1 Abraham left there for the region of the Negeb, and settled between Kadesh and Shur. While stayingin Gerar,	1 E partitosi di colà Abramo, andando nel paese di mezzodì, abitò tra Cades e Sur: e fece sua dimora come pellegrino in Gerara.
2 Abraham said of his wife Sarah, 'She is my sister,' and Abimelech the king of Gerar had Sarahbrought to him.	2 E riguardo a Sara sua moglie disse: Ella è mia sorella. Mandò dunque il re di Gerara Abimelech a pigliarla.
3 But God visited Abimelech in a dream one night. 'You are to die,' he told him, 'because of the womanyou have taken, for she is a married woman.'	3 Ma Dio si fe' vedere di notte tempo in sogno ad Abimelech, e dissegli: Or tu morrai per ragion della donna, che hai rapita: perocché ella ha marito.
4 Abimelech, however, had not gone near her; so he said, 'Lord, would you kil someone even if he isupright?	4 Abimelech però non l'avea toccata, e disse: Signore, farai tu perire una nazione ignorante, ma giusta?
5 Did he not tel me himself, "She is my sister"? And she herself said, "He is my brother." I did this with a clear conscience and clean hands.'	5 Non mi ha detto egli stesso: Ella è mia sorella: e non ha ella detto: Egli è mio fratello? Io ho fatta tal cosa nella semplicità del mio cuore, e ho pure le mani.
6 'Yes, I know,' God replied in the dream, 'that you did this with a clear conscience and I myselfprevented you from sinning against me. That was why I did not let you touch her.	6 E il Signore gli disse: Io pur so, che tal cosa hai fatta con cuor semplice: e per questo ti ho preservato dal peccare contro di me; e non ho permesso, che tu la toccassi.
7 Now send the man's wife back; for he is a prophet and can intercede on your behalf for your life. Butunderstand that if you do not send her back, this means death for you and al yours.'	7 Rendi adunque adesso la moglie al suo marito; perocché egli è profeta: ed egli farà orazione per te, e tu vivrai: ma se tu non vorrai renderla, sappi, che di mala morte morrai tu, e tutto quello che a te appartiene.
8 Early next morning, Abimelech summoned his ful court and told them the whole story, at which thepeople were very much afraid.	8 E tosto si alzò Abimelech di notte tempo, e chiamò tutti i suoi servi; e raccontò loro tutte queste cose, e tutti ebbero gran paura.
9 Then summoning Abraham, Abimelech said to him, 'What have you done to us? What wrong have Idone you, for you to bring such guilt on me and on my kingdom? You had no right to treat me like this.'	9 E Abimelech chiamò anche Abramo, e gli disse: Che è quello che tu ci hai fatto? che male ti abbiam fatto noi, che tu avessi a tirare addosso a me, e al mio regno un peccato grande? tu hai fatto a noi quello che far non dovevi.
10 Abimelech then said to Abraham, 'What possessed you to do such a thing?'	10 E di nuovo rammaricandosi disse: Che avevi tu veduto, onde avessi a fare tal cosa?
11 'Because', Abraham replied, 'I thought there would be no fear of God here and that I should be kil edfor the sake of my wife.	11 Rispose Abramo: Io pensai, e dissi dentro di me: Forse non sarà in questo luogo timor di Dio; e mi uccideranno a causa di mia moglie.
12 Anyway, she real y is my sister, my father's daughter though not my mother's, besides being my wife.	12 Dall'altra parte ella è veramente ancora mia sorella; figliuola di mio padre, ma non di mia madre, ed io la presi per moglie.
13 So when God made me wander far from my father's home I said to her, "There is an act of love youcan do me: everywhere we go, say of me that I am your brother." '	13 Ma dopo che Dio mi trasse fuora dalla casa di mio padre, io le dissi: Tu mi farai questa grazia: in qualunque luogo noi arriveremo, dirai, che sei mia sorella.
14 Abimelech took sheep, cattle, men and women slaves, and presented them to Abraham, and gavehim back his wife Sarah.	14 Prese adunque Abimelech delle pecore, e de' bovi, e de' servi, e delle serve, e le diede ad Abramo, e gli rendette Sara sua moglie,
15 And Abimelech said, 'Look, my land is open to you. Settle wherever you please.'	15 E gli disse: Questa terra è davanti a te; dimora, dove ti piacerà.
16 To Sarah he said, 'Look, I am giving your brother a thousand pieces of silver. This wil al aysuspicions about you, as far as al the people round you are concerned; you have been completely vindicated.'	16 E disse a Sara: Ecco che io ho dato a tuo fratello mille monete d'argento; con queste avrai un velo per gli occhi dinanzi a tutti quelli che son con te, e in qualunque luogo anderai: e ricordati, che sei stata presa.
17 Abraham then interceded with God, and God healed Abimelech, his wife and his slave-girls, so thatthey could have children,	17 E colle orazioni di Abramo Dio risanò Abimelech, e la moglie, e le serve di lui, e partorirono:
18 for Yahweh had made al the women of Abimelech's household barren on account of Sarah,Abraham's wife.	18 Imperocché il Signore avea rendute sterili tutte le donne della casa di Abimelech a motivo di Sara moglie d'Abramo.
