NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
The Presbyter to the chosen Lady and to her children whom I love in truth--and not only I but also all who know the truth--1 The ancient to the lady Elect, and her children, whom I love in the truth, and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth,
because of the truth that dwells in us and will be with us forever.2 For the sake of the truth which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father's Son in truth and love.3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace from God the Father, and from Christ Jesus the Son of the Father; in truth and charity.
I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth just as we were commanded by the Father.4 I was exceeding glad, that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
But now, Lady, I ask you, not as though I were writing a new commandment but the one we have had from the beginning: let us love one another.5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as writing a new commandment to thee, but that which we have had from the beginning, that we love one another.
For this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, as you heard from the beginning, in which you should walk.6 And this is charity, that we walk according to his commandments. For this is the commandment, that, as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in the same:
Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh; such is the deceitful one and the antichrist.7 For many seducers are gone out into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh: this is a seducer and an antichrist.
Look to yourselves that you do not lose what we worked for but may receive a full recompense.8 Look to yourselves, that you lose not the things which you have wrought: but that you may receive a full reward.
Anyone who is so "progressive" as not to remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God; whoever remains in the teaching has the Father and the Son.9 Whosoever revolteth, and continueth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that continueth in the doctrine, the same hath both the Father and the Son.
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him in your house or even greet him;10 If any man come to you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into the house nor say to him, God speed you.
for whoever greets him shares in his evil works.11 For he that saith unto him, God speed you, communicateth with his wicked works.
Although I have much to write to you, I do not intend to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and to speak face to face so that our joy may be complete.12 Having more things to write unto you, I would not by paper and ink: for I hope that I shall be with you, and speak face to face: that your joy may be full.
The children of your chosen sister send you greetings.13 The children of thy sister Elect salute thee.
