1 When Rehoboam had consolidated the kingdom and become strong, he, and al Israel with him,abandoned the Law of Yahweh;	1 Quando Roboamo fu bene stabilito e consolidato nel regno, abbandonò con tutto Israele la legge del Signore.
2 and thus it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt marched onJerusalem, because they had been unfaithful to Yahweh,	2 E l'anno quinto del regno di Roboamo, siccome essi avevano peccato contro il Signore, Sesac re dell'Egitto salì contro Gerusalemme
3 with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand cavalry and countless hordes of Libyans, Sukkiimand Cushites who came from Egypt with him.	3 con mille duecento carri e sessanta mila cavalieri e con turba senza numero venuta con lui dall'Egitto: Libii, Trogloditi, Etiopi.
4 They captured the fortified towns of Judah and reached Jerusalem.	4 Prese le città più forti di Giuda e venne fino a Gerusalemme.
5 The prophet Shemaiah then came to Rehoboam and the generals of Judah, who had fal en back onJerusalem before Shishak's advance, and said to them, 'Yahweh says this, "You have abandoned me and so Ihave abandoned you into Shishak's clutches." 6 At this, the Israelite generals and the king humbled themselves and said, 'Yahweh is just!'	6 I principi d'Israele e il re dissero costernati: « Il Signore è giusto ».
7 When Yahweh saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah asfol ows, 'They have humbled themselves. I shal not destroy them but shall grant them some degree ofdeliverance. My retribution wil not be poured out on Jerusalem by means of Shishak;	7 Quando il Signore ebbe visto che si erano umiliati, la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Semeia in questi termini: « Siccome si sono umiliati, non li disperderò, darò loro un po' di aiuto, e il mio furore non cadrà sopra Gerusalemme per mezzo di Sesac.
8 they are nonetheless to become his slaves, so that they may learn the difference between serving meand serving kings of other countries.'	8 Però lo serviranno, affinchè conoscano la differenza tra il servire me e il servire i re della terra ».
9 So Shishak king of Egypt advanced on Jerusalem and carried off the treasures of the Temple and thetreasures of the royal palace. He took everything away, including the golden shields which Solomon had made.	9 Sesac re d'Egitto si ritirò adunque da Gerusalemme; ma portò via i tesori della casa del Signore e della casa reale: prese ogni cosa, anche gli scudi d'oro fatti da Salomone.
10 To replace these, King Rehoboam made bronze shields, entrusting them to the commanders of theguard who guarded the king's palace gate.	10 In luogo di questi scudi d'oro il re ne fece altri di rame e li diede ai capi delle guardie che custodivano il vestibolo del palazzo.
11 Whenever the king went to the Temple of Yahweh, the guards would come out carrying them,returning them to the guardroom afterwards.	11 E quando il re entrava nella casa del Signore, gli scudieri andavano a prenderli, poi li riportavano nel loro arsenale.
12 Because King Rehoboam had humbled himself, the retribution of Yahweh turned away from him soas not to destroy him completely; and there were also some good features in Judah.	12 Così, perchè si umiliarono, si distolse da loro l'ira del Signore e non furono sterminati, perchè in Giuda c'erano ancora delle opere buone.
13 Thus he was able to strengthen his position in Jerusalem and continue as king; for Rehoboam wasforty-one years old when he came to the throne and remained king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the citychosen by Yahweh from al the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah theAmmonite.	13 Roboamo adunque si fortificò in Gerusalemme e regnò. Egli aveva quarant'un anno quan­do incominciò a regnare, e regnò diciassette anni in Gerusalemme, città dal Signore eletta fra tutte le tribù d'Israele per stabilirvi il suo nome. La sua madre si chiamava Naama, l'Ammanita.
14 But he did wrong in not setting his heart on seeking Yahweh.	14 Egli fece il male e non dispose il suo cuore a cercare il Si­gnore.
15 The history of Rehoboam, from first to last, is this not all written down in the records of Shemaiah theprophet and of Iddo the seer? Warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam went on throughout the period.	15 Le gesta di Roboamo, dalle prime alle ultime, sono scritte nei libri di Semeia profeta e di Addo il veggente e con esattezza esposte. 16 When Rehoboam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Abijahsucceeded him.	16 Roboamo si addormentò coi suoi padri, fu sepolto nella città di David, e gli successe nel regno il suo figlio Abia.
