NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
But understand this: there will be terrifying times in the last days.1 Hoc autem scito, quod in no vissimis diebus instabunt tem pora periculosa.
People will be self-centered and lovers of money, proud, haughty, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, irreligious,2 Erunt enim homines seipsos amantes, cupidi, elati, superbi, blasphemi, parentibus inoboedientes, ingrati, scelesti,
callous, implacable, slanderous, licentious, brutal, hating what is good,3 sine affectione, sine foedere, criminatores, incontinentes, immites, sine benignitate,
traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,4 proditores, protervi, tumidi, voluptatum amatores magis quam Dei,
as they make a pretense of religion but deny its power. Reject them.5 habentes speciem quidem pietatis, virtutem autem eius abnegantes; et hos devita.
For some of these slip into homes and make captives of women weighed down by sins, led by various desires,6 Ex his enim sunt, qui penetrant domos et captivas ducunt mulierculas oneratas peccatis, quae ducuntur variis concupiscentiis,
always trying to learn but never able to reach a knowledge of the truth.7 semper discentes et numquam ad scientiam veritatis pervenire valentes.
Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so they also oppose the truth--people of depraved mind, unqualified in the faith.8 Quemadmodum autem Iannes et Iambres restiterunt Moysi, ita et hi resistunt veritati, homines corrupti mente, reprobi circa fidem;
But they will not make further progress, for their foolishness will be plain to all, as it was with those two.9 sed ultra non proficient, insipientia enim eorum manifesta erit omnibus, sicut et illorum fuit.
You have followed my teaching, way of life, purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance,10 Tu autem assecutus es meam doctrinam, institutionem, propositum, fidem, longanimitatem, dilectionem, patientiam,
persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra, persecutions that I endured. Yet from all these things the Lord delivered me.11 persecutiones, passiones, qualia mihi facta sunt Antiochiae, Iconii, Lystris, quales persecutiones sustinui; et ex omnibus me eripuit Dominus.
In fact, all who want to live religiously in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.12 Et omnes, qui volunt pie vivere in Christo Iesu, persecutionem patientur;
But wicked people and charlatans will go from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived.13 mali autem homines et seductores proficient in peius, in errorem mittentes et errantes.
But you, remain faithful to what you have learned and believed, because you know from whom you learned it,14 Tu vero permane in his, quae didicisti et credita sunt tibi, sciens a quibus didiceris,
and that from infancy you have known (the) sacred scriptures, which are capable of giving you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.15 et quia ab infantia Sacras Litteras nosti, quae te possunt instruere ad salutem per fidem, quae est in Christo Iesu.
All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness,16 Omnis Scriptura divinitus inspirata est et utilis ad docendum, ad arguendum, ad corrigendum, ad erudiendum in iustitia,
so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work.17 ut perfectus sit homo Dei, ad omne opus bonum instructus.
