NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 'Listen to the word of Yahweh,' Elisha said. 'Yahweh says this, "By this time tomorrow a measure offinest flour wil sel for one shekel, and two measures of barley for one shekel, at the gate of Samaria." '	1 Eliseo disse: "Ascoltate la parola del Signore: "Domani, alla stessa ora, alla porta di Samaria una sea di fior di farina costerà un siclo e due sea di orzo pure un siclo".
2 The equerry on whose arm the king was leaning retorted to Elisha, 'Even if Yahweh made windows inthe sky, could this word come true?' 'You wil see it with your own eyes,' Elisha replied, 'though you will eat noneof it.'	2 Lo scudiero, al cui braccio era appoggiato il re, rispose all'uomo di Dio: "Ecco che il Signore sta per fare delle aperture nel cielo! E' mai possibile una cosa simile?". Eliseo replicò: "La vedrai tu stesso con i tuoi occhi, ma non ne mangerai".
3 Now at the entrance to the gate -- for they were afflicted with virulent skin-disease -- there were four men and they debated among themselves, 'Why sit here waiting for death?	3 Ora quattro uomini lebbrosi, che si trovavano all'ingresso della porta, si dissero l'un l'altro: "Perché noi rimaniamo qui fino a che non moriremo?
4 If we decide to go into the city, what with the famine in it, we shal die there; if we stay where we are, weshall die just the same. Come on, let us go over to the Aramaean camp; if they spare our lives, we live; if they kilus, wel , then we die.'	4 Se decidiamo di entrare in città, lì v'è la fame e moriremo; se invece restiamo qui, moriremo ugualmente. Orsù, andiamo e passiamo nell'accampamento di Aram: se ci lasceranno vivere, vivremo; se invece ci faranno morire, moriremo".
5 So at dusk they set out and made for the Aramaean camp, but when they reached the confines of thecamp there was not a soul there.	5 Al crepuscolo essi si levarono per andare all'accampamento di Aram; quando però giunsero all'estremità dell'accampamento di Aram, ecco, non v'era nessuno.
6 For Yahweh had caused the Aramaeans in their camp to hear a noise of chariots and horses, the noiseof a great army; and they had said to one another, 'Listen! The king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptiankings against us, to attack us.'	6 Il Signore infatti aveva fatto udire nell'accampamento di Aram un rumore di carri e di cavalli, un rumore di un grande esercito, ed essi si erano detti l'un l'altro: "Ecco, il re d'Israele ha assoldato contro di noi i re degli Hittiti e i re d'Egitto perché marcino contro di noi".
7 So in the dusk they had made off and fled, abandoning their tents, their horses and their donkeys;leaving the camp just as it was, they had fled for their lives.	7 Si levarono e fuggirono al crepuscolo, abbandonando le tende, i cavalli, gli asini, l'intero accampamento così come si trovava; essi fuggirono per salvare la loro vita.
8 The men with skin-disease, then, reached the confines of the camp. They went into one of the tents andate and drank, and from it carried off silver and gold and clothing; these they took and hid. Then they came backand, entering another tent, looted it too, and took and hid their booty.	8 Quei lebbrosi giunsero all'estremità dell'accampamento ed entrarono in una tenda, mangiarono e bevvero; poi asportarono di là argento, oro e vestiti che andarono a nascondere.
9 Then they said to one another, 'We are doing wrong. This is a day of good news, yet we are holding ourtongues! If we wait til morning, we shal certainly be punished. Come on, let us go and take the news to thepalace.'	9 Quindi si dissero l'un l'altro: "Non facciamo così! Oggi è giorno di buone notizie e noi ce ne stiamo zitti. Se aspettiamo che spunti il mattino, un castigo ci potrebbe colpire. Orsù, andiamo a informare il palazzo reale".
10 Off they went and shouted out to the guards on the city gate, 'We have been to the Aramaean camp.There was not a soul there, no sound of anyone, only tethered horses and tethered donkeys, and their tents justas they were.'	10 Arrivati che furono, chiamarono i guardiani della città e li informarono dicendo loro: "Siamo andati nell'accampamento di Aram, ed ecco là non c'era nessuno né si udiva voce umana; c'erano soltanto cavalli legati e asini legati e le tende così com'erano prima".
11 The gatekeepers shouted the news, which was reported inside the palace.	11 I guardiani gridarono e fecero giungere la notizia all'interno del palazzo reale.
12 The king got up while it was still dark and said to his officers, 'I can tel you what the Aramaeans havedone to us. They know we are starving, so they have left the camp to hide in the open country. "They wil comeout of the city," they think, "we shall catch them alive and get into the city." '	12 Il re si levò di notte e parlò ai suoi ufficiali: "Vi spiegherò io ciò che ci hanno fatto gli Aramei: sapendo che noi siamo affamati, sono usciti fuori dell'accampamento per nascondersi nella campagna dicendo: "Quando usciranno dalla città, li cattureremo vivi e poi entreremo nella città".
13 One of his officers replied, 'Five of the surviving horses stil left us had better be taken -- they would diein any case like al the rest. Let us send them and see.'	13 Uno degli ufficiali rispose: "Si prendano i cinque cavalli superstiti, che sono rimasti in città -- al massimo periranno anch'essi come la massa che è morta -- e mandiamo a vedere".
14 So they took two chariot teams and the king sent them after the Aramaean army, saying, 'Go and see.'	14 Presero dunque due carri con i loro cavalli e il re li inviò dietro gli Aramei dicendo loro: "Andate e vedete".
15 They fol owed them as far as the Jordan, finding the whole way strewn with clothes and gear which theAramaeans had thrown away in their panic. The scouts returned and informed the king.	15 Essi andarono dietro a loro fino al Giordano ed ecco tutta la strada era cosparsa di vesti e di oggetti che gli Aramei avevano gettato via nella loro fuga precipitosa. I messaggeri ritornarono e informarono il re.
16 Then the people went out and plundered the Aramaean camp: a measure of finest flour sold for oneshekel, and two measures of barley for one shekel, as Yahweh had promised they would.	16 Allora il popolo uscì e saccheggiò l'accampamento di Aram: così una sea di fior di farina venne a costare un siclo e due sea di orzo pure un siclo, secondo la parola del Signore.
17 The king had detailed the equerry, on whose arm he leaned, as commander of the guard on the gate,but the people trampled on him in the gateway and he died, as the man of God had foretold when the king hadcome down to him.	17 Il re aveva messo a guardia della porta lo scudiero al cui braccio egli s'appoggiava; il popolo lo calpestò presso la porta ed egli morì, secondo quello che aveva detto l'uomo di Dio quando il re era sceso da lui.
18 (What Elisha had said to the king came true, 'Two measures of barley wil sel for one shekel, and ameasure of finest flour for one shekel, by this time tomorrow at the gate of Samaria.'	18 Così avvenne come l'uomo di Dio aveva detto al re: "Domani, alla stessa ora, alla porta di Samaria, due sea di orzo costeranno un siclo e una sea di fior di farina pure un siclo".
19 And the equerry in question had replied to the man of God, 'Even if Yahweh made windows in the sky,could this word come true?' 'You wil see it with your own eyes,' Elisha had answered, 'though you wil eat noneof it.'	19 Lo scudiero aveva risposto all'uomo di Dio: "Ecco che il Signore sta per fare delle aperture nel cielo! E' mai possibile una cosa simile?". Quegli aveva replicato: "Lo vedrai tu stesso con i tuoi occhi, ma non ne mangerai".
20 And that was what happened to him: for the people trampled on him in the gateway and he died.)	20 Gli accadde proprio così: il popolo lo calpestò presso la porta ed egli morì.
