1 King David was now a very old man, and though wrapped in bedclothes he could not keep warm.	1 - Il re Davide essendo diventato vecchio e molto avanzato negli anni per quanto si coprisse di vesti, non riusciva a scaldarsi.
2 So his servants said to him, 'Let us find a young girl for my lord the king, to wait on the king and lookafter him; she wil lie close beside you and this wil keep my lord the king warm.'	2 I suoi servi pertanto gli dissero: «Cerchiamo al re nostro Signore una giovinetta vergine che stia dinanzi al re e lo assista e dorma fra le sue braccia e riscaldi il re nostro signore».
3 Having searched for a beautiful girl throughout the territory of Israel, they found Abishag of Shunem andbrought her to the king.	3 Cercarono quindi in tutto il paese d'Israele una bella giovinetta e trovarono Abisag la Sunamita e la condussero al re.
4 The girl was very beautiful. She looked after the king and waited on him but the king did not haveintercourse with her.	4 La giovinetta era assai bella e dormiva col re e lo serviva; il re però non la conobbe.
5 Now Adonijah son of Haggith was growing pretentious and saying, 'I shal be king!' Accordingly, heprocured a chariot and team with fifty guards to run ahead of him.	5 Adonia figlio di Aggit, montato in superbia, diceva: «Io regnerò»; e si procurò dei carri, dei cavalieri e cinquanta uomini che corressero dinanzi a lui.
6 Never once in his life had his father crossed him by saying, 'Why are you behaving like that?' He wasvery handsome too; his mother had given birth to him after Absalom.	6 Suo padre non lo aveva mai rimproverato e non gli aveva detto mai: «Perchè fai questo?». Adonia era anche bellissimo d'aspetto ed era nato dopo Absalom.
7 He conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with the priest Abiathar, who both ral ied to Adonijah's cause;	7 Egli se la intendeva con Joab figlio di Sarvia e con Abiatar sacerdote, i quali sostenevano il suo partito.
8 but neither Zadok the priest, nor Benaiah son of Jehoiada, nor the prophet Nathan, nor Shimei and Rei,nor David's champions, supported Adonijah.	8 Invece il sacerdote Sadoc e Banaia figlio di Joiada e il profeta Natan e Semei e Rei e il nerbo delle milizie di Davide non stavano per Adonia.
9 One day when Adonijah was sacrificing sheep, oxen and fattened calves at the Sliding Stone which isbeside the Ful er's Spring, he invited al his brothers, the royal princes, and al the men of Judah in the king'sservice;	9 Avendo Adonia immolato arieti, vitelli, e grasse vittime d'ogni qualità presso la Pietra di Zoelet, che era vicina alla fontana di Rogel, chiamò tutti i suoi fratelli, figli del re e tutti gli uomini di Giuda, che erano al servizio del re;
10 but he did not invite the prophet Nathan, or Benaiah, or the champions, or his brother Solomon.	10 ma non invitò il profeta Natan, nè Banaia nè i valorosi guerrieri nè Salomone suo fratello.
11 Nathan then said to Bathsheba, Solomon's mother, 'Have you not heard that, unknown to our lordDavid, Adonijah son of Haggith has become king?	11 Perciò Natan disse a Betsabea madre di Salomone: «Non hai sentito dire che Adonia figlio di Aggit si è fatto re e Davide nostro Signore non ne sa nulla?
12 Wel , this is my advice to you if you want to save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.	12 Or dunque vieni, segui un mio consiglio e salva la vite a te e al figliuol tuo Salomone.
13 Go straight in to King David and say, "My lord king, did you not make your servant this promise onoath: Your son Solomon is to be king after me; he is the one who is to sit on my throne? How is it, then, thatAdonijah is king?"	13 Va', presentati al re Davide e digli: - Non hai tu, re mio signore, giurato a me tua ancella, dicendo: ''Salomone figliuol tuo regnerà dopo di me ed egli sederà sopra il mio trono? perchè regna adunque Adonia? " -
14 And while you are stil there talking to the king, I shal come in after you and confirm what you say.'	14 E quando tu ancora starai parlando col re, io entrerò dopo di te e completerò le tue parole».
15 So Bathsheba went to the king in his room (he was very old and Abishag of Shunem was in attendanceon him).	15 Entrò adunque Betsabea nella stanza del re; questi ormai era molto invecchiato, e Abisag la Sunamita gli prestava assistenza.
16 She knelt, prostrated herself before the king, and the king said, 'What do you want?'	16 Betsabea si inchinò e adorò il re. Il re le domandò: «Che vuoi?»,
17 'My lord,' she replied, 'you swore to your servant by Yahweh your God, "Your son Solomon is to beking after me; he is the one who is to sit on my throne."	17 e quella gli rispose: «Mio signore, tu giurasti alla tua ancella per il Signore Dio tuo: - Il tuo figlio Salomone regnerà dopo di me ed egli si assiderà sopra il mio trono -;
18 And now here is Adonijah king, and you, my lord king, knowing nothing about it!	18 ed ecco che ora Adonia regna, senza che tu, o re mio signore, lo sappia.
19 He has sacrificed quantities of oxen, fattened calves and sheep, and invited all the royal princes, thepriest Abiathar, and Joab the army commander; but he has not invited your servant Solomon.	19 Uccise buoi e ogni sorta di vittime pingui e moltissimi arieti e chiamò tutti i figli del re, perfino Abiatar sacerdote e Joab capo dell'esercito; non chiamò però Salomone tuo servo.
20 Yet you are the man, my lord king, to whom al Israel looks, to tel them who is to succeed my lord theking.	20 Tuttavia, o re mio signore, gli occhi di tutto Israele son rivolti verso di te, perchè tu gli dichiari chi dovrà sedere sul tuo trono dopo di te, o re mio signore.
21 And when my lord the king fal s asleep with his ancestors, Solomon and I shal be made to suffer forthis.'	21 Altrimenti avverrà che, quando il re mio signore si sarà addormentato coi padri suoi, io e il figliuol mio Salomone saremo ritenuti come delinquenti».
22 She was stil speaking to the king when the prophet Nathan came in.	22 Stava ancora parlando col re, quando il profeta Natan arrivò
23 The king was told, 'The prophet Nathan is here'; and he came into the king's presence and prostratedhimself on his face before the king.	23 e fu annunziato al re con queste parole: «È qui il profeta Natan». Entrato che fu Natan al cospetto del re, lo adorò inchinandosi fino a terra,
24 'My lord king,' said Nathan, 'is this, then, your decree, "Adonijah is to be king after me; he is the onewho is to sit on my throne"?	24 e disse: «O re, mio signore, fosti tu a dire: - Regni Adonia dopo di me e si assida sul mio trono? -
25 For he has gone down today and sacrificed quantities of oxen, fattened calves and sheep, and invitedal the royal princes, the army commanders, and the priest Abiathar; and they are there now, eating and drinkingin his presence and shouting, "Long live King Adonijah!"	25 poichè egli è disceso oggi ad immolare buoi, vittime grasse e moltissimi arieti e chiamò tutti i figli del re e i capi dell'esercito, come pure Abiatar sacerdote: e tra il mangiare e il bere dicono alla mia presenza: - Viva il re Adonia! -
26 He has not, however, invited me your servant, Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, or yourservant Solomon.	26 Ma non ha invitato me tuo servo, nè il sacerdote Sadoc, nè Banaia figlio di Joiada, nè Salomone tuo servo.
27 Can it be that this is done with my lord the king's approval and that you have not told those loyal to youwho is to succeed to the throne of my lord the king?'	27 Questa cosa è proprio avvenuta per ordine del re mio signore, e tu non hai voluto dichiarare al servo tuo chi si sarebbe seduto sul trono del re mio signore dopo di lui?».
28 King David then spoke. 'Cal Bathsheba to me,' he said. And she came into the king's presence andstood before him.	28 Il re Davide rispose: «Chiamatemi Betsabea». Come fu rientrata al cospetto del re e si fu messa a lui dinanzi,
29 Then the king swore this oath, 'As Yahweh lives, who has delivered me from all adversity,	29 il re giurò e disse: «Viva il Signore, che liberò la mia anima da ogni angustia;
30 just as I swore to you by Yahweh, God of Israel, that your son Solomon should be king after me andtake my place on my throne, so I shal bring it about this very day.'	30 poichè, come ho giurato a te per il Signore Dio d'Israele, dicendo: - Salomone tuo figlio regnerà dopo di me e si assiderà sul mio trono in mia vece, - così oggi farò».
31 Bathsheba knelt down, prostrated herself on her face before the king and said, 'May my lord KingDavid live for ever!'	31 Betsabea inchinò la faccia verso terra e adorò il re, dicendo: «Viva in eterno Davide, mio signore!».
32 Then King David said, 'Summon Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.'So they came into the king's presence.	32 Il re Davide aggiunse ancora: «Chiamatemi il sacerdote Sadoc e il profeta Natan e Banaia figlio di Joiada». Quando essi furono entrati al cospetto del re,
33 'Take the royal guard with you,' said the king, 'mount my son Solomon on my own mule and escort himdown to Gihon.	33 disse loro: «Prendete con voi i servi del vostro padrone, fate salire Salomone mio figlio sulla mia mula e conducetelo a Gion,
34 There Zadok the priest and the prophet Nathan are to anoint him king of Israel; then sound the trumpetand shout, "Long live King Solomon!"	34 e là il sacerdote Sadoc e il profeta Natan lo ungano re d'Israele. Sonerete quindi la tromba e direte: - Viva il re Salomone! -
35 Then you are to escort him back, and he is then to assume my throne and be king in place of me, forhe is the man whom I have appointed as ruler of Israel and of Judah.'	35 Salirete poi dietro a lui ed egli verrà ad assidersi sopra il mio trono e regnerà in mia vece; io gli comanderò di essere il condottiere di Israele e di Giuda».
36 Benaiah son of Jehoiada answered the king. 'Amen!' he said. 'And may Yahweh, God of my lord theking, confirm it!	36 Banaia figlio di Joiada così rispose al re: «Così sia; allo stesso modo parli anche Iddio Signore del mio padrone il re.
37 As Yahweh has been with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon and make his throne evengreater than the throne of my lord King David!'	37 Come il Signore assistette il mio padrone il re, così assista Salomone e innalzi il trono di lui al di sopra del trono del re Davide mio signore».
38 Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and Pelethitesthen went down; they mounted Solomon on King David's mule and escorted him to Gihon.	38 Discesero adunque il sacerdote Sadoc, il profeta Natan, Banaia figlio di Joiada, i Ceretei e i Feletei; e fatto montare Salomone sulla mula del re Davide, lo condussero a Gion,
39 Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the Tent and anointed Solomon. They sounded the trumpetand all the people shouted, 'Long live King Solomon!'	39 dove il sacerdote Sadoc, preso l'olio del corno del tabernacolo, unse Salomone. Datosi quindi fiato alla tromba, tutto il popolo esclamò: «Viva il re Salomone!».
40 The people al escorted him back, with pipes playing and loud rejoicing and shouts to split the earth.	40 Dopo di che salì dietro a lui tutta la moltitudine e il popolo a suono di flauti e fra la più grande allegria, e la terra rimbombava alle loro acclamazioni.
41 Adonijah and his guests, who had by then finished their meal, al heard the noise. Joab too heard thesound of the trumpet and said, 'What is that noise of uproar in the city?'	41 Lo strepito fu udito da Adonia e da tutti quelli che erano stati invitati da lui. Il banchetto era già finito. Anche Joab all'udire il suono della tromba disse: «Che cosa significa questo strepito della città tumultuante?».
42 While he was stil speaking, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest arrived. 'Come in,' Adonijah said, 'youare an honest man, so you must be bringing good news.'	42 Parlava ancora quando Jonata figlio del sacerdote Abiatar si fece innanzi. Voltosi a lui, Adonia disse: «Entra, poichè tu sei un uomo di valore e porti buone notizie».
43 'The truth is,' Jonathan answered, 'our lord King David has made Solomon king.	43 Ma Jonata rispose ad Adonia: «No, poichè il re Davide nostro signore ha costituito re Salomone;
44 With him, the king sent Zadok the priest, the prophet Nathan, Benaiah son of Jehoiada and theCherethites and Pelethites; they mounted him on the king's mule,	44 e ha mandato con lui il sacerdote Sadoc e il profeta Natan e Banaia figlio di Joiada e i Ceretei e i Feletei, i quali l'hanno fatto montare sopra la mula del re.
45 and Zadok the priest and the prophet Nathan have anointed him king at Gihon; and they have goneback again with shouts of joy and the city is now in an uproar; that was the noise you heard.	45 E il sacerdote Sadoc e il profeta Natan lo hanno unto re in Gion. Di là poi fra la più grande esultanza ascesero tutti e la città ne risuonò. Questo è il rumore che avete inteso.
46 What is more, Solomon is seated on the royal throne.	46 Di più Salomone fu fatto sedere sul trono regale,
47 And further, the king's officers have been to congratulate our lord King David with the words, "May yourGod make the name of Solomon more glorious than yours, and his throne more exalted than your own!" And theking bowed down on his bed,	47 ed entrati i servi del re hanno bene augurato al re Davide nostro signore, dicendo: - Renda Iddio il nome di Salomone più glorioso del nome tuo e innalzi il trono di lui al di sopra del tuo trono. - Ed il re si è prosternato sul suo letto
48 and then said, "Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, for setting one of my own sons on the throne while Iam stil alive to see it!" '	48 e ha detto: -Benedetto il Signore Dio d'Israele che mi ha dato oggi uno che segga sopra il mio trono e mi ha permesso di vederlo coi miei occhi-».
49 At this, all Adonijah's guests, taking fright, got up and made off in their several directions.	49 Atterriti allora tutti quelli che erano stati invitati da Adonia, si alzarono e se ne andò ciascuno pei fatti suoi;
50 Adonijah, in terror of Solomon, got up and ran off to cling to the horns of the altar.	50 mentre Adonia per paura di Salomone si alzò e andò a stringersi al corno dell'altare.
51 Solomon was told, 'You should know that Adonijah is terrified of King Solomon and is now clinging tothe horns of the altar, saying, "Let King Solomon first swear to me that he will not have his servant executed." '	51 E vennero a dire a Salomone: «Adonia per paura del re Salomone si è stretto al corno dell'altare e dice: -Mi giuri il re Salomone oggi che non ucciderà colla spada il suo servo -».
52 'Should he bear himself honourably,' Solomon answered, 'not one hair of his shal fal to the ground;but if he proves difficult, he shal die.'	52 Salomone disse: «Se sarà un uomo dabbene, non cadrà in terra neppur uno dei suoi capelli; ma se in lui si troverà del male, morrà».
53 King Solomon then sent for him to be brought down from the altar; he came and threw himselfprostrate before King Solomon; Solomon said to him, 'Go to your house.'	53 Il re Salomone allora mandò [gente] a farlo allontanare dall'altare e [Adonia] venuto alla presenza del re, adorò Salomone e Salomone gli disse: «Va', a casa tua».
