1 'Listen to the word of Yahweh,' Elisha said. 'Yahweh says this, "By this time tomorrow a measure offinest flour wil sel for one shekel, and two measures of barley for one shekel, at the gate of Samaria." '	1 Eliseo disse: « Udite la parola del Signore: Ecco ciò che dice il Signore: Domani a quest'ora il moggio di farina sarà a uno statere, e due moggia d'orzo a uno statere alla porta di Samaria ».
2 The equerry on whose arm the king was leaning retorted to Elisha, 'Even if Yahweh made windows inthe sky, could this word come true?' 'You wil see it with your own eyes,' Elisha replied, 'though you will eat noneof it.'	2 Uno dei capi, sul braccio del quale il re si appoggiava, rispondendo all'uomo di Dio, disse: « Anche se il Signore facesse delle cateratte nel cielo, potrebbe mai avvenire quello che dici? » Eliseo disse: « Lo vedrai coi tuoi occhi, ma non ne mangerai ».
3 Now at the entrance to the gate -- for they were afflicted with virulent skin-disease -- there were four men and they debated among themselves, 'Why sit here waiting for death?	3 Or v'erano all'entrata della porta quattro lebbrosi che si dissero l'un l'altro: « Perchè vogliamo star qui finché non siam morti?
4 If we decide to go into the city, what with the famine in it, we shal die there; if we stay where we are, weshall die just the same. Come on, let us go over to the Aramaean camp; if they spare our lives, we live; if they kilus, wel , then we die.'	4 Se scegliamo d'entrare in città, morremo di fame; se restiamo qui siam costretti a morire; venite adunque e passiamo al campo dei Siri: se ci risparmiano, vivremo, ed anche se ci ammazzano, tanto moriremo lo stesso ».
5 So at dusk they set out and made for the Aramaean camp, but when they reached the confines of thecamp there was not a soul there.	5 La sera si mossero e andarono al campo dei Siri; ma giunti che furono all'estremità del campo dei Siri, non vi trovaron nessuno;
6 For Yahweh had caused the Aramaeans in their camp to hear a noise of chariots and horses, the noiseof a great army; and they had said to one another, 'Listen! The king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptiankings against us, to attack us.'	6 perchè il Signore aveva fatto sentire nel campo dei Siri un rumore di carri e di cavalli e d'innumerevole armata, sicché si dissero l'un l'altro: « Ecco il re d'Israele ha assoldato contro di noi i re degli Etei e degli Egiziani, ed essi ci sono addosso ».
7 So in the dusk they had made off and fled, abandoning their tents, their horses and their donkeys;leaving the camp just as it was, they had fled for their lives.	7 E si levarono e fuggirono nelle tenebre, lasciando le loro tende, i cavalli e gli asini nel campo, cercando solo di salvare ie loro vite.
8 The men with skin-disease, then, reached the confines of the camp. They went into one of the tents andate and drank, and from it carried off silver and gold and clothing; these they took and hid. Then they came backand, entering another tent, looted it too, and took and hid their booty.	8 Or quei lebbrosi, arrivati che furono al principio del campo, entrarono in una tenda, mangiarono e bevvero, ne presero l'argento, l'oro e le vesti, ed andarono a nasconderle, poi, tornati, entrarono in un'altra tenda e andarono a nascondere anche la preda ivi fatta.
9 Then they said to one another, 'We are doing wrong. This is a day of good news, yet we are holding ourtongues! If we wait til morning, we shal certainly be punished. Come on, let us go and take the news to thepalace.'	9 Allora però si dissero l'un l'altro: « Così non facciamo bene, perchè questo è giorno di buona novella. Se noi staremo zitti e non porteremo la notizia avanti domattina, saremo accusati di delitto: orsù andiamo a portar la notizia alla corte del re ».
10 Off they went and shouted out to the guards on the city gate, 'We have been to the Aramaean camp.There was not a soul there, no sound of anyone, only tethered horses and tethered donkeys, and their tents justas they were.'	10 Giunti alla porta della città, diedero l'avviso, dicendo: « Siamo andati al campo dei Siri, e non vi abbiamo trovato nessuno; ma soltanto i cavalli e gli asini legati, e le tende ritte ».
11 The gatekeepers shouted the news, which was reported inside the palace.	11 Allora le guardie della porta andarono a portar la notizia dentro il palazzo del re.
12 The king got up while it was still dark and said to his officers, 'I can tel you what the Aramaeans havedone to us. They know we are starving, so they have left the camp to hide in the open country. "They wil comeout of the city," they think, "we shall catch them alive and get into the city." '	12 Il re alzatosi di notte, disse ai suoi servi: « Vi dirò io quello che han fatto i Siri contro di noi: sapendo che siamo affamati, essi sono usciti dal campo e si sono nascosti nella campagna, dicendo: Quando usciranno dalla città li prenderemo vivi, e allora potremo entrare nella città ».
13 One of his officers replied, 'Five of the surviving horses stil left us had better be taken -- they would diein any case like al the rest. Let us send them and see.'	13 Ma uno dei suoi servi rispose: « Prendiamo i cinque cavalli che son rimasti nella città (vi son quelli soli in tutta la moltitudine d'Israele, gli altri sono stati consumati) e mandiamoli, e potremo esplo­rare ».
14 So they took two chariot teams and the king sent them after the Aramaean army, saying, 'Go and see.'	14 Fatti prendere due ca­valli, il re mandò al campo dei Siri con questi ordini: « Andate e osservate ».
15 They fol owed them as far as the Jordan, finding the whole way strewn with clothes and gear which theAramaeans had thrown away in their panic. The scouts returned and informed the king.	15 Essi andarono dietro ai Siri fino al Giordano, e, visto che tutta la strada era pie­na di vesti e di oggetti che i Si­ri avevan gettati via nello scom­piglio, i messi tornarono a rife­rir la cosa al re.
16 Then the people went out and plundered the Aramaean camp: a measure of finest flour sold for oneshekel, and two measures of barley for one shekel, as Yahweh had promised they would.	16 Allora il popolo uscì a sac­cheggiare il campo dei Siri, e il moggio di fior di farina fu a uno statere, e due moggia d'orzo a uno statere, secondo la parola del Signore.
17 The king had detailed the equerry, on whose arm he leaned, as commander of the guard on the gate,but the people trampled on him in the gateway and he died, as the man of God had foretold when the king hadcome down to him.	17 Avendo il re messo a guar­dia della porta quel capo sul brac­cio del quale egli si appoggiava, la folla lo schiacciò all'entrata della porta, ed egli morì secondo quello che aveva detto l'uomo di Dio, quando il re era disceso da lui.
18 (What Elisha had said to the king came true, 'Two measures of barley wil sel for one shekel, and ameasure of finest flour for one shekel, by this time tomorrow at the gate of Samaria.'	18 Così avvenne secondo la parola dell'uomo di Dio che aveva detto al re in questi termini: « Due moggia di orzo domani a quest'ora saranno a uno statere, e un moggio di fior di farina a uno statere alla porta di Samaria».
19 And the equerry in question had replied to the man of God, 'Even if Yahweh made windows in the sky,could this word come true?' 'You wil see it with your own eyes,' Elisha had answered, 'though you wil eat noneof it.'	19 Quando quel capo, rispondendo all'uomo di Dio, disse: « Anche se il Signore facesse delle cateratte nel cielo, potrebbe mai avvenire quello che dici? » l'uomo di Dio gli rispose: « Lo vedrai con i tuoi occhi, ma non ne mangerai ».
20 And that was what happened to him: for the people trampled on him in the gateway and he died.)	20 E gli avvenne proprio come era stato predetto: il popolo lo schiacciò alla porta, ed egli morì.
