Zechariah 7

1 In the fourth year of Darius the king (the word of the LORD came to Zechariah), on the fourth day of Chislev, the ninth month,	1 Nel quarto anno del re Dario, nel quarto giorno del nono mese, che è Casleu, la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Zaccaria.
2 Bethelsarezer sent Regemmelech and his men to implore favor of the LORD	2 Allora avevan mandato alla casa di Dio Sarasar, Rogomelec e gli uomini che eran con lui, per pregare dinanzi al Signore,
3 and to ask the priests of the house of the LORD of hosts, and the prophets, "Must I mourn and abstain in the fifth month as I have been doing these many years?"	3 e per interrogare i sacerdoti della casa del Signore degli eserciti e i profeti, con queste parole: « Devo piangere il quinto mese, o devo purificarmi, come ho già fatto per molti anni? »
4 Thereupon this word of the LORD of hosts came to me:	4 La parola del Signore degli eserciti mi fu rivolta in questi termini:
5 Say to all the people of the land and to the priests: When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month these seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted?	5 « Parla a tutto il popolo del paese, e ai sacerdoti, e di' loro: — Quando voi digiunaste e piangeste il quinto e il settimo mese in questi settanta anni, faceste forse per me il vostro digiuno?
6 And when you were eating and drinking, was it not for yourselves that you ate, and for yourselves that you drank?	6 E quando avete mangiato e bevuto, non avete forse mangiato e bevuto, per conto vostro?
7 Were not these the words which the LORD spoke through the former prophets, when Jerusalem and the surrounding cities were inhabited and at peace, when the Negeb and the foothills were inhabited?	7 Non son forse queste le parole dette dal Signore per mezzo degli antichi profeti, quando Gerusalemme era piena di popolo e di ricchezze, essa e le città circonvicine, quando erano abitate le parti del mezzogiorno e le pianure? »
8 (This word of the LORD came to Zechariah:	8 E la parola del Signore fu indirizzata a Zaccaria in questi termini:
9 Thus says the LORD of hosts:) Render true judgment, and show kindness and compassion toward each other.	9 « Così parla il Signore degli eserciti, dicendo: Giudicate secondo la verità, usate misericordia e compassione, ciascuno verso il suo fratello,
10 Do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the alien or the poor; do not plot evil against one another in your hearts.	10 e guardatevi dall'opprimer la vedova e l'orfano, il forestiero e il povero, e nessuno pensi nel suo cuore a far del male al fratello ».
11 But they refused to listen; they stubbornly turned their backs and stopped their ears so as not to hear.	11 Ma essi non vollero dar retta, voltarono lo ribelli spalle, e ingrossarono l'udito per non intendere.
12 And they made their hearts diamondhard so as not to hear the teaching and the message that the LORD of hosts had sent by his spirit through the former prophets.	12 E resero il loro cuore come il diamante, per non ascoltare la legge e lo parole che il Signore degli eserciti, per mezzo del suo spirito, aveva messe in bocca agli antichi profeti; e ne venne la grande ira del Signore degli eserciti.
13 Then the LORD of hosts in his great anger said that, as they had not listened when he called, so he would not listen when they called,	13 E avvenne: « Siccome alle parole non han dato ascolto, essi grideranno, ed io non li esaudirò, — dice il Signore degli eserciti, — ne li ho dispersi per tutti i regni, loro ignoti, e, senza di essi, la terra è stata desolata, non essendoci chi andasse e venisse ». Così una terra di delizie l'han ridotta a un deserto.
14 but would scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations that they did not know. Thus the land was left desolate after them with no one traveling to and fro; they made the pleasant land into a desert.
