2 Chronicles 10

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 Rehoboam then went to Shechem, al Israel having come to Shechem to proclaim him king.	1 Roboam se rendit à Sichem, car c’est à Sichem que tout Israël était venu pour le faire roi.
2 As soon as Jeroboam son of Nebat heard the news -- he was in Egypt, where he had taken refugefrom King Solomon -- he returned from Egypt.	2 Lorsque Jéroboam fils de Nabat l’apprit, il rentra d’Égypte où il avait fui pour échapper au roi Salomon.
3 They now sent for him, so Jeroboam and al Israel came and spoke as fol ows to Rehoboam,	3 On l’avait envoyé chercher, et Jéroboam arriva en même temps que tout Israël. Ils dirent ceci à Roboam:
4 'Your father laid a cruel yoke on us; if you wil lighten your father's cruel slavery, that heavy yoke whichhe imposed on us, we are wil ing to serve you.'	4 “Ton père nous a imposé un joug pesant. Si tu allèges ces travaux forcés, ce joug pesant que ton père nous a fait porter, nous te servirons.”
5 He said to them, 'Come back to me in three days' time.' And the people went away.	5 Il leur répondit: “Attendez trois jours, puis revenez me voir.” Et le peuple s’en alla.
6 King Rehoboam then consulted the elders, who had been in attendance on his father Solomon whilehe was alive, and said, 'How do you advise me to answer this people?'	6 Le roi Roboam consulta les anciens qui avaient été les conseillers de son père Salomon quand il vivait. Il leur dit: “Que me conseillez-vous de répondre à ce peuple?”
7 They replied, 'If you are fair to these people, pleasant to them and give them a fair reply, they wilremain your servants for ever.'	7 Ils lui répondirent: “Si aujourd’hui tu te fais leur serviteur, si tu te montres conciliant dans ta réponse, ils seront pour toujours à ton service.”
8 But he rejected the advice given him by the elders and consulted the young men in attendance onhim, who had grown up with him.	8 Mais Roboam n’écouta pas le conseil que les anciens lui avaient donné et il se tourna vers les jeunes gens qui avaient grandi avec lui et qui se tenaient près de lui.
9 He said, 'How do you advise us to answer these people who have been saying, "Lighten the yokewhich your father imposed on us"?'	9 Il leur demanda: “Que me conseillez-vous de répondre à ce peuple? Vous savez qu’ils me disent: rends moins pénible le joug que ton père nous a fait porter.”
10 The young men who had grown up with him replied, 'This is the way to answer the people who havebeen saying, "Your father made our yoke heavy, you must lighten it for us!" This is the right thing to say to them,"My little finger is thicker than my father's loins!	10 Les jeunes gens lui dirent: “Tu dois répondre au peuple qui te dit: Ton père nous a fait porter un joug pesant, allège notre fardeau. Tu leur diras ceci: Mon petit doigt est plus gros que les reins de mon père.
11 Although my father laid a heavy yoke on you, I shal make it heavier stil ! My father controlled youwith the whip, but I shal apply a spiked lash!" '	11 Mon père vous a fait porter un joug pesant? Avec moi ce sera pire. Mon père vous a corrigés avec des lanières de cuir? Avec moi, les fouets auront des pointes de fer.”
12 On the third day, Jeroboam and al the people came to Rehoboam in obedience to the king'sinstructions, 'Come back to me in three days' time.'	12 Jéroboam et tout le peuple revinrent le troisième jour auprès de Roboam, puisque le roi leur avait dit: Dans trois jours vous reviendrez.
13 And the king gave them a harsh answer. King Rehoboam, rejecting the advice of the elders,	13 Le roi leur parla sèchement, il ne tint pas compte du conseil des anciens.
14 spoke to them as the young men had recommended, 'My father made your yoke heavy, but I shaladd to it. My father control ed you with the whip, but I shal apply a spiked lash.'	14 Roboam suivit le conseil des jeunes gens et leur dit: “Si mon père a rendu votre joug pesant, avec moi ce sera pire. Si mon père vous a corrigés avec des lanières de cuir, avec moi les fouets auront des pointes de fer.”
15 Thus the king refused to listen to the people, and this was brought about by God, so that Yahwehmight fulfil the promise which he had made through Ahijah of Shiloh to Jeroboam son of Nebat.	15 Le roi n’avait donc pas écouté le peuple: c’était une intervention de Dieu pour que Yahvé réalise la parole qu’il avait dite à Jéroboam fils de Nabat par la bouche d’Ahiya de Silo.
16 When al Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king thus: Whatshare have we in David? -no heritage in the son of Jesse! Each of you, to your tents, Israel! Now look to yourown house, David! So Israel went home again.	16 Lorsque tout Israël vit que le roi ne l’écoutait pas, le peuple répliqua au roi: “Quelle part avons-nous avec David? Nous n’avons rien à hériter du fils de Jessé. Allez, Israël! À tes tentes! Et maintenant David, assure toi-même la nourriture de ta maison!” Et tout Israël regagna ses foyers.
17 Rehoboam, however, reigned over those Israelites who lived in the towns of Judah.	17 Cependant Roboam régna sur les Israélites qui habitaient les villes de Juda.
18 When King Rehoboam sent Adoram who was in charge of forced labour, the Israelites stoned him todeath, while King Rehoboam managed to mount his chariot and escape to Jerusalem.	18 Le roi Roboam envoya Adoram, le chef de la corvée, mais les Israélites le reçurent à coups de pierres et il mourut. Le roi Roboam fut obligé de monter sur son char pour s’enfuir à Jérusalem.
19 And Israel has remained in rebel ion against the House of David from that day to this.	19 Et depuis ce jour jusqu’à maintenant, Israël a renié la maison de David.
