massacrato i fratelli tuoi, cioè la casa del padre tuo, che eran migliori di te,
14 Yahweh is going to afflict your people, your sons, your wives and al your property with a greatcalamity,	14 il Signore colpirà con un grande castigo te, il tuo popolo, i figli tuoi, le mogli tue, e tutto il tuo avere.
15 and you yourself with a severe disease affecting your bowels, as a result of which disease,continuing day after day, you wil suffer protrusion of your bowels." '	15 Tu poi sarai colto da una grave malattia di visceri, fino a che i tuoi intestini a poco a poco, un po' per giorno, non usciranno da te -».
16 Yahweh then roused the hostility of the Philistines and of the Arabs living near the Cushites againstJehoram.	16 Il Signore suscitò quindi contro Joram lo spirito dei Filistei e degli Arabi, confinanti cogli Etiopi,
17 They invaded Judah, forcing their way into it and carrying off all the property to be found in the king'spalace, as wel as his sons and his wives, so that he was left no sons at al except his youngest son Jehoahaz.	17 i quali salirono contro la terra di Giuda, la devastarono e saccheggiarono tutta la sostanza che fu trovata nel palazzo del re, insieme coi figli di lui e colle mogli, cosicchè non gli rimase altro figliuolo che Joacaz, ch'era il più piccolo.
18 And after al this, Yahweh afflicted him with an incurable disease of the bowels;	18 Di più lo colpì il Signore con una malattia incurabile degli intestini,
19 in due time, after about two years, his bowels protruded as a result of his disease and he died inacute pain. His people did not make a funeral pyre for him, as they had for his ancestors.	19 la quale di giorno in giorno, per lo spazio di due anni, lo venne consumando in modo che per la lunga malattia gli intestini gli uscivano fuori; finì così per lasciarvi la vita. Morì di quella crudele infermità e il popolo non fece a lui, come aveva fatto ai suoi maggiori, le esequie, bruciandogli profumi.
20 He was thirty-two years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for eight years in Jerusalem.He passed away unlamented and was buried in the City of David, though not in the tombs of the kings.	20 Aveva trentadue anni quando cominciò a regnare; e regnò otto anni in Gerusalemme. Non operò bene e fu sepolto nella città di Davide, ma non nel sepolcro dei re.
