"I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.1 If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; as I also have kept my Father's commandments, and do abide in his love.
He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.2 dummy verses inserted by amos
You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.3 dummy verses inserted by amos
Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.4 dummy verses inserted by amos
I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.5 dummy verses inserted by amos
Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned.6 dummy verses inserted by amos
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.7 dummy verses inserted by amos
By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.8 dummy verses inserted by amos
As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love.9 dummy verses inserted by amos
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.10 dummy verses inserted by amos
"I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be filled.
This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.12 This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you.
No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.13 Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you.14 You are my friends, if you do the things that I command you.
I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.15 I will not now call you servants: for the servant knoweth not what his lord doth. But I have called you friends: because all things whatsoever I have heard of my Father, I have made known to you.
It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.16 You have not chosen me: but I have chosen you; and have appointed you, that you should go, and should bring forth fruit; and your fruit should remain: that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
This I command you: love one another.17 These things I command you, that you love one another.
"If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.18 If the world hate you, know ye, that it hath hated me before you.
If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.19 If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
Remember the word I spoke to you, 'No slave is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.20 Remember my word that I said to you: The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.
And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.21 But all these things they will do to you for my name's sake: because they know not him who sent me.
If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin; but as it is they have no excuse for their sin.22 If I had not come, and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.
Whoever hates me also hates my Father.23 He that hateth me, hateth my Father also.
If I had not done works among them that no one else ever did, they would not have sin; but as it is, they have seen and hated both me and my Father.24 If I had not done among them the works that no other man hath done, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.
But in order that the word written in their law might be fulfilled, 'They hated me without cause.'25 But that the word may be fulfilled which is written in their law: They hated me without cause.
"When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me.26 But when the Paraclete cometh, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from the Father, he shall give testimony of me.
And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.27 And you shall give testimony, because you are with me from the beginning.
