1 King David was now a very old man, and though wrapped in bedclothes he could not keep warm.	1 Le roi David avait vieilli, et atteint un âge très avancé; et quoiqu'on le couvrît beaucoup, il ne se réchauffait pas.
2 So his servants said to him, 'Let us find a young girl for my lord the king, to wait on the king and lookafter him; she wil lie close beside you and this wil keep my lord the king warm.'	2 Ses serviteurs lui dirent donc : Nous chercherons pour le roi notre seigneur une jeune fille vierge, afin qu'elle se tienne devant le roi, qu'elle l'échauffe, et que, dormant auprès de lui, elle remédie à ce grand froid du roi notre seigneur.
3 Having searched for a beautiful girl throughout the territory of Israel, they found Abishag of Shunem andbrought her to the king.	3 Ils cherchèrent donc dans toutes les terres d'Israël une belle jeune fille, et ayant trouvé Abisag de Sunam, ils l'amenèrent au roi.
4 The girl was very beautiful. She looked after the king and waited on him but the king did not haveintercourse with her.	4 C'était une jeune fille d'une grande beauté; elle dormait auprès du roi, et elle le servait, et le roi la laissa toujours vierge.
5 Now Adonijah son of Haggith was growing pretentious and saying, 'I shal be king!' Accordingly, heprocured a chariot and team with fifty guards to run ahead of him.	5 Cependant Adonias fils d'Haggith s'élevait, en disant : C'est moi qui régnerai. Et il se fit faire des chars, prit des cavaliers, et cinquante hommes qui couraient devant lui.
6 Never once in his life had his father crossed him by saying, 'Why are you behaving like that?' He wasvery handsome too; his mother had given birth to him after Absalom.	6 Jamais son père ne l'en reprit, en lui disant : Pourquoi agissez-vous ainsi? Il était parfaitement beau, et le second après Absalom.
7 He conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with the priest Abiathar, who both ral ied to Adonijah's cause;	7 Il s'était lié avec Joab fils de Sarvia, et avec le grand prêtre Abiathar, qui soutenaient son parti.
8 but neither Zadok the priest, nor Benaiah son of Jehoiada, nor the prophet Nathan, nor Shimei and Rei,nor David's champions, supported Adonijah.	8 Mais le grand prêtre Sadoc, Banaïas fils de Joïada, le prophète Nathan, Séméi et Réi, et toute la force de l'armée de David n'étaient point pour Adonias.
9 One day when Adonijah was sacrificing sheep, oxen and fattened calves at the Sliding Stone which isbeside the Ful er's Spring, he invited al his brothers, the royal princes, and al the men of Judah in the king'sservice;	9 Adonias ayant donc immolé des béliers, des veaux et toute sorte de victimes grasses auprès de la Pierre de Zohéleth, qui était près de la fontaine Rogel, convia tous ses frères, les fils du roi, et tous ceux de Juda qui étaient au service du roi.
10 but he did not invite the prophet Nathan, or Benaiah, or the champions, or his brother Solomon.	10 Mais il n'invita pas le prophète Nathan, ni Banaïas, ni tous les plus vaillants de l'armée, ni Salomon son frère.
11 Nathan then said to Bathsheba, Solomon's mother, 'Have you not heard that, unknown to our lordDavid, Adonijah son of Haggith has become king?	11 Alors Nathan dit à Bethsabée, mère de Salomon : Savez-vous qu'Adonias fils d'Haggith s'est fait roi, sans que David notre seigneur le sache?
12 Wel , this is my advice to you if you want to save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.	12 Venez donc, et suivez mon conseil; sauvez votre vie et celle de votre fils Salomon.
13 Go straight in to King David and say, "My lord king, did you not make your servant this promise onoath: Your son Solomon is to be king after me; he is the one who is to sit on my throne? How is it, then, thatAdonijah is king?"	13 Allez vous présenter au roi David, et dites-lui : O roi mon seigneur, ne m'avez-vous pas juré, à moi votre servante, en disant : Salomon votre fils régnera après moi, et c'est lui qui sera assis sur mon trône? Pourquoi donc Adonias règne-t-il?
14 And while you are stil there talking to the king, I shal come in after you and confirm what you say.'	14 Pendant que vous parlerez encore avec le roi, je viendrai après vous, et je compléterai vos paroles.
15 So Bathsheba went to the king in his room (he was very old and Abishag of Shunem was in attendanceon him).	15 Bethsabée alla donc trouver le roi dans sa chambre. Or le roi était fort vieux, et Abisag de Sunam le servait.
16 She knelt, prostrated herself before the king, and the king said, 'What do you want?'	16 Bethsabée s'inclina profondément, et adora le roi. Et le roi lui dit : Que désirez-vous?
17 'My lord,' she replied, 'you swore to your servant by Yahweh your God, "Your son Solomon is to beking after me; he is the one who is to sit on my throne."	17 Elle lui répondit : Mon seigneur, vous avez juré à votre servante par le Seigneur votre Dieu, et vous m'avez dit : Salomon votre fils régnera après moi, et c'est lui qui sera assis sur mon trône.
18 And now here is Adonijah king, and you, my lord king, knowing nothing about it!	18 Cependant voilà qu'Adonias s'est fait roi, sans que vous le sachiez, ô roi mon seigneur.
19 He has sacrificed quantities of oxen, fattened calves and sheep, and invited all the royal princes, thepriest Abiathar, and Joab the army commander; but he has not invited your servant Solomon.	19 Il a immolé des boeufs, toute sorte de victimes grasses, et un grand nombre de béliers; il a invité tous les enfants du roi, avec le grand prêtre Abiathar, et Joab, général de l'armée; mais il n'a point convié Salomon votre serviteur.
20 Yet you are the man, my lord king, to whom al Israel looks, to tel them who is to succeed my lord theking.	20 Or tout Israël a maintenant les yeux sur vous, ô roi mon seigneur, afin que vous leur déclariez, mon seigneur le roi, qui doit être assis après vous sur votre trône.
21 And when my lord the king fal s asleep with his ancestors, Solomon and I shal be made to suffer forthis.'	21 Car après que le roi mon seigneur se sera endormi avec ses pères, nous serons traités comme des criminels, moi et mon fils Salomon.
22 She was stil speaking to the king when the prophet Nathan came in.	22 Elle parlait encore au roi, lorsque le prophète Nathan arriva.
23 The king was told, 'The prophet Nathan is here'; and he came into the king's presence and prostratedhimself on his face before the king.	23 Et l'on dit au roi : Voilà le prophète Nathan. Nathan s'étant présenté devant le roi, l'adora en s'inclinant jusqu'à terre,
24 'My lord king,' said Nathan, 'is this, then, your decree, "Adonijah is to be king after me; he is the onewho is to sit on my throne"?	24 et il lui dit : O roi mon seigneur, avez-vous dit : Qu'Adonias règne après moi, et que ce soit lui qui soit assis sur mon trône?
25 For he has gone down today and sacrificed quantities of oxen, fattened calves and sheep, and invitedal the royal princes, the army commanders, and the priest Abiathar; and they are there now, eating and drinkingin his presence and shouting, "Long live King Adonijah!"	25 Car il est descendu aujourd'hui, il a immolé des boeufs, des victimes grasses et de nombreux béliers, et il a convié tous les fils du roi, les généraux de l'armée, et le grand prêtre Abiathar, qui ont mangé et bu avec lui, en disant : Vive le roi Adonias!
26 He has not, however, invited me your servant, Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, or yourservant Solomon.	26 Mais pour moi, votre serviteur, il ne m'a pas invité, ni le grand prêtre Sadoc, ni Banaïas fils de Joïada, non plus que Salomon votre serviteur.
27 Can it be that this is done with my lord the king's approval and that you have not told those loyal to youwho is to succeed to the throne of my lord the king?'	27 Cet ordre est-il venu de la part du roi mon seigneur, sans que vous ayez déclaré à votre serviteur qui devait être assis après le roi mon seigneur sur son trône?
28 King David then spoke. 'Cal Bathsheba to me,' he said. And she came into the king's presence andstood before him.	28 Le roi David répondit : Appelez-moi Bethsabée. Bethsabée s'étant présentée devant le roi, et se tenant devant lui,
29 Then the king swore this oath, 'As Yahweh lives, who has delivered me from all adversity,	29 le roi lui jura, et lui dit : Vive le Seigneur, qui a délivré mon âme de toute angoisse!
30 just as I swore to you by Yahweh, God of Israel, that your son Solomon should be king after me andtake my place on my throne, so I shal bring it about this very day.'	30 Ce que je vous ai juré par le Seigneur, le Dieu d'Israël, en disant : Salomon votre fils règnera après moi, et c'est lui qui sera assis à ma place sur mon trône, je le ferai dès aujourd'hui.
31 Bathsheba knelt down, prostrated herself on her face before the king and said, 'May my lord KingDavid live for ever!'	31 Bethsabée, inclinant profondément son visage jusqu'à terre, adora le roi et lui dit : Que David mon seigneur vive à jamais!
32 Then King David said, 'Summon Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.'So they came into the king's presence.	32 Le roi David dit encore : Faites-moi venir le grand prêtre Sadoc, le prophète Nathan et Banaïas fils de Joïada. Lorsqu'ils se furent présentés devant le roi,
33 'Take the royal guard with you,' said the king, 'mount my son Solomon on my own mule and escort himdown to Gihon.	33 il leur dit : Prenez avec vous les serviteurs de votre maître, faites monter sur ma mule mon fils Salomon, et menez-le à Gihon,
34 There Zadok the priest and the prophet Nathan are to anoint him king of Israel; then sound the trumpetand shout, "Long live King Solomon!"	34 et que le grand prêtre Sadoc et le prophète Nathan le sacrent en ce lieu comme roi d'Israël; et vous sonnerez de la trompette, et vous crierez : Vive le roi Salomon!
35 Then you are to escort him back, and he is then to assume my throne and be king in place of me, forhe is the man whom I have appointed as ruler of Israel and of Judah.'	35 Et vous monterez après lui, et il viendra s'asseoir sur mon trône, il règnera à ma place, et je lui ordonnerai d'être chef d'Israël et de Juda.
36 Benaiah son of Jehoiada answered the king. 'Amen!' he said. 'And may Yahweh, God of my lord theking, confirm it!	36 Banaïas fils de Joïada répondit au roi : Amen. Que le Seigneur, le Dieu du roi mon seigneur, l'ordonne ainsi.
37 As Yahweh has been with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon and make his throne evengreater than the throne of my lord King David!'	37 Comme le Seigneur a été avec le roi mon seigneur, qu'il soit de même avec Salomon, et qu'il élève son trône encore plus que ne l'a été le trône de David, mon roi et mon seigneur.
38 Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and Pelethitesthen went down; they mounted Solomon on King David's mule and escorted him to Gihon.	38 Alors le grand prêtre Sadoc descendit avec le prophète Nathan, Banaïas fils de Joïada, les Céréthiens et les Phéléthiens, et ils firent monter Salomon sur la mule du roi David, et le menèrent à Gihon.
39 Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the Tent and anointed Solomon. They sounded the trumpetand all the people shouted, 'Long live King Solomon!'	39 Et le grand prêtre Sadoc prit du tu tabernacle une corne pleine d'huile, et sacra Salomon. Ils sonnèrent de la trompette, et tout le peuple s'écria : Vive le roi Salomon!
40 The people al escorted him back, with pipes playing and loud rejoicing and shouts to split the earth.	40 Une immense multitude monta après lui; beaucoup jouaient de la flûte, et donnaient les marques d'une grande joie, et la terre retentissait de leurs acclamations.
41 Adonijah and his guests, who had by then finished their meal, al heard the noise. Joab too heard thesound of the trumpet and said, 'What is that noise of uproar in the city?'	41 Adonias et tous ceux qu'il avait invités entendirent ce bruit, et le festin venait de s'achever, et Joab, ayant reconnu le son de la trompette, dit : Que signifient ces cris et ce tumulte de la ville?
42 While he was stil speaking, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest arrived. 'Come in,' Adonijah said, 'youare an honest man, so you must be bringing good news.'	42 Tandis qu'il parlait encore, Jonathas, fils du grand prêtre Abiathar, arriva, et Adonias lui dit : Entre, car tu es un vaillant homme, et tu nous apportes de bonnes nouvelles.
43 'The truth is,' Jonathan answered, 'our lord King David has made Solomon king.	43 Jonathas répondit à Adonias : Nullement, car le roi David notre seigneur a fait Salomon roi.
44 With him, the king sent Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan, Benaiah son of Jehoiada and theCherethites and Pelethites; they mounted him on the king's mule,	44 Il a envoyé avec lui le grand prêtre Sadoc, le prophète Nathan, Banaïas fils de Joïada, les Céréthiens et les Phéléthiens, et ils l'ont fait monter sur la mule du roi.
45 and Zadok the priest and the prophet Nathan have anointed him king at Gihon; and they have goneback again with shouts of joy and the city is now in an uproar; that was the noise you heard.	45 Et le grand prêtre Sadoc, et le prophète Nathan l'ont sacré roi à Gihon, d'où ils sont revenus avec des cris de joie dont a retenti la ville; c'est là le bruit que vous avez entendu.
46 What is more, Solomon is seated on the royal throne.	46 De plus, Salomon est assis sur le trône du royaume.
47 And further, the king's officers have been to congratulate our lord King David with the words, "May yourGod make the name of Solomon more glorious than yours, and his throne more exalted than your own!" And theking bowed down on his bed,	47 Et les serviteurs du roi sont venus bénir le roi David notre seigneur, en disant : Que Dieu rende le nom de Salomon encore plus illustre que le vôtre, et qu'il élève son trône au-dessus de votre trône. Et le roi, adorant Dieu dans son lit,
48 and then said, "Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, for setting one of my own sons on the throne while Iam stil alive to see it!" '	48 a dit: Béni soit le Seigneur, le Dieu d'Israël, qui m'a fait voir aujourd'hui de mes propres yeux mon fils assis sur mon trône!
49 At this, all Adonijah's guests, taking fright, got up and made off in their several directions.	49 Alors tous ceux qu'Adonias avait invités se levèrent saisis de frayeur, et chacun s'en alla de son côté.
50 Adonijah, in terror of Solomon, got up and ran off to cling to the horns of the altar.	50 Mais Adonias, craignant Salomon, se leva, et s'en alla saisir la corne de l'autel.
51 Solomon was told, 'You should know that Adonijah is terrified of King Solomon and is now clinging tothe horns of the altar, saying, "Let King Solomon first swear to me that he will not have his servant executed." '	51 Alors on vint dire à Salomon : Voilà qu'Adonias, craignant le roi Salomon, a saisi la corne de l'autel; et il dit : Que le roi Salomon me jure aujourd'hui qu'il ne fera pas mourir son serviteur par l'épée.
52 'Should he bear himself honourably,' Solomon answered, 'not one hair of his shal fal to the ground;but if he proves difficult, he shal die.'	52 Salomon répondit : S'il est homme de bien, il ne tombera pas à terre un seul cheveu de sa tête; mais, s'il est coupable, il mourra.
53 King Solomon then sent for him to be brought down from the altar; he came and threw himselfprostrate before King Solomon; Solomon said to him, 'Go to your house.'	53 Le roi Salomon envoya donc vers Adonias, et le fit tirer de l'autel; et Adonias, s'étant présenté devant le roi Salomon, l'adora; et Salomon lui dit : Allez dans votre maison.
