1 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,
2 As for you, son of man, utter a lament over Tyre,	2 'Son of man, raise the lament for Tyre.
3 and say to Tyre that is situated at the approaches of the sea, that brought the trade of the peoples to many a coastland: Thus says the Lord GOD: Tyre, you said, "I am a ship, perfect in beauty."	3 Say to Tyre, "City enthroned at the gateway of the sea, agent between the peoples and the manyislands, Lord Yahweh says this: Tyre, you used to say: I am a ship perfect in beauty.
4 In the midst of the sea your builders placed you, perfected your beauty.	4 Your frontiers were far out to sea; those who built you made you perfect in beauty.
5 With cypress from Senir they built for you all of your decks; Cedar from Lebanon they took to make you a mast;	5 Cypress from Senir they used for al your planking. They took a cedar from Lebanon to make a mastabove you.
6 From the highest oaks of Bashan they made your oars; Your bridge they made of cypress wood from the coasts of Kittim.	6 From oaks of Bashan they made your oars. They built you a deck of cedar inlaid with ivory from theKittim isles.
7 Fine embroidered linen from Egypt became your sail (to serve you as a banner). Purple and scarlet from the coasts of Elishah covered your cabin.	7 Embroidered linen from Egypt was used for your sail and for your flag. Purple and scarlet from theElishah islands formed your deck-tent.
8 Citizens of Sidon and Arvad served as your oarsmen; Skilled men of Zemer were in you to be your mariners;	8 The people of Sidon and Arvad were your oarsmen. The sages of Tyre were aboard, serving assailors.
9 The elders and experts of Gebal were in you to caulk your seams. Every ship and sailor on the sea came to you to carry trade.	9 The elders and craftsmen of Gebal were there to caulk your seams. "Every sea-going ship and crewfrequented you to guarantee your trade.
10 Persia and Lud and Put were in your army as warriors; shield and helmet they hung upon you, increasing your splendor.	10 Men from Persia, Lud and Put served as warriors in your army; hanging up shield and helmet in you,they displayed your splendour.
11 The men of Arvad were all about your walls, and the Gamadites were in your towers; they hung their bucklers all around on your walls, and made perfect your beauty.	11 The sons of Arvad with their army manned your wal s al round, while the Gammadians manned yourtowers; hanging their shields al round your walls, they completed your beauty.
12 Tarshish traded with you, so great was your wealth, exchanging silver, iron, tin, and lead for your wares.	12 Tarshish traded with you because of your abundant resources and exchanged your merchandise forsilver, iron, tin and lead.
13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were also traders with you, exchanging slaves and articles of bronze for your goods.	13 Javan, Tubal and Meshech traded with you. For your merchandise they traded slaves and bronzeartefacts.
14 From Beth-togarmah horses, steeds, and mules were exchanged for your wares.	14 The people of Beth-Togarmah traded your horses, chargers, mules.
15 The Rhodanites trafficked with you; many coastlands traded with you; ivory tusks and ebony wood they gave you for payment.	15 The people of Dedan traded with you; many islands were your customers and paid you in ivory tusksand ebony.
16 Edom traded with you, so many were your products, exchanging garnets, purple, embroidered cloth, fine linen, coral, and rubies for your wares.	16 Edom traded with you for the sake of your many manufactured goods, exchanging garnets, purple,embroideries, fine linen, coral and rubies for your goods.
17 Judah and the land of Israel trafficked with you, exchanging Minnith wheat, figs, honey, oil, and balm for your goods.	17 Judah and the land of Israel also traded with you, bringing corn from Minnith, pannag, honey, oil andbalm.
18 Damascus traded with you, so great was your wealth, exchanging Helbon wine and Zahar wool.	18 Damascus traded with you, for quantities of your manufactured goods and other goods of al kinds,furnishing you with wine from Helbon and wool from Zahar.
19 Javan exchanged wrought iron, cassia, and aromatic cane from Uzal for your wares.	19 Dan and Javan, from Uzal onwards, supplied you with wrought iron, cassia and reeds in exchangefor your goods.
20 Dedan traded with you for riding gear.	20 Dedan traded with you in saddle-cloths.
21 The trade of Arabia and of all the sheikhs of Kedar belonged to you; they dealt in lambs, rams, and goats.	21 Arabia and al the sheikhs of Kedar were your customers; they paid in lambs, rams and he-goats.
22 The merchants of Sheba and Raamah also traded with you, exchanging for your wares the very choicest spices, all kinds of precious stones, and gold.	22 The merchants of Sheba and Raamah traded with you; they supplied you with the finest spices,precious stones and gold for your merchandise.
23 Haran, Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad	23 Haran, Canneh and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur and Chilmad traded with you.
24 traded with you, marketing with you rich garments, violet mantles, embroidered cloth, varicolored carpets, and firmly woven cords.	24 They traded rich clothes, embroidered and purple cloaks, multi-coloured materials and strong plaitedcords for your markets.
25 Ships of Tarshish journeyed for you in your merchandising. You were full and heavily laden in the heart of the sea.	25 Ships of Tarshish sailed on your business; you were ful and heavily loaded far out to sea.
26 Through the deep waters your oarsmen brought you home, But the east wind smashed you in the heart of the sea.	26 Out to the open sea your oarsmen rowed you. The east wind has wrecked you far out to sea.
27 Your wealth, your goods, your wares, your sailors, and your crew, (the caulkers of your seams, those who traded for your goods, all your warriors who were in you, and all the great crowd within you) Sank into the heart of the sea on the day of your shipwreck.	27 Your riches, your goods, your cargo, your seamen, your sailors, your caulkers, your commercialagents, all the warriors you carry, and al the passengers who are aboard wil founder far out to sea on the day ofyour shipwreck.
28 Hearing the shouts of your mariners, the shores begin to quake.	28 When they hear the cries of your sailors the coasts wil tremble.
29 Down from their ships come all who ply the oar; The sailors, all the mariners of the sea, stand on the shore,	29 Then the oarsmen will al desert their ships. The sailors and seafaring people wil stay ashore.
30 Making their voice heard on your behalf, shouting bitter cries, Strewing dust on their heads, rolling in the ashes.	30 They will raise their voices for you and weep bitterly. They wil throw dust on their heads and roll inashes;
31 For you they shave their heads and put on sackcloth, For you they weep in anguish, with bitter lament.	31 they wil shave their heads for you and put sackcloth round their waists. With heartfelt bitterness theywil weep for you, bitterly wail.
32 In their mourning they utter a lament over you; thus they wail over you: Who was ever destroyed like Tyre in the midst of the sea?	32 Wailing, they will raise the lament for you, they wil lament over you: Who is like Tyre, far out to sea?
33 With your goods which you drew from the seas you filled many peoples; With your great wealth and merchandise you enriched the kings of the earth.	33 When you unloaded your goods to satisfy so many peoples, you enriched the kings of the earth withyour excess of wealth and goods.
34 Now you are wrecked in the sea, in the watery depths; Your wares and all your crew have gone down with you.	34 Now you have been wrecked by the waves, by the depths of the sea. Your cargo and all yourpassengers have foundered with you.
35 All who dwell on the coastlands are aghast over you, Their kings are terrified, their faces convulsed.	35 Al those who live in the islands wil be stunned at your fate. Their kings wil quake with horror, withdowncast expressions.
36 The traders among the peoples now hiss at you; You have become a horror, and you shall be no more.	36 The merchants of the nations wil whistle at your fate. You wil be an object of terror, gone for ever." '
