1 King David was now a very old man, and though wrapped in bedclothes he could not keep warm.	1 Il re David era vecchio, e di età avanzata: e per quanto si coprisse, non potea riscaldarsi.
2 So his servants said to him, 'Let us find a young girl for my lord the king, to wait on the king and lookafter him; she wil lie close beside you and this wil keep my lord the king warm.'	2 Gli dissero pertanto i suoi servi: Si cerchi pel re signor nostro una ver­gine giovinetta, la quale si stia col re, e lo riscaldi, e dorma con lui, e renda il calore al re signor nostro.
3 Having searched for a beautiful girl throughout the territory of Israel, they found Abishag of Shunem andbrought her to the king.	3 Cercarono adunque in tutto il paese d'Israele una fanciulla avvenente, e trovarono Abisag di Sunam, e la mena­rono al re.
4 The girl was very beautiful. She looked after the king and waited on him but the king did not haveintercourse with her.	4 E la fanciulla era bella oltre modo, e dormiva col re, e lo serviva; ma il re nolla conobbe.
5 Now Adonijah son of Haggith was growing pretentious and saying, 'I shal be king!' Accordingly, heprocured a chariot and team with fifty guards to run ahead of him.	5 Ma Adonia figliuolo di Haggith era montato in superbia, e diceva: Io sarò re. E avea de' cocchi, e de' soldati a cavallo, e cinquanta uomini per sua scorta.
6 Never once in his life had his father crossed him by saying, 'Why are you behaving like that?' He wasvery handsome too; his mother had given birth to him after Absalom.	6 E il padre suo noi riprese giammai, nè disse: Perchè fai tu questo? Or Adonia era anch'egli bello assai, e fra­tello secondogenito di Assalonne.
7 He conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with the priest Abiathar, who both ral ied to Adonijah's cause;	7 Ed egli se la intendeva con Gioab figliuolo di Sarvia, e con Abiathar som­mo Sacerdote, i quali favorivano il suo partito.
8 but neither Zadok the priest, nor Benaiah son of Jehoiada, nor the prophet Nathan, nor Shimei and Rei,nor David's champions, supported Adonijah.	8 Ma il sommo Sacerdote Sadoc, e Banaia figliuolo di Joiada, e Nathan profeta, e Semei, e Rei, e il nerbo elle milizie di Davidde non erano per Adonia.
9 One day when Adonijah was sacrificing sheep, oxen and fattened calves at the Sliding Stone which isbeside the Ful er's Spring, he invited al his brothers, the royal princes, and al the men of Judah in the king'sservice;	9 Adonia adunque avendo immolati degli arieti, e de' vitelli, e grosse vitti­me d'ogni sorta vicino al masso di Zoheleth, che era dappresso alla fontana di Rogel, invitò tutti i suoi fratelli figli­uoli del re, e tutti gli uomini di Giuda servi del re.
10 but he did not invite the prophet Nathan, or Benaiah, or the champions, or his brother Solomon.	10 Ma non invitò Nathan profeta, nè Banaia, nè i più valorosi soldati, nè Salomone suo fratello.
11 Nathan then said to Bathsheba, Solomon's mother, 'Have you not heard that, unknown to our lordDavid, Adonijah son of Haggith has become king?	11 Or il profeta Nathan disse a Beth sabea madre di Salomone: Non hai tu sentito dire, che regna già Adonia figli­uolo di Haggith, e il signor nostro Da­vidde lo ignora?
12 Wel , this is my advice to you if you want to save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.	12 Ora adunque vieni, lasciati con­sigliare da me, e salva la vita tua, e quella di Salomone tuo figliuolo.
13 Go straight in to King David and say, "My lord king, did you not make your servant this promise onoath: Your son Solomon is to be king after me; he is the one who is to sit on my throne? How is it, then, thatAdonijah is king?"	13 Va, e presentati al re Davidde, e digli: Non è egli vero, o re signor mio, che tu facesti giuramento alla tua ser­va, e dicesti: Salomone tuo figliuolo regnerà dopo di me, ed egli sederà sul mio trono? perchè adunque regna Ado­nia?
14 And while you are stil there talking to the king, I shal come in after you and confirm what you say.'	14 E tu non avrai finito di dir queste cose al re, quand'io sopraggiungerò, e confermerò il tuo dire.
15 So Bathsheba went to the king in his room (he was very old and Abishag of Shunem was in attendanceon him).	15 Entrò adunque Bethsabea nella camera del re: or il re era vecchio assai e Abisag Sunamite lo serviva.
16 She knelt, prostrated herself before the king, and the king said, 'What do you want?'	16 Bethsabea s'inchinò, e adorò il re. E il re le disse: Che domandi tu?
17 'My lord,' she replied, 'you swore to your servant by Yahweh your God, "Your son Solomon is to beking after me; he is the one who is to sit on my throne."	17 Ed ella rispose, e disse: Signor mio, tu giurasti alla tua serva pel Si­gnor Dio tuo, che Salomone mio figli­uolo regnerebbe dopo di te, e sederebbe nel tuo trono.
18 And now here is Adonijah king, and you, my lord king, knowing nothing about it!	18 Ed ecco, che a quest'ora regna Adonia, senza che lo sappi tu, o re si­gnor mio.
19 He has sacrificed quantities of oxen, fattened calves and sheep, and invited all the royal princes, thepriest Abiathar, and Joab the army commander; but he has not invited your servant Solomon.	19 Egli ha immolati de' bovi; e delle grasse vittime, e degli arieti in gran numero, e ha invitati tutti i figliuoli del re, e anche Abiathar sommo Sacerdote, e Gioab capo dell'esercito: ma non ha invitato Salomone tuo servo.
20 Yet you are the man, my lord king, to whom al Israel looks, to tel them who is to succeed my lord theking.	20 Frattanto, o re signor mio, gli occhi di tutto Israele son rivolti verso di te, affinchè tu dichiari chi debba se­der sul tuo trono dopo di te, o re signor mio.
21 And when my lord the king fal s asleep with his ancestors, Solomon and I shal be made to suffer forthis.'	21 E avverrà, che quando il re signor mio si sarà addormentato co' padri suoi, saremo io, e il mio figliuolo Salomone, quai peccatori.
22 She was stil speaking to the king when the prophet Nathan came in.	22 E mentre ella parlava tutt' ora al re, giunse Nathan profeta.
23 The king was told, 'The prophet Nathan is here'; and he came into the king's presence and prostratedhimself on his face before the king.	23 E fu detto al re: E qui il profeta Nathan. E quand'egli fu entrato al cospetto del re, e lo ebbe adorato chi­nandosi fino a terra,
24 'My lord king,' said Nathan, 'is this, then, your decree, "Adonijah is to be king after me; he is the onewho is to sit on my throne"?	24 Disse Nathan: Signor mio re, hai tu forse detto: Regni Adonia do­po di me, ed egli segga sopra il mio trono?
25 For he has gone down today and sacrificed quantities of oxen, fattened calves and sheep, and invitedal the royal princes, the army commanders, and the priest Abiathar; and they are there now, eating and drinkingin his presence and shouting, "Long live King Adonijah!"	25 Perocché egli è andato oggi ad immolare de' bovi, e delle grasse vitti­me, e degli arieti in gran numero, e ha invitati tutti i figliuoli del re, e i capi dell'esercito, e Abiathar sommo Sacerdote: e questi mangiando, e bevendo con lui, hanno detto: Viva il re Ado­nia:
26 He has not, however, invited me your servant, Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, or yourservant Solomon.	26 Egli non ha invitato me tuo servo, nè il sommo Sacerdote Sadoc, nè Banaia figliuolo di Joiada, nè Salomone tuo servo.
27 Can it be that this is done with my lord the king's approval and that you have not told those loyal to youwho is to succeed to the throne of my lord the king?'	27 E egli stato dato dal re mio signore un simil comando, e non hai tu dichiarato a me tuo servo chi fosse que­gli, che dovea sedere sul trono del re mio signore dopo di lui?
28 King David then spoke. 'Cal Bathsheba to me,' he said. And she came into the king's presence andstood before him.	28 Ma il re Davidde rispose, e disse: Chiamatemi Bethsabea. Ed essendo ella venuta dinanzi al re, e stando in sua presenza,
29 Then the king swore this oath, 'As Yahweh lives, who has delivered me from all adversity,	29 Il re giurò, e disse: Viva il Signore, il quale liberò l'anima mia da ogni travaglio,
30 just as I swore to you by Yahweh, God of Israel, that your son Solomon should be king after me andtake my place on my throne, so I shal bring it about this very day.'	30 Come io giurai a te pel Signore Dio d'Israele, e dissi: Salomone tuo figlio regnerà dopo di me, e sederà sul mio trono in mia vece; così oggi io farò.
31 Bathsheba knelt down, prostrated herself on her face before the king and said, 'May my lord KingDavid live for ever!'	31 E Bethsabea, chinata la faccia sino a terra, adorò il re, e disse: Viva il signor mio Davidde in eterno.
32 Then King David said, 'Summon Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.'So they came into the king's presence.	32 Disse poi il re Davidde: Chiama­temi Sadoc sommo Sacerdote, e Nathan profeta, e Banaia figliuolo di Joiada. Ed essendo questi venuti al cospetto del re,
33 'Take the royal guard with you,' said the king, 'mount my son Solomon on my own mule and escort himdown to Gihon.	33 Disse loro: Prendete con voi i servi miei, e mettete Salomone mio fi­gliuolo a cavallo sopra la mia mula, e conducetelo a Gihon.
34 There Zadok the priest and the prophet Nathan are to anoint him king of Israel; then sound the trumpetand shout, "Long live King Solomon!"	34 E ivi lo ungano Sadoc sommo Sa­cerdote, e Nathan profeta in re d'Israe­le: e sonerete la tromba, e direte: Viva il re Salomone:
35 Then you are to escort him back, and he is then to assume my throne and be king in place of me, forhe is the man whom I have appointed as ruler of Israel and of Judah.'	35 E tornerete dietro a lui, ed egli verrà a porsi a sedere sul mio trono, e regnerà in mia vece: e io gli comande­rò di reggere Israele, e Giuda.
36 Benaiah son of Jehoiada answered the king. 'Amen!' he said. 'And may Yahweh, God of my lord theking, confirm it!	36 E Banaia figliuolo di Joiada ri­spose al re, e disse: Così sia: sia que­sta parola del Signore Dio del re mio padrone.
37 As Yahweh has been with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon and make his throne evengreater than the throne of my lord King David!'	37 Come il Signore fa col re mio padrone, così sia egli con Salomone, e innalzi il suo trono anche al di so­pra del trono del re mìo signore Da­vidde.
38 Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and Pelethitesthen went down; they mounted Solomon on King David's mule and escorted him to Gihon.	38 Andarono adunque Sadoc Sacer­dote, e Nathan profeta, e Banaia figli­uolo di Joiada, e i Cerethei, e i Pnelethei, e misero Salomone sulla mula del re Davidde, e lo menarono a Gi­hon.
39 Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the Tent and anointed Solomon. They sounded the trumpetand all the people shouted, 'Long live King Solomon!'	39 E il Sacerdote Sadoc prese il cor­no dell'olio dal tabernacolo, e unse Salomone; e sonaron la tromba, e tutto il popolo disse: Viva il re Salo­mone.
40 The people al escorted him back, with pipes playing and loud rejoicing and shouts to split the earth.	40 E tutta la moltitudine andogli dietro, e una gran turba sonava de' flauti, e facevano festa grande, e la terra rimbombava dolle loro acclama­zioni.
41 Adonijah and his guests, who had by then finished their meal, al heard the noise. Joab too heard thesound of the trumpet and said, 'What is that noise of uproar in the city?'	41 E ne punse il rumore ad Adonia, e a tutti i suoi convitati, e già era finito il banchetto; e Gioab avendo sentito il suon della tromba, disse: Che vuol dire lo strepito della città, che è in tu­multo?
42 While he was stil speaking, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest arrived. 'Come in,' Adonijah said, 'youare an honest man, so you must be bringing good news.'	42 Mentre egli così diceva arrivò Gionata figliuolo di Abiathar Sacerdote, e dissegli Adonia: Vieni, perocché tu se' uomo di valore, e che porta buone novelle.
43 'The truth is,' Jonathan answered, 'our lord King David has made Solomon king.	43 No (rispose Gionata ad Adonia) perocchè il re David nostro signore ha ichiarato re Salomone:
44 With him, the king sent Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan, Benaiah son of Jehoiada and theCherethites and Pelethites; they mounted him on the king's mule,	44 E ha mandati con lui Sadoc Sa­cerdote, e Nathan profeta, e Banaia figliuolo di Joiada, e i Cerethei, e i Phelethei, e lo hanno messo sopra la mula del re.
45 and Zadok the priest and the prophet Nathan have anointed him king at Gihon; and they have goneback again with shouts of joy and the city is now in an uproar; that was the noise you heard.	45 E Sadoc Sacerdote, e Nathan profeta lo hanno unto in re a Gihon: e son partiti di là con alegria, onde la città romoreggia: questo è lo strepito udito da voi.
46 What is more, Solomon is seated on the royal throne.	46 Anzi Salomone già sede sul trono del regno.
47 And further, the king's officers have been to congratulate our lord King David with the words, "May yourGod make the name of Solomon more glorious than yours, and his throne more exalted than your own!" And theking bowed down on his bed,	47 E i servi del re sono andati a ral­legrarsi col re signor nostro David, di­cendo: Ingrandisca Dio il nome di Sa­lomone sopra lo stesso tuo nome, e in­nalzi il suo trono sopra lo stesso tuo trono. E il re ha adorato Dio nel suo letto:
48 and then said, "Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, for setting one of my own sons on the throne while Iam stil alive to see it!" '	48 E ha detto: Benedetto il Signore Dio d'Israele, il quale mi fa oggi ve­dere cogli occhi miei lui, che siede sopra il mio trono.
49 At this, all Adonijah's guests, taking fright, got up and made off in their several directions.	49 Quegli allora rimasero sbigotti­ti, e si alzarono tutti i convitati di Adonia, e se n' andarono ciascuno pe' fatti loro.
50 Adonijah, in terror of Solomon, got up and ran off to cling to the horns of the altar.	50 Ma Adonia avendo paura di Sa­lomone si partì, e andò a mettersi da un lato dell'altare.
51 Solomon was told, 'You should know that Adonijah is terrified of King Solomon and is now clinging tothe horns of the altar, saying, "Let King Solomon first swear to me that he will not have his servant executed." '	51 E fa riferito a Salomone, e fugli detto: Sappi, che Adonia avendo paura del re Salomone si è attaccato al corno dell'altare, e dice: Salomone mi fac­cia oggi giuramento, che non farà mo­rir di spada il suo servo.
52 'Should he bear himself honourably,' Solomon answered, 'not one hair of his shal fal to the ground;but if he proves difficult, he shal die.'	52 E Salomone disse: Se egli sarà uomo dabbene, non caderà in terra neppur uno de' suoi capelli: ma se ca­drò in qualche fallo, ei morrà.
53 King Solomon then sent for him to be brought down from the altar; he came and threw himselfprostrate before King Solomon; Solomon said to him, 'Go to your house.'	53 Salomone adunque mandò gente, che lo condusser via dall'altare; ed egli presentatosi al re Salomone, lo adorò: e Salomone gli disse: Va a casa tua.
