1 In the fourth year of Darius the king (the word of the LORD came to Zechariah), on the fourth day of Chislev, the ninth month,	1 La quatrième année du roi Darius, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Zacharie, le quatrième jour du neuvième mois (c’est le mois de Kisleu).
2 Bethelsarezer sent Regemmelech and his men to implore favor of the LORD	2 La ville de Béthel avait envoyé Saréser avec ses hommes pour supplier Yahvé
3 and to ask the priests of the house of the LORD of hosts, and the prophets, "Must I mourn and abstain in the fifth month as I have been doing these many years?"	3 et pour poser cette question aux prêtres de la Maison de Yahvé et aux prophètes: “Devons-nous pleurer au cinquième mois et faire des pénitences comme nous l’avons fait durant tant d’années?”
4 Thereupon this word of the LORD of hosts came to me:	4 Alors cette parole de Yahvé Sabaot me fut adressée:
5 Say to all the people of the land and to the priests: When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month these seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted?	5 “Tu diras ceci à tous les résidents et aux prêtres: Lorsque vous avez jeûné et pleuré au cinquième et au septième mois durant 70 ans, était-ce moi qui vous faisais jeûner?
6 And when you were eating and drinking, was it not for yourselves that you ate, and for yourselves that you drank?	6 C’est vous qui choisissiez de jeûner, ou de boire et de manger.
7 Were not these the words which the LORD spoke through the former prophets, when Jerusalem and the surrounding cities were inhabited and at peace, when the Negeb and the foothills were inhabited?	7 “Sans doute avez-vous oublié les paroles que Yahvé faisait dire aux anciens prophètes, lorsque Jérusalem était habitée et prospère, ainsi que les villes d’alentour, lorsque le Négueb et le Bas-Pays étaient habités.

9 Thus says the LORD of hosts:) Render true judgment, and show kindness and compassion toward each other.	9 “Voici ce que disait Yahvé Sabaot: ‘Rendez la justice avec droiture, pratiquez la bonté et la miséricorde les uns envers les autres.
10 Do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the alien or the poor; do not plot evil against one another in your hearts.	10 N’opprimez ni la veuve, ni l’orphelin, ni l’étranger, ni le pauvre; ne cherchez pas à vous faire du mal les uns aux autres.’
11 But they refused to listen; they stubbornly turned their backs and stopped their ears so as not to hear.	11 “Mais vos pères ont refusé d’écouter, refusé d’obéir; ils ont fait la sourde oreille.
12 And they made their hearts diamondhard so as not to hear the teaching and the message that the LORD of hosts had sent by his spirit through the former prophets.	12 Ils se sont fait un cœur de pierre pour ne pas écouter cet enseignement et ces paroles que Yahvé Sabaot proclamait par la voix des prophètes d’autrefois. Alors la colère de Yahvé Sabaot s’est déchaînée:
13 Then the LORD of hosts in his great anger said that, as they had not listened when he called, so he would not listen when they called,	13 ‘Puisque vous n’avez pas écouté quand Yahvé appelait, maintenant il ne vous écoutera pas quand vous l’appellerez - parole de Yahvé Sabaot.’
14 but would scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations that they did not know. Thus the land was left desolate after them with no one traveling to and fro; they made the pleasant land into a desert.	14 “Je les ai donc emportés comme fait l’ouragan et dispersés parmi les nations qu’ils ne connaissaient pas. Et derrière eux le pays est resté ravagé, inhabité: d’une terre fertile ils ont fait un désert.”
