1 After Ehud's death, however, the Israelites again offended the LORD.	1 I figli di Israele, quando Ehud morì, continuarono a fare ciò che è male agli occhi di Jahvè
2 So the LORD allowed them to fall into the power of the Canaanite king, Jabin, who reigned in Hazor. The general of his army was Sisera, who dwelt in Harosheth-ha-goiim.	2 e Jahvè li consegnò nelle mani di Jabin re di Canaan, che regnava in Khazor, e del capo del suo esercito, Sisara, che abitava a Kharoshet-Goim.
3 But the Israelites cried out to the LORD; for with his nine hundred iron chariots he sorely oppressed the Israelites for twenty years.	3 Allora i figli di Israele levarono grida a Jahvè, poiché quegli aveva novecento carri ferrati e aveva oppresso i figli di Israele duramente per vent’anni.
4 At this time the prophetess Deborah, wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel.	4 In quel tempo Debora, una profetessa, moglie di Lappidot, giudicava Israele.
5 She used to sit under Deborah's palm tree, situated between Ramah and Bethel in the mountain region of Ephraim, and there the Israelites came up to her for judgment.	5 Essa sedeva sotto la palma di Debora tra Rama e Bethel sulla montagna di Efraim; i figli di Israele andavano da lei per i giudizi.
6 She sent and summoned Barak, son of Abinoam, from Kedesh of Naphtali. "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, commands," she said to him; "go, march on Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand Naphtalites and Zebulunites.	6 Essa mandò a chiamare Barak figlio di Abinoam, da Kadesh di Neftali, e gli disse: «Ecco ciò che comanda Jahvè, Dio di Israele: “Su, marcia in direzione del monte Tabor e prendi con te diecimila uomini tra i figli di Neftali e di Zabulon.
7 I will lead Sisera, the general of Jabin's army, out to you at the Wadi Kishon, together with his chariots and troops, and will deliver them into your power."	7 Io attirerò verso di te al torrente Kishon Sisara, capo dell’esercito di Jabin, con i suoi carri e le sue truppe e lo consegnerò nelle tue mani”».
8 But Barak answered her, "If you come with me, I will go; if you do not come with me, I will not go."	8 Barak le rispose: «Se tu vieni con me, andrò; ma se tu non vieni con me, non andrò».
9 "I will certainly go with you," she replied, "but you shall not gain the glory in the expedition on which you are setting out, for the LORD will have Sisera fall into the power of a woman." So Deborah joined Barak and journeyed with him to Kedesh.	9 «Bene, verrò con te» gli soggiunse essa, «però nella via in cui cammini l’onore non sarà per te, perché Jahvè consegnerà Sisara nelle mani di una donna». Allora Debora si alzò e andò con Barak a Kadesh,
10 Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and ten thousand men followed him. Deborah also went up with him.	10 dove Barak convocò Zabulon e Neftali: diecimila uomini lo seguirono e Debora partì con lui.
11 Now the Kenite Heber had detached himself from his own people, the descendants of Hobab, Moses' brother-in-law, and had pitched his tent by the tere-binth of Zaanannim, which was near Kedesh.	11 Ora, Kheber il Kenita si era separato da Kain dei figli di Khobab suocero di Mosè, e aveva piantato la tenda presso la quercia di Zaannaim, vicino a Kadesh.

13 So Sisera assembled from Harosheth-ha-goiim at the Wadi Kishon all nine hundred of his iron chariots and all his forces.	13 Allora Sisara radunò tutti i suoi carri — novecento carri ferrati — e tutta la gente che era con lui da Kharoshet-Goim al torrente Kishon.
14 Deborah then said to Barak, "Be off, for this is the day on which the LORD has delivered Sisera into your power. The LORD marches before you." So Barak went down Mount Tabor, followed by his ten thousand men.	14 Debora disse a Barak: «Muoviti, poiché questo è il giorno in cui Jahvè ha consegnato Sisara nelle tue mani. Jahvè non marcia forse innanzi a te?» Allora Barak discese dal monte Tabor seguito dai diecimila uomini.
15 And the LORD put Sisera and all his chariots and all his forces to rout before Barak. Sisera himself dismounted from his chariot and fled on foot.	15 Jahvè mise in scompiglio Sisara con tutti i carri e tutto l'esercito innanzi a Barak. Sisara, disceso dal carro, fuggì a piedi.
16 Barak, however, pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth-ha-goiim. The entire army of Sisera fell beneath the sword, not even one man surviving.	16 Barak inseguì i carri e l’esercito ino a Kharoshet-Goim. Tutto l’esercito di Sisara fu finito a fil di spada e non uno rimase salvo.
17 Sisera, in the meantime, had fled on foot to the tent of Jael, wife of the Kenite Heber, since Jabin, king of Hazor, and the family of the Kenite Heber were at peace with one another.	17 Intanto Sisara fuggiva a piedi in direzione della tenda di -Jael moglie di Kheber il Kenita: poiché C’era pace tra Jabin re di Khazor e la casa di Kheber il Kenita.
18 Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, "Come in, my lord, come in with me; do not be afraid." So he went into her tent, and she covered him with a rug.	18 Jael andò incontro a Sisara e gli disse: «Volgi i tuoi passi, mio signore, volgi i tuoi passi verso di me, non temere!» Egli si diresse da lei nella tenda; la donna lo coprì con un tappeto.
19 He said to her, "Please give me a little water to drink. I am thirsty." But she opened a jug of milk for him to drink, and then covered him over.	19 Egli le disse: «Dammi un po’ di acqua da bere, perché ho sete». Essa aprì l’otre del latte e gli diede da bere, poi lo ricoprì.
20 "Stand at the entrance of the tent," he said to her. "If anyone comes and asks, 'Is there someone here?' say, 'No!'"	20 «Sta all’ingresso della tenda» le disse ancora «e, se arriva qualcuno che ti domanda: “C'è qui un uomo?”, risponderai: «“No”».
21 Instead Jael, wife of Heber, got a tent peg and took a mallet in her hand. While Sisera was sound asleep, she stealthily approached him and drove the peg through his temple down into the ground, so that he perished in death.	21 Ma Jael, moglie di Kheber, afferrò un piolo della tenda, prese in mano un martello e, accostatasi a lui pian piano, gli cacciò il piolo nella tempia, tanto che si infisse nella terra. Egli era addormentato profondamente e sfinito; così morì.
22 Then when Barak came in pursuit of Sisera, Jael went out to meet him and said to him, "Come, I will show you the man you seek." So he went in with her, and there lay Sisera dead, with the tent peg through his temple.	22 Intanto, ecco Barak che inseguiva Sisara. Jael gli andò incontro e «Vieni» gli disse «ti mostrerò l’uomo che tu cerchi». Egli entrò da lei e vide Sisara che giaceva morto, con il piolo nella tempia.
23 Thus on that day God humbled the Canaanite king, Jabin, before the Israelites;	23 Così in quel giorno Dio umiliò Jabin, re di Canaan, innanzi ai figli di Israele.
24 their power weighed ever heavier upon him, till at length they destroyed the Canaanite king, Jabin.	24 La mano dei figli di Israele andò facendosi sempre più pesante su Jabin, re di Canaan, finché non ebbero eliminato Jabin, re di Canaan.
