1 When Rehoboam had consolidated the kingdom and become strong, he, and al Israel with him,abandoned the Law of Yahweh;	1 Ma quando Roboamo fu bene stabilito, e fortificato nel regno, egli, e tutto Israele dietro a lui abbandonò la legge del Signore.
2 and thus it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt marched onJerusalem, because they had been unfaithful to Yahweh,	2 E l'anno quinto del regno di Roboamo, Sesac re dell'Egitto si mosse contro Gerusalemme (perchè quegli avean peccato contro il Signore)
3 with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand cavalry and countless hordes of Libyans, Sukkiimand Cushites who came from Egypt with him.	3 Con mille dugento cocchi, e sessanta mila cavalieri: ed era senza numero l'altra turba venuta con lui dall'Egitto, e gente della Libia, e Trogloditi, ed Etiopi.
4 They captured the fortified towns of Judah and reached Jerusalem.	4 Ed espugnò le città più forti di Giuda, e arrivò sino a Gerusalemme.
5 The prophet Shemaiah then came to Rehoboam and the generals of Judah, who had fal en back onJerusalem before Shishak's advance, and said to them, 'Yahweh says this, "You have abandoned me and so Ihave abandoned you into Shishak's clutches." '	5 Or Seraeia profeta si presentò alre Roboamo, e ai principi di Giuda raunati in Gerusalemme per timore di Sesac, e disse loro: Queste cose dice il Signore: Voi avete abbandonato me, e io no abbandonato voi in potere di Sesac.
6 At this, the Israelite generals and the king humbled themselves and said, 'Yahweh is just!'	6 E sbigottiti i principi d'Israele, e il re, dissero: Giusto è il Signore.
7 When Yahweh saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah asfol ows, 'They have humbled themselves. I shal not destroy them but shall grant them some degree ofdeliverance. My retribution wil not be poured out on Jerusalem by means of Shishak;	7 Ma il Signore veggendo come erano umiliati, parlò a Semeia, e disse: Perchè ei si sono umiliati, io non gli spergerò, e darò loro un pocolino di aiuto, e il mio furore non gronderà sopra Gerusalemme per mano di Sesac.
8 they are nonetheless to become his slaves, so that they may learn the difference between serving meand serving kings of other countries.'	8 Ma saranno soggetti a lui, affinchè conoscano la differenza tral servire a me, e'l servire ai re della terra.
9 So Shishak king of Egypt advanced on Jerusalem and carried off the treasures of the Temple and thetreasures of the royal palace. He took everything away, including the golden shields which Solomon had made.	9 Cosi Sesac re dell'Egitto si ritirò da Gerusalemme, portando via i tesori della casa del Signore, e della casa reale, e gli scudi d'oro fatti da Salomone,
10 To replace these, King Rehoboam made bronze shields, entrusting them to the commanders of theguard who guarded the king's palace gate.	10 Invece de' quali il re ne fece fare altri di bronzo, dandogli ai capitani delle guardie, che custodivano l'atrio del palazzo.
11 Whenever the king went to the Temple of Yahweh, the guards would come out carrying them,returning them to the guardroom afterwards.	11 E quando il re entrava nella casa del Signore, quei che portavan gli scudi, andavano a prendergli, e poi li riportavano all'arsenale.
12 Because King Rehoboam had humbled himself, the retribution of Yahweh turned away from him soas not to destroy him completely; and there were also some good features in Judah.	12 Ma perchè ei si umiliarono, si calmò verso di loro l'ira del Signore, e non furono sterminati affatto, perchè anche in Giuda si trovarono delle buone opere.
13 Thus he was able to strengthen his position in Jerusalem and continue as king; for Rehoboam wasforty-one years old when he came to the throne and remained king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the citychosen by Yahweh from al the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah theAmmonite.	13 Roboamo adunque riprese vigore, e regnò in Gerusalemme: or egli avea quarant'un anno quando principiò a regnare, e diciassette anni regnò in Gerusalemme città eletta dal Signore tra tutte le tribù d'Israele per istabilirvi il culto del nome suo. Sua madre si chiamò Naama, ed era Ammonita.
14 But he did wrong in not setting his heart on seeking Yahweh.	14 Egli però fece il male, e non rivolse il cuor suo a cercare il Signore.
15 The history of Rehoboam, from first to last, is this not all written down in the records of Shemaiah theprophet and of Iddo the seer? Warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam went on throughout the period.	15 Ma le geste di Roboam, le prime, e le ultime sono scritte nel libro di Semeia profeta, e di Addo Profeta, ed esposte con esattezza. E Roboamo, e Geroboam ebbero tra loro continua guerra.
16 When Rehoboam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Abijahsucceeded him.	16 E Roboamo si addormentò co' padri suoi, e fu sepolto nella città di David. E gli succedette nel regno Abia suo figliuolo.
