2 Chronicles 12

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 When Rehoboam had consolidated the kingdom and become strong, he, and al Israel with him,abandoned the Law of Yahweh;	1 Alors que sa royauté s'était établie et affermie, Roboam abandonna la Loi de Yahvé, et toutIsraël avec lui.
2 and thus it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt marched onJerusalem, because they had been unfaithful to Yahweh,	2 La cinquième année du règne de Roboam, le roi d'Egypte, Sheshonq, marcha contreJérusalem, car elle avait été infidèle à Yahvé.
3 with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand cavalry and countless hordes of Libyans, Sukkiimand Cushites who came from Egypt with him.	3 Avec 1.200 chars, 60.000 chevaux et une innombrable armée de Libyens, de Sukkiens et deKushites, qui vint avec lui d'Egypte,
4 They captured the fortified towns of Judah and reached Jerusalem.	4 il prit les villes fortifiées de Juda et atteignit Jérusalem.
5 The prophet Shemaiah then came to Rehoboam and the generals of Judah, who had fal en back onJerusalem before Shishak's advance, and said to them, 'Yahweh says this, "You have abandoned me and so Ihave abandoned you into Shishak's clutches." '	5 Shemaya, le prophète, vint trouver Roboam et les officiers judéens qui, devant Sheshonq,s'étaient regroupés près de Jérusalem, et il leur dit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé. Vous m'avez abandonné, aussi vous ai-jeabandonnés moi-même aux mains de Sheshonq."
6 At this, the Israelite generals and the king humbled themselves and said, 'Yahweh is just!'	6 Alors les officiers israélites et le roi s'humilièrent et dirent: "Yahvé est juste."
7 When Yahweh saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah asfol ows, 'They have humbled themselves. I shal not destroy them but shall grant them some degree ofdeliverance. My retribution wil not be poured out on Jerusalem by means of Shishak;	7 Quant Yahvé vit qu'ils s'humiliaient, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Shemaya en cestermes: "Ils se sont humiliés, je ne les exterminerai pas; sous peu je leur permettrai d'échapper et ce n'est pas parles mains de Sheshonq que ma colère s'abattra sur Jérusalem.
8 they are nonetheless to become his slaves, so that they may learn the difference between serving meand serving kings of other countries.'	8 Mais ils deviendront ses esclaves et ils apprécieront ce que c'est que de me servir et de servirles royaumes des pays!"
9 So Shishak king of Egypt advanced on Jerusalem and carried off the treasures of the Temple and thetreasures of the royal palace. He took everything away, including the golden shields which Solomon had made.	9 Le roi d'Egypte Sheshonq marcha contre Jérusalem. Il se fit livrer les trésors du Temple deYahvé et ceux du palais royal, absolument tout, jusqu'aux boucliers d'or qu'avait faits Salomon;
10 To replace these, King Rehoboam made bronze shields, entrusting them to the commanders of theguard who guarded the king's palace gate.	10 à leur place le roi Roboam fit des boucliers de bronze et les confia aux chefs des gardes quiveillaient à la porte du palais royal:
11 Whenever the king went to the Temple of Yahweh, the guards would come out carrying them,returning them to the guardroom afterwards.	11 chaque fois que le roi allait au Temple de Yahvé, les gardes venaient les prendre, puis ils lesrapportaient à la salle des gardes.
12 Because King Rehoboam had humbled himself, the retribution of Yahweh turned away from him soas not to destroy him completely; and there were also some good features in Judah.	12 Mais parce qu'il s'était humilié, la colère de Yahvé se détourna de lui et ne l'anéantit pascomplètement. Qui plus est, d'heureux événements survinrent en Juda,
13 Thus he was able to strengthen his position in Jerusalem and continue as king; for Rehoboam wasforty-one years old when he came to the throne and remained king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the citychosen by Yahweh from al the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah theAmmonite.	13 le roi Roboam put s'affermir dans Jérusalem et régner. Il avait en effet 41 ans à sonavènement et il régna dix-sept ans à Jérusalem, la ville que Yahvé avait choisie entre toutes les tribus d'Israëlpour y placer son Nom. Sa mère s'appelait Naama, l'Ammonite.
14 But he did wrong in not setting his heart on seeking Yahweh.	14 Il fit le mal, parce qu'il n'avait pas disposé son coeur à rechercher Yahvé.
15 The history of Rehoboam, from first to last, is this not all written down in the records of Shemaiah theprophet and of Iddo the seer? Warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam went on throughout the period.	15 L'histoire de Roboam, du début à la fin, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans l'histoire du prophèteShemaya et du voyant Iddo? Il y eut tout le temps des combats entre Roboam et Jéroboam.
16 When Rehoboam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Abijahsucceeded him.	16 Roboam se coucha avec ses pères et fut enterré dans la Cité de David; son fils Abiyya régnaà sa place.
