1 The king then had al the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem summoned to him,	1 Riferito che essi ebbero ciò che Olda aveva detto, il re mandò a tutti gli anziani di Giuda e di Gerusalemme, e li fece radunare presso di sè;
2 and the king went up to the Temple of Yahweh with al the people of Judah and al the inhabitants ofJerusalem, priests, prophets and the whole populace, high and low. In their hearing he read out the entirecontents of the Book of the Covenant discovered in the Temple of Yahweh.	2 poi il re salì al tempio del Signore con tutti gli uomini di Giuda, tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, i sacerdoti, i profeti, e tutto il popolo, dal piccolo al grande. Mentre tutti stavano attenti, egli lesse tutte le parole del libro dell'alleanza, trovato nella casa del Signore.
3 The king then, standing on the dais, bound himself by the covenant before Yahweh, to fol ow Yahweh,to keep his commandments, decrees and laws with al his heart and soul, and to carry out the terms of thecovenant as written in this book. Al the people pledged their allegiance to the covenant.	3 Il re, stando in piedi sulla tribuna, fece l'alleanza dinanzi al Signore, il patto di camminar dietro al Signore, di osservarne i precetti, le leggi, le cerimonie con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima, di rimettere in vigore le parole di questa alleanza scritte in quel libro, e il popolo acconsentì all'alleanza.
4 The king ordered Hilkiah with the priest next in rank and the guardians of the threshold to remove althe cult objects which had been made for Baal, Asherah and the whole array of heaven; he burnt them outsideJerusalem in the fields of the Kidron and had the ashes taken to Bethel.	4 Poi il re ordinò al pontefice Elcia ed ai sacerdoti del secondo ordine ed ai portinai di gettar fuori dal tempio del Signore tutti gli arredi che erano stati fatti per Baal, pel boschetto sacro e per tutta la milizia del cielo. Li bruciò fuori di Gerusalemme, nella valle del Cedron e ne portò la polvere a Betel.
5 He exterminated the spurious priests whom the kings of Judah had appointed and who offered sacrificeon the high places, in the towns of Judah and the neighbourhood of Jerusalem; also those who offered sacrificeto Baal, to the sun, the moon, the constel ations and the whole array of heaven.	5 Sterminò gli aruspici, dai re di Giuda stabiliti per sacrificare sugli alti luoghi, per le città di Giuda e intorno a Gerusalemme, e quelli che bruciavano incenso a Baal, al sole, alla luna, ai dodici segni e a tutta la milizia del cielo.
6 And from the Temple of Yahweh he took the sacred pole outside Jerusalem to the Kidron val ey and inthe Kidron valley he burnt it, reducing it to ashes and throwing its ashes on the common burial-ground.	6 Dalla casa del Signore fece portar fuori di Gerusalemme, nella valle del Cedron, il boschetto sacro, che ivi bruciò e ridusse in polvere, gettata poi sopra i sepolcri del volgo.
7 He pulled down the house of the sacred male prostitutes which was in the Temple of Yahweh andwhere the women wove veils for Asherah.	7 Distrusse anche le edicole degli effeminati, che eran nella casa del Signore e nelle quali le donne tessevano delle specie di tende pel boschetto sacro.
8 He brought all the priests in from the towns of Judah, and from Geba to Beersheba he renderedunsanctified the high places where these priests had offered sacrifice. He pul ed down the High Place of theGates, which stood at the gate of Joshua, the governor of the city, to the left of the entry to the city.	8 Radunati tutti i sacerdoti dalle città di Giuda, profanò gli alti luoghi dove quei sacerdoti sacrificavano, da Gabaa fino a Bersabee; distrusse gli altari delle porte, all'ingresso della porta di Giosuè, principe della città, la quale era a sinistra della porta della città.
9 The priests of the high places, however, did not officiate at the altar of Yahweh in Jerusalem, althoughthey did share the unleavened bread of their brother-priests.	9 I sacerdoti degli alti luoghi non salivano all'altare del Signore in Gerusalemme, però mangiavano gli azzimi in mezzo ai loro fratelli.
10 He rendered unsanctified Tophet in the Valley of Ben-Hinnom, so that no one could pass his son ordaughter through the fire of sacrifice to Molech.	10 Egli profanò Tofet, nella valle del figlio d'Ennom, affinchè nessuno consacrasse il suo figlio o la sua figlia a Moloc per mezzo del fuoco.

12 The king pulled down altars which the kings of Judah had built on the roof and those which Manassehhad built in the two courts of the Temple of Yahweh, and broke them to pieces on the spot, throwing their rubbleinto the Kidron val ey.	12 Parimenti il re distrusse gli altari che erano sopra il tetto della camera di Acaz, fatti dai re di Giuda, e gli altari da Manasse fatti nei due atrii del tempio del Signore, e di là corse a disperderne la polvere nel torrente Cedron.
13 The king rendered unsanctified the high places facing Jerusalem, to the south of the Mount of Olives,which Solomon king of Israel had built for Astarte the Sidonian abomination, for Chemosh the Moabiteabomination, and for Milcom the Ammonite abomination.	13 Il re profanò anche gli alti luoghi che erano in Gerusalemme dalla parte destra del monte dell'offesa e che Salomoa ne re d'Israele aveva eretti ad Astarot, idolo dei Sidoni, a Camos, scandalo di Moab, a Melcom, obbrobrio dei figli di Ammon.
14 He also smashed the sacred pil ars, cut down the sacred poles, and covered with human bones theplaces where they had stood.	14 Fece in pezzi le statue, abbattè i boschetti sacri, e riempì quei luoghi di ossa di morti.
15 As for the altar which was at Bethel, the high place built by Jeroboam son of Nebat who had led Israelinto sin, he demolished this altar and this high place as wel , in the same way, breaking up its stones andreducing them to powder. 16 On looking round, Josiah saw the tombs there on the hil side; he had the bones fetched from thetombs and burned them on the altar. This he rendered unsanctified, in accordance with the word of Yahwehwhich the man of God had proclaimed when Jeroboam was standing by the altar at the time of the feast. Onlooking round, Josiah caught sight of the tomb of the man of God who had foretold these things.	16 Voltatosi e veduti i sepolcri che eran sul monte, Giosia mandò a prendere le ossa dai sepolcri, le bruciò sull'altare a e così lo profanò, secondo la parola del Signore pronunziata dall'uomo di Dio che aveva predette queste cose.
17 'What is that monument I see?' he asked. The townspeople replied, 'It is the tomb of the man of Godwho came from Judah and foretold what you have done to the altar.'	17 Poi il re domandò: « Di chi è quel monumento che io vedo? » Gli uomini di quella città gli risposero: « E' il sepolcro dell'uomo di Dio che venne da o Giuda e predisse queste cose che tu hai fatte sopra l'altare di Betel ».
18 'Let him rest,' the king said, 'and let no one disturb his bones.' So they left his bones untouched, withthe bones of the prophet who came from Samaria.	18 Il re disse: « Lasciatelo stare: nessuno muova le sue ossa ». E le ossa di lui rimasero intatte colle ossa del profeta che era venuto da Samaria.
19 Josiah also destroyed all the shrines on the high places which were in the towns of Samaria andwhich the kings of Israel had built to provoke Yahweh's anger; he treated these places exactly as he had treatedthe one at Bethel.	19 Inoltre Giosia demolì tutti i templi degli alti luoghi che eran nella città di Samaria, fatti dai re d'Israele per muovere ad ira il Signore, e fece loro tutto quello che aveva fatto a Betel.
20 Al the priests of the high places who were there he slaughtered on the altars, and on those altarsburned human bones. 21 The king gave this order to the whole people: 'Celebrate a Passover to Yahweh your God, asprescribed in this Book of the Covenant.'	21 Diede a tutto il popolo quest'ordine: « Fate la Pasqua del Signore Dio vostro secondo quello che sta scritto nel libro di questa alleanza ».
22 No Passover like this had ever been celebrated since the days when the judges ruled Israel, northroughout the entire period of the kings of Israel and the kings of Judah.	22 Dal tempo dei Giudici che giudicarono Israele, in tutto il tempo dei re d'Israele e dei re di Giuda non fu fatta una Pasqua
23 The eighteenth year of King Josiah was the only time when such a Passover was celebrated inYahweh's honour in Jerusalem.	23 come questa Pasqua in onore del Signore fatta in Gerusalemme l'anno decimottavo del re Giosia.
24 What is more, the spirit-guides and mediums, the household gods and idols, and al the abominationsto be seen in the country of Judah and in Jerusalem, were swept away by Josiah to give effect to the words ofthe Law written in the book found by the priest Hilkiah in the Temple of Yahweh.	24 Giosia tolse anche quei che avevan lo spirito indovino, gl'indovini, le figure degl'idoli, le immondezze, le abbominazioni che erano state nella terra di Giuda e di Gerusalemme. Così mise in pratica le parole della legge che sono scritte nel libro, dal sacerdote Elcia trovato nel tempio del Signore.
25 No king before him turned to Yahweh as he did, with al his heart, all his soul, al his strength, inperfect loyalty to the Law of Moses; nor did any king like him arise again.	25 Non vi fu prima di Giosia un re simile a lui nel tornare al Signore con tutto il suo cuore, con tutta la sua anima, con tutte le sue forze, secondo tutta la legge di Mosè; ed anche dopo di lui non ne sorse uno simile.
26 Yet Yahweh did not renounce the heat of his great anger which had been aroused against Judah byal the provocations which Manasseh had caused him.	26 Tuttavia il Signore non cessò l'ira del suo gran furore con cui il suo sdegno s'era acceso contro Giuda, per gli oltraggi coi quali Manasse lo aveva irritato.
27 Yahweh said, 'I shal thrust Judah away from me too, as I have already thrust Israel; I shall cast offJerusalem, this city which I have chosen, and the Temple of which I have said: My Name shal be there.'	27 Il Signore ormai aveva detto: « Io mi terrò dinanzi anche Giuda come mi tolsi Israele, e rigetterò questa città di Gerusalemme, da me eletta, questa casa di cui dissi: Ivi sarà il mio nome ».
28 The rest of the history of Josiah, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah?	28 Il resto degli atti di Giosia, tutto ciò che fece non è scritto nel libro delle cronache dei re di Giuda?
29 In his times, Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt was advancing to meet the king of Assyria at the RiverEuphrates, and King Josiah went to intercept him; but Necho kil ed him at Megiddo in the first encounter.	29 Al tempo di lui il Faraone Necao re dell'Egitto salì contro il re degli Assiri verso l'Eufrate. 30 His retainers carried his body from Megiddo by chariot; they brought him to Jerusalem and buried himin his own tomb. 32 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, just as his ancestors had done.	32 Egli fece il male nel cospetto del Signore, come avevan fatto i suoi padri.
33 Pharaoh Necho put him in chains at Riblah in Hamath, to prevent his reigning any longer inJerusalem, and imposed a levy of a hundred talents of silver and ten talents of gold on the country.	33 Ma il Faraone Necao, messolo in catene a Rebla, nel paese di Emat, affinchè non regnasse in Gerusalemme, e, imposta al paese un'indennità di cento talenti d'argento e di un talento d'oro,
34 Pharaoh Necho then made Eliakim son of Josiah king in succession to Josiah his father, and changedhis name to Jehoiakim. Carrying off Jehoahaz, he took him to Egypt, where he died.	34 costituì re in luogo di suo padre, Eliachim figlio di Giosia, mutatogli il nome in Ioachim, e Ioacaz lo prese, e lo condusse in Egitto ove morì.

His mother's name was Zebidah daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.	36 Ioachim aveva venticinque anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò undici anni in Gerusalem­me. Sua madre si chiamava Zebida, figlia di Fadaia di Ruma.
37 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, just as his ancestors had done.	37 Egli fece il male nel cospetto del Signore, secondo tutto quello che avevan fatto i suoi padri.
