NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Rehoboam then went to Shechem, al Israel having come to Shechem to proclaim him king.	1 E ROBOAMO andò in Sichem; perciocchè tutto Israele era ventuo in Sichem, per istabilirlo re.
2 As soon as Jeroboam son of Nebat heard the news -- he was in Egypt, where he had taken refugefrom King Solomon -- he returned from Egypt.	2 E quando Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nebat, ch’era in Egitto, ove era fuggito d’innanzi al re Salomone, ebbe ciò inteso, egli se ne ritornò di Egitto;
3 They now sent for him, so Jeroboam and al Israel came and spoke as fol ows to Rehoboam,	3 perciocchè gl’Israeliti l’aveano mandato a chiamare. Geroboamo adunque, e tutto Israele, vennero, e parlarono a Roboamo, dicendo:
4 'Your father laid a cruel yoke on us; if you wil lighten your father's cruel slavery, that heavy yoke whichhe imposed on us, we are wil ing to serve you.'	4 Tuo padre ci ha posto addosso un grave giogo; ma tu, alleviaci ora dalla dura servitù di tuo padre, e dal suo grave giogo, il quale egli ci ha posto addosso, e noi ti saremo soggetti.
5 He said to them, 'Come back to me in three days' time.' And the people went away.	5 Ed egli disse loro: Di qui a tre giorni ritornate a me. E il popolo se ne andò.
6 King Rehoboam then consulted the elders, who had been in attendance on his father Solomon whilehe was alive, and said, 'How do you advise me to answer this people?'	6 E il re Roboamo si consigliò co’ vecchi, ch’erano stati ministri di Salomone, suo padre, mentre era in vita, dicendo: Come consigliate voi che si risponda a questo popolo?
7 They replied, 'If you are fair to these people, pleasant to them and give them a fair reply, they wilremain your servants for ever.'	7 Ed essi gli risposero, dicendo: Se tu ti mostri benigno inverso questo popolo, e gli compiaci, e gli dài buone parole, essi ti saranno soggetti in perpetuo.
8 But he rejected the advice given him by the elders and consulted the young men in attendance onhim, who had grown up with him.	8 Ma egli, lasciato il consiglio che i vecchi gli aveano dato, si consigliò co’ giovani ch’erano stati allevati con lui, ed erano suoi ministri ordinari;
9 He said, 'How do you advise us to answer these people who have been saying, "Lighten the yokewhich your father imposed on us"?'	9 e disse loro: Che consigliate voi che rispondiamo a questo popolo, il qual m’ha parlato, dicendo: Alleviaci dal giogo che tuo padre ha posto sopra noi?
10 The young men who had grown up with him replied, 'This is the way to answer the people who havebeen saying, "Your father made our yoke heavy, you must lighten it for us!" This is the right thing to say to them,"My little finger is thicker than my father's loins!	10 Ed i giovani ch’erano stati allevati con lui, gli risposero, dicendo: Di’ così a questo popolo che t’ha parlato, dicendo: Tuo padre ci ha posto addosso un grave giogo; ma tu, alleviacene; di’ loro così: Il mio piccol dito è più grosso che i lombi di mio padre.
11 Although my father laid a heavy yoke on you, I shal make it heavier stil ! My father controlled youwith the whip, but I shal apply a spiked lash!" '	11 Ora dunque, mio padre vi ha caricato addosso un grave giogo, ma io lo farò vie più grave; mio padre vi ha gastigati con isferze, ma io vi gastigherò con flagelli pungenti
12 On the third day, Jeroboam and al the people came to Rehoboam in obedience to the king'sinstructions, 'Come back to me in three days' time.'	12 E il terzo giorno appresso, Geroboamo e tutto il popolo, vennero a Roboamo, secondo che il re avea parlato, dicendo; Ritornate a me di qui a tre giorni.
13 And the king gave them a harsh answer. King Rehoboam, rejecting the advice of the elders,	13 E il re Roboamo rispose loro aspramente, e lasciò il consiglio de’ vecchi.
14 spoke to them as the young men had recommended, 'My father made your yoke heavy, but I shaladd to it. My father control ed you with the whip, but I shal apply a spiked lash.'	14 E parlò loro secondo il consiglio de’ giovani, dicendo: Mio padre vi ha posto addosso un grave giogo, ma io lo farò vie più grave; mio padre vi ha castigati con isferze, ma io vi castigherò con flagelli pungenti.
15 Thus the king refused to listen to the people, and this was brought about by God, so that Yahwehmight fulfil the promise which he had made through Ahijah of Shiloh to Jeroboam son of Nebat.	15 Il re adunque non acconsentì al popolo; perciocchè questo era cagionato dal Signore Iddio, per adempier la sua parola, la quale egli avea pronunziata, per Ahia Silonita, a Geroboamo, figliuolo di Nebat.
16 When al Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king thus: Whatshare have we in David? -no heritage in the son of Jesse! Each of you, to your tents, Israel! Now look to yourown house, David! So Israel went home again.	16 E quando tutto il popolo d’Israele ebbe veduto che il re non avea loro acconsentito, rispose al re, dicendo: Qual parte abbiamo noi in Davide? noi non abbiamo alcuna ragione di eredità nel figliuolo d’Isai; o Israele, vadasene ciascuno alle sue stanze; o Davide, provvedi ora alla tua casa. Così tutto Israele se ne andò alle sue stanze.
17 Rehoboam, however, reigned over those Israelites who lived in the towns of Judah.	17 Ma quant’è a’ figliuoli d’Israele che abitavano nelle città di Giuda, Roboamo regnò sopra loro.
18 When King Rehoboam sent Adoram who was in charge of forced labour, the Israelites stoned him todeath, while King Rehoboam managed to mount his chariot and escape to Jerusalem.	18 E il re Roboamo mandò a’ figliuoli d’Israele Hadoram, ch’era sopra i tributi; ma essi lo lapidarono, onde egli morì. Allora il re Roboamo salì prestamente sopra un carro, e se ne fuggì in Gerusalemme.
19 And Israel has remained in rebel ion against the House of David from that day to this.	19 Così Israele si ribellò dalla casa di Davide, ed è rimasto così fino a questo giorno
