Zechariah 7

1 In the fourth year of Darius the king (the word of the LORD came to Zechariah), on the fourth day of Chislev, the ninth month,	1 - L'anno quarto del re Dario, la parola del Signore fu comunicata a Zaccaria, ai quattro del nono mese, cioè di Casleu.
2 Bethelsarezer sent Regemmelech and his men to implore favor of the LORD	2 E Sarasar con Rogommelec e gli uomini che erano con lui, avevano mandato alla casa di Dio, per propiziare la faccia del Signore;
3 and to ask the priests of the house of the LORD of hosts, and the prophets, "Must I mourn and abstain in the fifth month as I have been doing these many years?"	3 e per interrogare i sacerdoti della casa del Signore degli eserciti e i profeti dicendo: «Debbo io fare il lutto nel quinto mese e praticare l'astinenza, come ho fatto già per molti anni?».
4 Thereupon this word of the LORD of hosts came to me:	4 E la parola del Signore mi fu comunicata dicendomi:
5 Say to all the people of the land and to the priests: When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month these seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted?	5 «Parla a tutto il popolo del paese e ai sacerdoti e dirai loro: - Quando avete fatto il digiuno e il lutto nel quinto e nel settimo mese durante questi settanta anni, avete voi forse digiunato per me?
6 And when you were eating and drinking, was it not for yourselves that you ate, and for yourselves that you drank?	6 E quando avete mangiato e bevuto, non avete forse mangiato e bevuto per voi?
7 Were not these the words which the LORD spoke through the former prophets, when Jerusalem and the surrounding cities were inhabited and at peace, when the Negeb and the foothills were inhabited?	7 Non sono forse parole queste che il Signore ha già detto per mezzo dei profeti anteriori a me, quando Gerusalemme era tuttora gremita di abitanti e nella prosperità e con essa le città dei suoi dintorni e il mezzodì e le pianure erano abitate? -».
8 (This word of the LORD came to Zechariah:	8 E la parola del Signore fu comunicata a Zaccaria dicendogli:
9 Thus says the LORD of hosts:) Render true judgment, and show kindness and compassion toward each other.	9 «Il Signore degli eserciti ha detto così: - Praticate la giustizia secondo la verità, usate misericordia e compatimento vicendevole col prossimo.
10 Do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the alien or the poor; do not plot evil against one another in your hearts.	10 E non fate torto alla vedova e all'orfano, al forestiero e al povero; non vi sia chi medita il male in suo cuore contro il fratello!
11 But they refused to listen; they stubbornly turned their backs and stopped their ears so as not to hear.	11 Ma essi non hanno voluto dar retta, e voltarono dispettosamente le spalle, e fecero le orecchie sorde per non intendere.
12 And they made their hearts diamondhard so as not to hear the teaching and the message that the LORD of hosts had sent by his spirit through the former prophets.	12 E il loro cuore duro come il diamante, si ostinò a non voler ascoltare la legge e le parole che il Signore degli eserciti aveva indirizzato loro nel suo Spirito, mediante i profeti antichi; e grande fu lo sdegno del Signore degli eserciti.
13 Then the LORD of hosts in his great anger said that, as they had not listened when he called, so he would not listen when they called,	13 E poichè quando parlò, essi non vollero dargli ascolto, avverrà che essi chiameranno, ma io non darò ascolto, dice il Signore degli eserciti.
14 but would scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations that they did not know. Thus the land was left desolate after them with no one traveling to and fro; they made the pleasant land into a desert.	14 Quindi li dispersi per tutti i regni che essi non conoscevano; e la terra rimase nella desolazione, perchè non c'era più chi andasse, nè chi venisse; e così una terra di delizie fu ridotta in un deserto-».
