1 Two years later it happened that Pharaoh had a dream: there he was, standing by the Nile,	1 Al cabo de dos años. Faraón soñó que se encontraba parado a la vera del río.
2 and there, coming up from the Nile, were seven cows, sleek and fat, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.	2 De pronto suben del río siete vacas hermosas y lustrosas que se pusieron a pacer en el carrizal.
3 And then seven other cows, wretched and lean, came up from the Nile, behind them; and these wentover and stood beside the other cows on the bank of the Nile.	3 Pero he aquí que detrás de aquéllas subían del río otras siete vacas, de mal aspecto y macilentas, las cuales se pararon cabe las otras vacas en la margen del río,
4 The wretched and lean cows ate the seven sleek and fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up.	4 y las vacas de mal aspecto y macilentas se comieron a las siete vacas hermosas y lustrosas. Entonces Faraón se despertó.
5 He fel asleep and dreamed a second time: there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, fulland ripe.	5 Y vuelto a dormirse soñó otra vez que siete espigas crecían en una misma caña, lozanas y buenas.
6 And then sprouting up, behind them, came seven ears of grain, meagre and scorched by the eastwind.	6 Pero he aquí que otras siete espigas flacas y asolanadas brotaron después de aquéllas
7 The scanty ears of grain swal owed the seven ful and ripe ears of grain. Then Pharaoh woke up; ithad been a dream.	7 y las espigas flacas consumieron a las siete lozanas y llenas. Despertó Faraón, y he aquí que era un sueño.
8 In the morning Pharaoh, feeling disturbed, had all the magicians and wise men of Egypt summoned tohim. Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was no one to interpret it for Pharaoh.	8 Aquella mañana estaba inquieto su espíritu y envió a llamar a todos los magos y a todos los sabios de Egipto. Faraón les contó su sueño, pero no hubo quien se lo interpretara a Faraón.
9 Then the chief cup-bearer addressed Pharaoh, 'Today, I recal having been at fault.	9 Entonces el jefe de escanciadores habló a Faraón diciéndole: «Hoy me acuerdo de mi yerro.
10 When Pharaoh was angry with his servants, he put myself and the chief baker in custody in thehouse of the commander of the guard.	10 Faraón se había enojado contra sus siervos y me había puesto bajo custodia en casa del jefe de los guardias a mí y al jefe de panaderos.
11 We had a dream on the same night, he and I, and each man's dream had a meaning for himself.	11 Entonces tuvimos sendos sueños en una misma noche, tanto yo como él, cada uno con su sentido propio.
12 There was a young Hebrew with us, one of the slaves belonging to the commander of the guard. Wetold our dreams to him and he interpreted them for us, tel ing each of us what his dream meant.	12 Había allí con nosotros un muchacho hebreo, siervo del jefe de los guardias. Le contamos nuestro sueño, y él nos dio el sentido propio de cada cual.
13 It turned out exactly according to his interpretation: I was restored to my position, but the other manwas hanged.'	13 Y resultó que según nos lo había interpretado, así fue: A mí me restituyó Faraón en mi puesto, y a él le colgó.»
14 Then Pharaoh had Joseph summoned, and they hurried him from the dungeon. He shaved andchanged his clothes, and presented himself before Pharaoh.	14 Faraón mandó llamar a José y le sacaron del pozo con premura, se afeitó y mudó de vestido y compareció ante Faraón.
15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I have had a dream, and there is no one to interpret it. But I have heard itsaid of you that you can interpret a dream the instant you hear it.'	15 Dijo Faraón a José: «He tenido un sueño y no hay quien lo interprete, pero he oído decir de ti que te basta oír un sueño para interpretarlo.»
16 'Not I,' Joseph replied to Pharaoh, 'God wil give Pharaoh a favourable answer.'	16 Respondió José a Faraón: «No hablemos de mí, que Dios responda en buena hora a Faraón.»
17 So Pharaoh told Joseph, 'In my dream there I was, standing on the bank of the Nile.	17 Y refirió Faraón a José su sueño: «Resulta que estaba yo parado a la orilla del río,
18 And there were seven cows, fat and sleek, coming up out of the Nile, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.	18 cuando de pronto suben del río siete vacas lustrosas y de hermoso aspecto, las cuales pacían en el carrizal.
19 And then seven other cows came up, behind them, starved, very wretched and lean; I have neverseen such poor cows in all Egypt.	19 Pero he aquí que otras siete vacas subían detrás de aquéllas, de muy ruin y mala catadura y macilentas, que jamás vi como aquéllas en toda la tierra de Egipto, de tan malas.
20 The lean and wretched cows ate up the first seven fat cows.	20 Y las siete vacas macilentas y malas se comieron a las siete vacas primeras, las lustrosas.
21 But when they had eaten them up, it was impossible to tel they had eaten them, for they looked aswretched as ever. Then I woke up.	21 Pero una vez que las tuvieron dentro, ni se conocía que las tuviesen, pues su aspecto seguía tan malo como al principio. Entonces me desperté,
22 And then again in my dream, there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, beautiful y ripe;	22 y volví a ver en sueños cómo siete espigas crecían en una misma caña, henchidas y buenas.
23 but then sprouting up behind them came seven ears of grain, withered, meagre and scorched by theeast wind.	23 Pero he aquí que otras siete espigas secas, flacas y asolanadas, brotaban después de aquéllas
24 Then the shrivel ed ears of grain swal owed the seven ripe ears of grain. I have told the magicians,but no one has given me the answer.'	24 y consumieron las espigas flacas a las siete espigas hermosas. Se lo he dicho a los magos, pero no hay quien me lo explique.»
25 Joseph said to Pharaoh, 'Pharaoh's dreams are one and the same: God has revealed to Pharaohwhat he is going to do.	25 José dijo a Faraón: «El sueño de Faraón es uno solo: Dios anuncia a Faraón lo que va a hacer.
26 The seven fine cows are seven years and the seven ripe ears of grain are seven years; it is one andthe same dream.	26 Las siete vacas buenas son siete años de abundancia y las siete espigas buenas, siete años son: porque el sueño es uno solo.
27 The seven gaunt and lean cows coming up behind them are seven years, as are the seven shrivel edears of grain scorched by the east wind: there wil be seven years of famine.	27 Y las siete vacas macilentas y malas que subían después de aquéllas, son siete años; e igualmente las siete espigas flacas y asolanadas, es que habrá siete años de hambre.
28 It is as I have told Pharaoh: God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is going to do.	28 Esto es lo que yo he dicho a Faraón. Lo que Dios va a hacer lo ha mostrado a Faraón.
29 Seven years are coming, bringing great plenty to the whole of Egypt,	29 He aquí que vienen siete años de gran hartura en todo Egipto.
30 but seven years of famine will fol ow them, when al the plenty in Egypt wil be forgotten, and faminewil exhaust the land.	30 Pero después sobrevendrán otros siete años de hambre y se olvidará toda la hartura en Egipto, pues el hambre asolará el país,
31 The famine that is to fol ow wil be so very severe that no one wil remember what plenty the countryused to enjoy.	31 y no se conocerá hartura en el país, de tanta hambre como habrá.
32 The reason why Pharaoh had the same dream twice is that the event is already determined by God,and God wil shortly bring it about.	32 Y el que se haya repetido el sueño de Faraón dos veces, es porque la cosa es firme de parte de Dios, y Dios se apresura a realizarla.
33 'Pharaoh should now find someone intel igent and wise to govern Egypt.	33 Ahora, pues, fíjese Faraón en algún hombre inteligente y sabio, y póngalo al frente de Egipto.
34 Pharaoh should take action and appoint supervisors for the country, and impose a tax of one-fifth onEgypt during the seven years of plenty.	34 Hágalo así Faraón: ponga encargados al frente del país y exija el quinto a Egipto durante los siete años de abundancia.
35 They wil col ect al the food produced during these good years that are coming, and store the grainunder Pharaoh's authority, putting it in the towns and keeping it.	35 Ellos recogerán todo el comestible de esos años buenos que vienen, almacenarán el grano a disposición de Faraón en las ciudades, y lo guardarán.
36 This food wil form a reserve for the country against the seven years of famine which are coming onEgypt, so that the country wil not be destroyed by the famine.'	36 De esta forma quedarán registradas las reservas de alimento del país para los siete años de hambre que habrá en Egipto, y así no perecerá el país de hambre.»
37 Pharaoh and all his ministers approved of what he had said.	37 Pareció bien el discurso a Faraón y a todos sus servidores,
38 Then Pharaoh asked his ministers, 'Can we find anyone else endowed with the spirit of God, likehim?'	38 y dijo Faraón a sus servidores: «¿Acaso se encontrará otro como éste que tenga el espíritu de Dios?»
39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Since God has given you knowledge of al this, there can be no one asintelligent and wise as you.	39 Y dijo Faraón a José: «Después de haberte dado a conocer Dios todo esto, no hay entendido ni sabio como tú.
40 You shall be my chancel or, and al my people shall respect your orders; only this throne shal set meabove you.'	40 Tú estarás al frente de mi casa, y de tu boca dependerá todo mi pueblo. Tan sólo el trono dejaré por encima de ti.»
41 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I hereby make you governor of the whole of Egypt.'	41 Dijo Faraón a José: «Mira: te he puesto al frente de todo el país de Egipto.»
42 Pharaoh took the ring from his hand and put it on Joseph's. He dressed him in robes of fine linen andput a gold chain round his neck.	42 Y Faraón se quitó el anillo de la mano y lo puso en la mano de José, le hizo vestir ropas de lino fino y le puso el collar de oro al cuello,
43 He made him ride in the best chariot he had after his own, and they shouted 'Abrek!' ahead of him.Thus he became governor of the whole of Egypt.	43 luego le hizo montar en su segunda carroza, e iban gritando delante de él: «¡Abrek!» Así le puso al frente de todo el país de Egipto.
44 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Although I am Pharaoh, no one is to move hand or foot without yourpermission throughout Egypt.'	44 Dijo Faraón a José: «Yo, Faraón: sin tu licencia no levantará nadie mano ni pie en todo Egipto.»
45 Pharaoh named Joseph Zaphenath-Paneah, and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest ofOn, to be his wife. And Joseph began to journey al over Egypt.	45 Faraón llamó a José Safnat Panéai y le dio por mujer a Asnat, hija de Poti Fera, sacerdote de On. Y salió José con autoridad sobre el país de Egipto.
46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. After leavingPharaoh's presence, Joseph travel ed throughout the length and breadth of Egypt.	46 Tenía José treinta años cuando compareció ante Faraón, rey de Egipto, y salió José de delante de Faraón, y recorrió todo Egipto.
47 During the seven years of plenty, the soil yielded generously.	47 La tierra produjo con profusión durante los siete años de abundancia
48 He col ected al the food of the seven years while there was an abundance in Egypt, and stored thefood in the towns, placing in each the food from the surrounding countryside.	48 y él hizo acopio de todos los víveres de los siete años en que hubo hartura en Egipto poniendo en cada ciudad los víveres de la campiña circundante.
49 Joseph gathered in grain like the sand of the sea, in such quantity that he gave up keeping count,since it was past accounting.	49 José recolectó grano como la arena del mar, una enormidad, hasta tener que desistir de contar porque era innumerable.
50 Before the year of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph: Asenath daughter of Potiphera,priest of On, bore him these.	50 Antes que sobreviniesen los años de hambre, le nacieron a José dos hijos que le dio Asnat, la hija de Poti Fera, sacerdote de On.
51 Joseph named the first-born Manasseh, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me completely forget myhardships and my father's House.'	51 Llamó José al primogénito Manasés, porque - decía - «Dios me ha hecho olvidar todo mi trabajo y la casa de mi padre,»
52 He named the second Ephraim, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me fruitful in the country of mymisfortune.'	52 y al segundo le llamó Efraím, porque - decía - «me ha hecho fructificar Dios en el país de mi aflicción».
53 Then the seven years of plenty that there had been in Egypt came to an end,	53 Concluyéronse los siete años de hartura que hubo en Egipto,
54 and the seven years of famine set in, as Joseph had predicted. There was famine in every country,but throughout Egypt there was food.	54 y empezaron a llegar los siete años de hambre como había predicho José. Hubo hambre en todas las regiones; pero en todo Egipto había pan.
55 But when al Egypt too began to feel the famine and the people appealed to Pharaoh for food,Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, 'Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you.'	55 Toda la tierra de Egipto sintió también hambre, y el pueblo clamó a Faraón pidiendo pan. Y dijo Faraón a todo Egipto: «Id a José: haced lo que él os diga.»
56 There was famine all over the world. Then Joseph opened al the granaries and rationed out grain tothe Egyptians, as the famine grew even worse in Egypt.	56 - El hambre cundió par toda la haz de la tierra. - Entonces José sacó todas las existencias y abasteció de grano a Egipto. Arreciaba el hambre en Egipto;
57 People came to Egypt from al over the world to get supplies from Joseph, for the famine had grownsevere throughout the world.	57 de todos los países venían también a Egipto para proveerse comprando grano a José, porque el hambre cundía por toda la tierra.
