1 When Rehoboam had consolidated the kingdom and become strong, he, and al Israel with him,abandoned the Law of Yahweh;	1 - Quando il regno di Roboamo fu ben stabilito e rafforzato, egli unitamente a tutto Israele abbandonò la legge del Signore.
2 and thus it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt marched onJerusalem, because they had been unfaithful to Yahweh,	2 L'anno quinto del regno di Roboamo, Sesac, re dell'Egitto, salì contro Gerusalemme, (poichè essi avevano peccato contro il Signore),
3 with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand cavalry and countless hordes of Libyans, Sukkiimand Cushites who came from Egypt with him.	3 con milleduecento carri e sessantamila cavalieri e con una moltitudine innumerevole di gente venuta con lui dall'Egitto, cioè Libii, Trogloditi ed Etiopi.
4 They captured the fortified towns of Judah and reached Jerusalem.	4 S'impadronì delle città più fortificate in Giuda e arrivò fino a Gerusalemme.
5 The prophet Shemaiah then came to Rehoboam and the generals of Judah, who had fal en back onJerusalem before Shishak's advance, and said to them, 'Yahweh says this, "You have abandoned me and so Ihave abandoned you into Shishak's clutches." '	5 Allora il profeta Semeia si recò da Roboamo e dai principi di Giuda, che, fuggendo dinanzi a Sesac, si erano riuniti in Gerusalemme, e disse loro: «Il Signore parla così: - Voi avete abbandonato me, ed io abbandono voi nelle mani di Sesac -».
6 At this, the Israelite generals and the king humbled themselves and said, 'Yahweh is just!'	6 Sbigottiti i principi di Israele e il re dissero: «Il Signore è giusto».
7 When Yahweh saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah asfol ows, 'They have humbled themselves. I shal not destroy them but shall grant them some degree ofdeliverance. My retribution wil not be poured out on Jerusalem by means of Shishak;	7 Il Signore, vedendo che si erano umiliati, parlò in questi termini a Semeia: «Poichè si sono umiliati, non li disperderò; manderò loro qualche aiuto e la mia collera non si riverserà sopra Gerusalemme per opera di Sesac.
8 they are nonetheless to become his slaves, so that they may learn the difference between serving meand serving kings of other countries.'	8 Gli saranno tuttavia soggetti, perchè sappiano qual differenza vi sia tra la mia servitù e quella dei regni della terra».
9 So Shishak king of Egypt advanced on Jerusalem and carried off the treasures of the Temple and thetreasures of the royal palace. He took everything away, including the golden shields which Solomon had made.	9 Allora Sesac, re dell'Egitto, si allontanò da Gerusalemme, portando seco i tesori della casa del Signore e della casa del re. Prese seco tutto, anche gli scudi d'oro, che aveva fatto fare Salomone.
10 To replace these, King Rehoboam made bronze shields, entrusting them to the commanders of theguard who guarded the king's palace gate.	10 Invece di questi il re fece fare degli scudi di rame e li consegnò ai principi degli scudieri, che custodivano il vestibolo del palazzo.
11 Whenever the king went to the Temple of Yahweh, the guards would come out carrying them,returning them to the guardroom afterwards.	11 Ogni qual volta il re doveva entrare nella casa del Signore venivano gli scudieri a prenderli, e poi di nuovo li riportavano al loro arsenale.
12 Because King Rehoboam had humbled himself, the retribution of Yahweh turned away from him soas not to destroy him completely; and there were also some good features in Judah.	12 Pertanto, essendosi umiliati, si distolse da loro l'ira del Signore, nè furono totalmente dispersi, poichè anche in Giuda erano state trovate opere buone.
13 Thus he was able to strengthen his position in Jerusalem and continue as king; for Rehoboam wasforty-one years old when he came to the throne and remained king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the citychosen by Yahweh from al the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah theAmmonite.	13 Ripreso adunque vigore il re Roboamo, continuò a regnare sopra Gerusalemme. Egli aveva quarantun anno quando salì sul trono, e regnò diciassette anni in Gerusalemme, città scelta dal Signore fra tutte le tribù d'Israele, per glorificarvi il suo nome. Il nome della madre di lui fu Naama Ammanita.
14 But he did wrong in not setting his heart on seeking Yahweh.	14 Egli però fece del male e non dispose il suo cuore a cercare il Signore.
15 The history of Rehoboam, from first to last, is this not all written down in the records of Shemaiah theprophet and of Iddo the seer? Warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam went on throughout the period.	15 Le opere di Roboamo, tanto le prime che le ultime, sono descritte nel libro del profeta Semeia, e del veggente Addo, e vi sono esposte con esattezza. In tutto il tempo Roboamo e Geroboamo furono in guerra tra loro.
16 When Rehoboam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Abijahsucceeded him.	16 Poi s'addormentò Roboamo coi padri suoi, e venne sepolto nella città di Davide; e regnò in sua vece Abia, figliuol suo.
