1 Kings 1

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 King David was now a very old man, and though wrapped in bedclothes he could not keep warm.	1 Le roi David était un vieillard avancé en âge; on lui mit des couvertures sans qu'il pût se réchauffer.
2 So his servants said to him, 'Let us find a young girl for my lord the king, to wait on the king and lookafter him; she wil lie close beside you and this wil keep my lord the king warm.'	2 Alors ses serviteurs lui dirent: "Qu'on cherche pour Monseigneur le roi une jeune fille qui assiste leroi et qui le soigne: elle couchera sur ton sein et cela tiendra chaud à Monseigneur le roi."
3 Having searched for a beautiful girl throughout the territory of Israel, they found Abishag of Shunem andbrought her to the king.	3 Ayant donc cherché une belle jeune fille dans tout le territoire d'Israël, on trouva Abishag de Shunemet on l'amena au roi.
4 The girl was very beautiful. She looked after the king and waited on him but the king did not haveintercourse with her.	4 Cette jeune fille était extrêmement belle; elle soigna le roi et le servit, mais il ne la connut pas.
5 Now Adonijah son of Haggith was growing pretentious and saying, 'I shal be king!' Accordingly, heprocured a chariot and team with fifty guards to run ahead of him.	5 Or Adonias, le fils de Haggit, jouait au prince en disant: "C'est moi qui régnerai!" il s'était procuréchar et attelage et 50 gardes qui couraient devant lui.
6 Never once in his life had his father crossed him by saying, 'Why are you behaving like that?' He wasvery handsome too; his mother had given birth to him after Absalom.	6 De sa vie, son père ne l'avait contrarié en disant: "Pourquoi agis-tu ainsi?" Il avait lui aussi très belleapparence et sa mère l'avait enfanté après Absalom.
7 He conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with the priest Abiathar, who both ral ied to Adonijah's cause;	7 Il s'aboucha avec Joab fils de Ceruya et avec le prêtre Ebyatar, qui se rallièrent à la cause d'Adonias;
8 but neither Zadok the priest, nor Benaiah son of Jehoiada, nor the prophet Nathan, nor Shimei and Rei,nor David's champions, supported Adonijah.	8 mais ni le prêtre Sadoq, ni Benayahu fils de Yehoyada, ni le prophète Natân, ni Shiméï et Reï, ni lespreux de David, n'étaient avec Adonias.
9 One day when Adonijah was sacrificing sheep, oxen and fattened calves at the Sliding Stone which isbeside the Ful er's Spring, he invited al his brothers, the royal princes, and al the men of Judah in the king'sservice;	9 Un jour qu'Adonias immolait des moutons, des boeufs et des veaux gras à la Pierre-qui-glisse, qui estprès de la source du Foulon, il invita tous ses frères, les princes royaux, et tous les Judéens au service du roi,
10 but he did not invite the prophet Nathan, or Benaiah, or the champions, or his brother Solomon.	10 mais il n'invita pas le prophète Natân, ni Benayahu, ni les preux, ni son frère Salomon.
11 Nathan then said to Bathsheba, Solomon's mother, 'Have you not heard that, unknown to our lordDavid, Adonijah son of Haggith has become king?	11 Alors Natân dit à Bethsabée, la mère de Salomon: "N'as-tu pas appris qu'Adonias fils de Haggit estdevenu roi à l'insu de notre seigneur David?
12 Wel , this is my advice to you if you want to save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.	12 Eh bien! laisse-moi te donner maintenant un conseil, pour que tu sauves ta vie et celle de ton filsSalomon.
13 Go straight in to King David and say, "My lord king, did you not make your servant this promise onoath: Your son Solomon is to be king after me; he is the one who is to sit on my throne? How is it, then, thatAdonijah is king?"	13 Va, entre chez le roi David, et dis-lui: N'est-ce pas toi, Monseigneur le roi, qui as fait ce serment à taservante; Ton fils Salomon régnera après moi et c'est lui qui s'assiéra sur mon trône? Comment donc Adoniasest-il devenu roi?
14 And while you are stil there talking to the king, I shal come in after you and confirm what you say.'	14 Et pendant que tu seras là, conversant encore avec le roi, j'entrerai après toi et j'appuierai tesparoles."
15 So Bathsheba went to the king in his room (he was very old and Abishag of Shunem was in attendanceon him).	15 Bethsabée se rendit chez le roi dans sa chambre (il était très vieux et Abishag de Shunem le servait).
16 She knelt, prostrated herself before the king, and the king said, 'What do you want?'	16 Elle s'agenouilla et se prosterna devant le roi, et le roi dit: "Que désires-tu?"
17 'My lord,' she replied, 'you swore to your servant by Yahweh your God, "Your son Solomon is to beking after me; he is the one who is to sit on my throne."	17 Elle lui répondit: "Monseigneur, tu as juré à ta servante par Yahvé ton Dieu: Ton fils Salomonrégnera après moi, et c'est lui qui s'assiéra sur mon trône.
18 And now here is Adonijah king, and you, my lord king, knowing nothing about it!	18 Voici maintenant qu'Adonias est devenu roi, et toi, Monseigneur le roi, tu n'en saurais rien!
19 He has sacrificed quantities of oxen, fattened calves and sheep, and invited all the royal princes, thepriest Abiathar, and Joab the army commander; but he has not invited your servant Solomon.	19 Car il a immolé quantité de boeufs, de veaux gras et de moutons, et il a invité tous les princesroyaux, le prêtre Ebyatar, le général Joab, mais ton serviteur Salomon, il ne l'a pas invité!
20 Yet you are the man, my lord king, to whom al Israel looks, to tel them who is to succeed my lord theking.	20 Pourtant c'est vers toi, Monseigneur le roi, que tout Israël regarde pour que tu lui désignes lesuccesseur de Monseigneur le roi.
21 And when my lord the king fal s asleep with his ancestors, Solomon and I shal be made to suffer forthis.'	21 Et quand Monseigneur le roi sera couché avec ses pères, moi et mon fils Salomon, nous expieronscela!"
22 She was stil speaking to the king when the prophet Nathan came in.	22 Elle parlait encore que le prophète Natân arriva.
23 The king was told, 'The prophet Nathan is here'; and he came into the king's presence and prostratedhimself on his face before the king.	23 On annonça au roi: "Le prophète Natân est là." Il entra chez le roi et se prosterna devant lui, la facecontre terre.
24 'My lord king,' said Nathan, 'is this, then, your decree, "Adonijah is to be king after me; he is the onewho is to sit on my throne"?	24 Natân dit: "Monseigneur le roi, tu as donc décrété: Adonias régnera après moi et s'assiéra sur montrône!
25 For he has gone down today and sacrificed quantities of oxen, fattened calves and sheep, and invitedal the royal princes, the army commanders, and the priest Abiathar; and they are there now, eating and drinkingin his presence and shouting, "Long live King Adonijah!"	25 Car il est descendu aujourd'hui, il a immolé quantité de boeufs, de veaux gras et de moutons et il ainvité tous les princes royaux, les officiers de l'armée et le prêtre Ebyatar; les voilà qui mangent et boivent en saprésence et qui crient: Vive le roi Adonias!
26 He has not, however, invited me your servant, Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, or yourservant Solomon.	26 Mais moi ton serviteur, le prêtre Sadoq, Benayahu fils de Yehoyada et ton serviteur Salomon, il nenous a pas invités.
27 Can it be that this is done with my lord the king's approval and that you have not told those loyal to youwho is to succeed to the throne of my lord the king?'	27 Se peut-il que la chose vienne de Monseigneur le roi et que tu n'aies pas fait savoir à tes fidèles quisuccéderait sur le trône à Monseigneur le roi?"
28 King David then spoke. 'Cal Bathsheba to me,' he said. And she came into the king's presence andstood before him.	28 Le roi David prit la parole et dit: "Appelez-moi Bethsabée." Elle entra chez le roi et se tint devantlui.
29 Then the king swore this oath, 'As Yahweh lives, who has delivered me from all adversity,	29 Alors le roi lui fit ce serment: "Par Yahvé vivant, qui m'a délivré de toutes les angoisses,
30 just as I swore to you by Yahweh, God of Israel, that your son Solomon should be king after me andtake my place on my throne, so I shal bring it about this very day.'	30 comme je t'ai juré par Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, que ton fils Salomon régnerait après moi et s'assiérait àma place sur le trône, ainsi ferai-je aujourd'hui même."
31 Bathsheba knelt down, prostrated herself on her face before the king and said, 'May my lord KingDavid live for ever!'	31 Bethsabée s'agenouilla, la face contre terre, se prosterna devant le roi et dit: "Vive à jamaisMonseigneur le roi David!"
32 Then King David said, 'Summon Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.'So they came into the king's presence.	32 Puis le roi David dit: "Appelez-moi le prêtre Sadoq, le prophète Natân et Benayahu fils deYehoyada." Ils entrèrent chez le roi
33 'Take the royal guard with you,' said the king, 'mount my son Solomon on my own mule and escort himdown to Gihon.	33 et celui-ci leur dit: "Prenez avec vous la garde royale, faites monter mon fils Salomon sur ma propremule et faites-le descendre à Gihôn.
34 There Zadok the priest and the prophet Nathan are to anoint him king of Israel; then sound the trumpetand shout, "Long live King Solomon!"	34 Là, le prêtre Sadoq et le prophète Natân lui donneront l'onction comme roi d'Israël, vous sonnerezdu cor et vous crierez: Vive le roi Salomon!
35 Then you are to escort him back, and he is then to assume my throne and be king in place of me, forhe is the man whom I have appointed as ruler of Israel and of Judah.'	35 Vous remonterez à sa suite, il entrera s'asseoir sur mon trône et régnera à ma place, car c'est lui quej'ai institué chef sur Israël et sur Juda."
36 Benaiah son of Jehoiada answered the king. 'Amen!' he said. 'And may Yahweh, God of my lord theking, confirm it!	36 Benayahu fils de Yehoyada répondit au roi: "Amen! Que parle ainsi Yahvé, le Dieu de Monseigneurle roi!
37 As Yahweh has been with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon and make his throne evengreater than the throne of my lord King David!'	37 Comme Yahvé a été avec Monseigneur le roi, qu'il soit avec Salomon et qu'il magnifie son trôneencore plus que le trône de Monseigneur le roi David!"
38 Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and Pelethitesthen went down; they mounted Solomon on King David's mule and escorted him to Gihon.	38 Le prêtre Sadoq, le prophète Natân, Benayahu fils de Yehoyada, les Kerétiens et les Pelétiensdescendirent; ils mirent Salomon sur la mule du roi et ils le menèrent à Gihôn.
39 Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the Tent and anointed Solomon. They sounded the trumpetand all the people shouted, 'Long live King Solomon!'	39 Le prêtre Sadoq prit dans la Tente la corne d'huile et oignit Salomon, on sonna du cor et tout lepeuple cria: "Vive le roi Salomon!"
40 The people al escorted him back, with pipes playing and loud rejoicing and shouts to split the earth.	40 Puis tout le peuple monta à sa suite, et le peuple jouait de la flûte et manifestait une grande joie,avec des clameurs à fendre la terre.
41 Adonijah and his guests, who had by then finished their meal, al heard the noise. Joab too heard thesound of the trumpet and said, 'What is that noise of uproar in the city?'	41 Adonias et tous ses convives entendirent le bruit; ils avaient alors fini de manger. Joab aussientendit le son du cor et demanda: "Pourquoi cette rumeur de la ville en émoi?"
42 While he was stil speaking, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest arrived. 'Come in,' Adonijah said, 'youare an honest man, so you must be bringing good news.'	42 Comme il parlait encore, voici qu'arriva Yonatân, le fils du prêtre Ebyatar, et Adonias dit: "Viens!car tu es un honnête homme et tu dois apporter une bonne nouvelle."
43 'The truth is,' Jonathan answered, 'our lord King David has made Solomon king.	43 Yonatân répondit: "Ah oui! notre seigneur le roi David a fait roi Salomon!
44 With him, the king sent Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan, Benaiah son of Jehoiada and theCherethites and Pelethites; they mounted him on the king's mule,	44 Le roi a envoyé avec lui le prêtre Sadoq, le prophète Natân, Benayahu fils de Yehoyada, lesKerétiens et les Pelétiens, ils l'ont mis sur la mule du roi,
45 and Zadok the priest and the prophet Nathan have anointed him king at Gihon; and they have goneback again with shouts of joy and the city is now in an uproar; that was the noise you heard.	45 le prêtre Sadoq et le prophète Natân l'ont sacré roi à Gihôn, ils sont remontés de là en poussant descris de joie et la ville est en émoi; voilà le bruit que vous avez entendu.
46 What is more, Solomon is seated on the royal throne.	46 Plus que cela: Salomon s'est assis sur le trône royal,
47 And further, the king's officers have been to congratulate our lord King David with the words, "May yourGod make the name of Solomon more glorious than yours, and his throne more exalted than your own!" And theking bowed down on his bed,	47 et les officiers du roi sont venus féliciter notre seigneur le roi David en disant: Que ton Dieu glorifiele nom de Salomon plus encore que ton nom et qu'il exalte son trône plus que le tien! et le roi s'est prosterné surson lit,
48 and then said, "Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, for setting one of my own sons on the throne while Iam stil alive to see it!" '	48 et puis il a parlé ainsi: Béni soit Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, qui a permis que mes yeux voient aujourd'huil'un de mes descendants assis sur mon trône."
49 At this, all Adonijah's guests, taking fright, got up and made off in their several directions.	49 Alors tous les invités d'Adonias furent pris de panique, ils se levèrent et partirent chacun de soncôté.
50 Adonijah, in terror of Solomon, got up and ran off to cling to the horns of the altar.	50 Pour Adonias, il eut peur de Salomon, il se leva et s'en alla saisir les cornes de l'autel.
51 Solomon was told, 'You should know that Adonijah is terrified of King Solomon and is now clinging tothe horns of the altar, saying, "Let King Solomon first swear to me that he will not have his servant executed." '	51 On en informa ainsi Salomon: "Voici qu'Adonias a eu peur du roi Salomon et qu'il a saisi les cornesde l'autel en disant: Que le roi Salomon me jure d'abord qu'il ne fera pas mourir son serviteur par l'épée."
52 'Should he bear himself honourably,' Solomon answered, 'not one hair of his shal fal to the ground;but if he proves difficult, he shal die.'	52 Salomon dit: "S'il se conduit en honnête homme, pas un de ses cheveux ne tombera à terre, mais sion le trouve en défaut, alors il mourra."
53 King Solomon then sent for him to be brought down from the altar; he came and threw himselfprostrate before King Solomon; Solomon said to him, 'Go to your house.'	53 Et Salomon ordonna qu'on le fit descendre de l'autel; il vint se prosterner devant Salomon qui luidit: "Va dans ta maison."
