1 The prophet Elisha summoned a member of the prophetic brotherhood to him, 'Hitch up your clothes,take this flask of oil, and go to Ramoth in Gilead.	1 Il profeta Eliseo chiamò uno dei figli dei profeti e gli disse: «Cingiti i fianchi, prendi in mano questo vasetto d’olio e va’ a Ramot di Gàlaad.
2 When you arrive there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi. Then, when you find him, telhim to get up and leave his companions, and take him into an inner room.	2 Appena giunto là, cerca Ieu, figlio di Giòsafat, figlio di Nimsì. Entrato in casa, lo farai alzare tra i suoi fratelli e lo condurrai in una camera interna.
3 Take the flask of oil then and pour it over his head, and say, "Yahweh says this: I have anointed youking of Israel." Then open the door and flee as fast as you can.'	3 Prenderai il vasetto dell’olio e lo verserai sulla sua testa, dicendo: “Così dice il Signore: Ti ungo re su Israele”. Poi aprirai la porta e fuggirai e non aspetterai».
4 The young man left for Ramoth in Gilead	4 Il giovane, il servo del profeta, andò a Ramot di Gàlaad.
5 and when he arrived, found the senior officers of the army sitting together. 'I have a message for you,commander,' he said. 'For which of us?' asked Jehu. 'For you, commander,' he answered.	5 Appena giunto, trovò i capi dell’esercito seduti insieme. Egli disse: «Ho una parola per te, comandante». Ieu disse: «Per chi fra tutti noi?». Ed egli rispose: «Per te, comandante».
6 Jehu then got up and went into the house. And the young man poured the oil on his head, saying,'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I have anointed you king of Yahweh's people, of Israel.	6 Si alzò ed entrò in casa, e quello gli versò l’olio sulla testa dicendogli: «Così dice il Signore, Dio d’Israele: “Ti ungo re sul popolo del Signore, su Israele.
7 You wil strike down the family of Ahab your master, and I shal avenge the blood of my servants theprophets and al of Yahweh's servants, on Jezebel	7 Tu colpirai la casa di Acab, tuo signore; io vendicherò il sangue dei miei servi, i profeti, e il sangue di tutti i servi del Signore, sparso dalla mano di Gezabele.
8 and on the whole family of Ahab. I shal destroy every manjack of Ahab's family, fettered or free in Israel.	8 Tutta la casa di Acab perirà; io eliminerò ad Acab ogni maschio, schiavo o libero in Israele.
9 I shal make the House of Ahab like the House of Jeroboam son of Nebat and of Baasha son of Ahijah.	9 Renderò la casa di Acab come la casa di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, e come la casa di Baasà, figlio di Achia.
10 As for Jezebel, the dogs wil eat her in the field of Jezreel; no one wil bury her." ' With this, he openedthe door and made his escape.	10 I cani divoreranno Gezabele nel campo di Izreèl; nessuno la seppellirà”». Quindi aprì la porta e fuggì.
11 Jehu came out to his master's officers. 'Is al wel ?' they asked him. 'Why did this madman come toyou?' 'You know the fel ow and how he talks,' he answered.	11 Quando Ieu uscì per raggiungere gli ufficiali del suo signore, gli domandarono: «Va tutto bene? Perché questo pazzo è venuto da te?». Egli disse loro: «Voi conoscete l’uomo e le sue chiacchiere».
12 'Evasion!' they cried, 'Come on, tell us.' He replied, 'He said this and that to me. He said, "Yahweh saysthis: I have anointed you king of Israel." '	12 Gli dissero: «Non è vero! Su, raccontaci!». Egli disse: «Mi ha parlato così e così, affermando: “Così dice il Signore: Ti ungo re su Israele”».
13 Whereupon they all took their cloaks and spread them under him on the bare steps; they sounded thetrumpet and shouted, 'Jehu is king!'	13 Allora si affrettarono e presero ciascuno il proprio mantello e lo stesero sui gradini sotto di lui, suonarono il corno e gridarono: «Ieu è re».
14 Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi plotted against Jehoram. (At the time, Jehoram, with al Israel,was holding Ramoth in Gilead against an attack by Hazael king of Aram,	14 Ieu, figlio di Giòsafat, figlio di Nimsì, congiurò contro Ioram. Ora Ioram aveva difeso con tutto Israele Ramot di Gàlaad di fronte a Cazaèl, re di Aram,
15 but King Jehoram had gone back to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which he had received fromthe Aramaeans while he was fighting against Hazael king of Aram.) 'If you agree,' Jehu said, 'let no one leavethe town to go and take the news to Jezreel.'	15 poi il re Ioram era tornato a curarsi a Izreèl le ferite ricevute dagli Aramei nella guerra contro Cazaèl, re di Aram. 16 Jehu then mounted his chariot and left for Jezreel; Jehoram had taken to his bed there, and Ahaziahking of Judah had gone down to visit him.	16 Ieu salì su un carro e partì per Izreèl, perché là giaceva malato Ioram e Acazia, re di Giuda, era sceso a visitarlo.
17 The lookout posted on the tower of Jezreel saw Jehu's troop approaching. 'I can see a body of men,'he shouted. Jehoram gave the order: 'Have a horseman sent to meet them and ask, "Is al wel ?" '	17 La sentinella che stava sulla torre di Izreèl vide la schiera di Ieu che avanzava e disse: «Vedo una schiera». Ioram disse: «Prendi un cavaliere e mandalo loro incontro per domandare: “Tutto bene?”».
18 The horseman went to meet Jehu and said, 'The king says, "Is al wel ?" ' 'What has it to do with youwhether all is well?' Jehu replied. 'Fal in behind me.' The lookout reported, 'The messenger has reached themand is not coming back.'	18 Uno a cavallo andò loro incontro e disse: «Così dice il re: “Tutto bene?”». Ieu disse: «Che importa a te come vada? Passa dietro e seguimi». La sentinella riferì: «Il messaggero è arrivato da quelli, ma non torna indietro».
19 The king sent a second horseman who reached them and said, 'The king says, "Is al wel ?" ' 'What hasit to do with you whether al is wel ?' Jehu replied. 'Fall in behind me.'	19 Il re mandò un altro cavaliere che, giunto da quelli, disse: «Il re domanda: “Tutto bene?”». Ma Ieu disse: «Che importa a te come vada? Passa dietro e seguimi».
20 The lookout reported, 'He has reached them and is not coming back. The manner of driving is like thatof Jehu son of Nimshi: he drives like a madman.'	20 La sentinella riferì: «È arrivato da quelli, ma non torna indietro. Il modo di guidare è come quello di Ieu, figlio di Nimsì: difatti guida all’impazzata».
21 'Harness!' Jehoram cried; and they harnessed his chariot. Then Jehoram king of Israel and Ahaziahking of Judah, each in his chariot, set out to meet Jehu. They reached him in the field of Naboth of Jezreel.	21 Ioram disse: «Attacca i cavalli». Attaccarono i cavalli al suo carro. Ioram, re d’Israele, e Acazia, re di Giuda, uscirono ognuno sul proprio carro. Uscirono incontro a Ieu, che trovarono nel campo di Nabot di Izreèl.
22 As soon as Jehoram saw Jehu he asked, 'Is al wel , Jehu?' 'What a question!' he replied, 'when al thewhile the prostitutions and countless sorceries of your mother Jezebel go on.'	22 Quando Ioram vide Ieu, gli domandò: «Tutto bene, Ieu?». Rispose: «Come può andare tutto bene fin quando durano le prostituzioni di Gezabele, tua madre, e le sue numerose magie?».
23 At this, Jehoram wheeled and fled, saying to Ahaziah, 'Treason, Ahaziah!'	23 Allora Ioram si volse indietro e fuggì, dicendo ad Acazia: «Tradimento, Acazia!».
24 But Jehu had drawn his bow; he struck Jehoram between the shoulder-blades, the arrow went throughthe king's heart, and he sank down in his chariot.	24 Ieu, impugnato l’arco, colpì Ioram tra le spalle. La freccia gli attraversò il cuore ed egli si accasciò sul carro.
25 'Pick him up,' Jehu said to Bidkar, his equerry, 'and throw him into the field of Naboth of Jezreel.Remember how, when you and I manned a chariot together behind Ahab his father, Yahweh pronounced thissentence against him,	25 Ieu disse a Bidkar, suo scudiero: «Sollevalo, gettalo nel campo di Nabot di Izreèl. Ricòrdatelo: io e te eravamo con coloro che cavalcavano appaiati dietro Acab, suo padre, e il Signore proferì su di lui questo oracolo:
26 "This I swear. Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons -- Yahweh says this. Andin this same field I shall requite you -- Yahweh says this." So pick him up, and throw him into the field, asYahweh declared should happen!'	26 “Non ho forse visto ieri il sangue di Nabot e il sangue dei suoi figli? Oracolo del Signore. Ti ripagherò in questo stesso campo. Oracolo del Signore”. Sollevalo e gettalo nel campo secondo la parola del Signore».
27 When Ahaziah king of Judah saw this, he fled along the Beth-ha-Gan road, but Jehu went in pursuit ofhim. 'Strike him down too,' he said. And they wounded him in his chariot at the slope of Gur, which is nearIbleam, and he took refuge in Megiddo, where he died.	27 Visto ciò, Acazia, re di Giuda, fuggì per la strada di Bet-Gan; Ieu l’inseguì e ordinò: «Colpite anche lui!». Lo colpirono sul carro nella salita di Gur, nelle vicinanze di Ibleàm. Egli fuggì a Meghiddo, dove morì.
28 His servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem and buried him in his tomb in the City of David.	28 I suoi ufficiali lo portarono a Gerusalemme su un carro e lo seppellirono nel suo sepolcro, accanto ai suoi padri, nella Città di Davide.
29 Ahaziah had become king of Judah in the eleventh year of Jehoram son of Ahab.	29 Acazia era divenuto re di Giuda nell’anno undicesimo di Ioram, figlio di Acab.
30 When Jehu went back to Jezreel, Jezebel was told. She made up her eyes with mascara, adorned herhead and appeared at the window.	30 Ieu arrivò a Izreèl. Appena lo seppe, Gezabele si truccò gli occhi con stibio, si ornò il capo e si affacciò alla finestra.
31 As Jehu came through the gateway she said, 'How did Zimri get on after kil ing his master?'	31 Mentre Ieu arrivava alla porta, gli domandò: «Tutto bene, Zimrì, assassino del suo signore?».
32 Jehu looked up to the window and said, 'Who is on my side? Who?' And two or three officials lookeddown at him.	32 Ieu alzò lo sguardo verso la finestra e disse: «Chi è con me? Chi?». Due o tre cortigiani si affacciarono a guardarlo.
33 'Throw her down,' he said. They threw her down and her blood spattered the wal s and the horses; andJehu rode over her.	33 Egli disse: «Gettàtela giù». La gettarono giù. Parte del suo sangue schizzò sul muro e sui cavalli, che la calpestarono.
34 He went in and ate and drank, then said, 'See to this accursed woman, and give her burial; after al ,she was a king's daughter.'	34 Poi Ieu entrò, mangiò e bevve; alla fine ordinò: «Andate a vedere quella maledetta e seppellitela, perché era figlia di re».
35 But when they went to bury her, they found nothing but her skul , feet and hands.	35 Andati per seppellirla, non trovarono altro che il cranio, i piedi e le palme delle mani.
36 They came back and told Jehu, who said, 'This is the word of Yahweh which he spoke through hisservant Elijah the Tishbite, "The dogs wil eat the flesh of Jezebel in the field of Jezreel;	36 Tornati, riferirono il fatto a Ieu, che disse: «È la parola del Signore, che aveva detto per mezzo del suo servo Elia, il Tisbita: “Nel campo di Izreèl i cani divoreranno la carne di Gezabele.
37 the corpse of Jezebel wil be like dung spread on the fields, so that no one wil be able to say: This wasJezebel." '	37 E il cadavere di Gezabele sarà come letame sulla superficie della campagna nel campo di Izreèl, così che non si potrà più dire: Questa è Gezabele”».
