1 Concerning the Ammonites, thus says the LORD: Has Israel no sons? has he no heir? Why then has Milcom disinherited Gad, why have his people settled in Gad's cities?	1 - AI FIGLI DI AMMON. - Così dice il Signore: «Forsechè Israele non ha figliuoli, o non ha eredi? Perchè dunque Melcom si tiene in possesso Gad, e col suo popolo ha occupate le città di lui?
2 But the days are coming, says the LORD, when against Rabbah of the Ammonites I will sound the battle alarm; She shall become a mound of ruins, and her daughter cities shall be destroyed by fire. Israel shall inherit those who disinherited her, says the LORD.	2 Perciò, ecco verrà tempo, dice il Signore, che sopra Rabat, metropoli dei figli di Ammon, io farò risonare il fragore della battaglia, essa sparirà sotto un mucchio di rovine, e le città sue figliuole saranno arse, e Israele rioccuperà la signoria sopra i suoi occupatori, dice il Signore.
3 Howl, Heshbon, for the ravager approaches, shriek, daughters of Rabbah! Put on sackcloth and mourn, run to and fro, gashing yourselves; For Milcom goes into exile along with his priests and captains.	3 Urla, o Hesebon, perchè Ai è stata devastata; gridate, o figlie di Rabat, indossate i cilizi, piangenti aggiratevi lunghesso le siepi, perchè Melcom sarà condotto in esilio, con tutti i suoi sacerdoti e i suoi principi insieme.
4 Why do you glory in your strength, your ebbing strength, rebellious daughter? You who trust in your treasures, saying, "Who can come against me?"	4 Perchè decanti tanto le tue vallate? La tua valle rimase dilavata, figlia delicata, che confidavi nelle tue riserve e dicevi: - Chi verrà fino a me? -
5 I am bringing terror upon you, says the Lord GOD of hosts, from all round about you; You shall be scattered, each man in headlong flight, with no one to rally the fugitives.	5 Ecco che io farò venire sopra di te lo spavento, dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti, che ti farò incutere da tutti quelli che sono nel tuo circuito, e sarete dispersi ciascuno incontro a se stesso senza più nessuno che raccolga i fuggitivi.
6 But afterward I will change the lot of the Ammonites, says the LORD.	6 E dopo questo farò rimpatriare gli esiliati dei figli di Ammon», dice il Signore.
7 Concerning Edom, thus says the LORD of hosts: Is there no more wisdom in Teman, has counsel perished from the prudent, has their wisdom become corrupt?	7 ALL'IDUMEA. - Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: «Come, non c'è più sapienza in Teman? Ai figli è mancato il consiglio e la loro sapienza è diventata inutile.
8 Flee, retreat, hide in deep holes, you who live in Dedan: For I will bring destruction upon Esau when I come to punish him.	8 Fuggite, volgete le spalle, rintanatevi nel fondo d'una voragine, o abitanti di Dedan; perchè io ho condotto sopra Esaù la sua rovina, il tempo della sua visita.
9 If vintagers came upon you, they would leave no gleanings; If thieves by night, they would destroy as they pleased.	9 Se i vendemmiatori fossero penetrati, non ti avrebbero lasciato qualche ciocca d'uva? Se fossero stati i ladri di notte, avrebbero rubato tanto da soddisfarsi.
10 So I myself will strip Esau; I will uncover his retreats so that he cannot hide. He is ruined: sons, and brothers, and neighbors, so that he is no more.	10 Io invece ho spogliato Esaù, ho messo allo scoperto i suoi nascondigli e celarsi più non potrà; la sua stirpe è stata sterminata, coi suoi fratelli e i suoi vicini, essa più non sarà.
11 Leave your orphans behind, I will keep them alive; your widows, let them trust in me.	11 Lascia in abbandono i tuoi orfani, io li farò vivere, e le tue vedove troveranno la loro speranza in me».
12 For thus says the LORD: Even those not sentenced to drink the cup must drink it! Shall you then go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished; you shall surely drink it.	12 Perchè, così dice il Signore: «Ecco che quelli che non avevano la condanna di bere il calice, devono bere, e tu come innocente sarai risparmiato? No, non sarai risparmiato come innocente, ma berrai, berrai anche tu.
13 By my own self I have sworn, says the LORD: Bozrah shall become an object of horror and a disgrace, a desolation and a curse; she and all her cities shall become ruins forever.	13 Perchè l'ho giurato per me stesso, dice il Signore, che Bosra sarà ridotta in solitudine, in contumelia, in deserto e in maledizione, e tutte le sue città resteranno ruderi abbandonati per sempre!».
14 I have heard a report from the LORD, a herald has been sent among the nations: Gather together, move against her, rise up for battle.	14 Un bando fu per me udito dal Signore e un messaggio è stato mandato alle genti: «Chiamate a raccolta e venite contro di essa, sorgiamo alla battaglia!».
15 Small will I make you among the nations, despised among men!	15 «Ecco che io ti ho fatto piccolo tra le nazioni, spregevole nella stima degli uomini.
16 The terror you spread beguiled you, and your presumption of heart; You that live in rocky crags, that hold the heights of the hill: Though you build your nest high as the eagle, from there I will drag you down, says the LORD.	16 La tua arroganza ti ha ingannato e l'alterigia del tuo cuore; tu che abiti nei recessi delle rocce, e tenti di aggrapparti alle cime dei colli, quand'anche avessi collocato il tuo nido, com'aquila, sublime, ti strapperò giù, dice il Signore.
17 Edom shall become an object of horror. Every passer-by shall be appalled and catch his breath at all her wounds.	17 E l'Idumea resterà deserta; chiunque passerà per di là, resterà stupito e fischierà inorridito sopra le sue sciagure.
18 As when Sodom, Gomorrah, and their neighbors were overthrown, says the LORD, not a man shall dwell there: no one shall visit there.	18 Così come sono state sovvertite Sodoma e Gomorra e le città vicine, dice il Signore; non vi abiterà più alcun uomo, nessuna creatura umana avrà in essa la sua dimora.
19 As when a lion comes up from the thicket of Jordan to the permanent feeding grounds, So I, in an instant, will drive men off; and whom I choose I will establish there! For who is like me? who can call me to account? What shepherd can stand against me?	19 Ecco, come leone, salirà dalla maestosità del Giordano agli ameni contrafforti; perchè io lo spingerò di corsa, d'un lancio sopra di essa; e chi sarà l'eletto che designerò a suo capo? Chi è simile a me? chi può competere meco e quale è quel pastore che possa reggere di fronte a me?».
20 Therefore, hear the counsel of the LORD, which he has taken against Edom; Hear the plans he has made against those that live in Teman: They shall be dragged away, even the smallest sheep, their own pasture shall be aghast because of them.	20 Perciò udite il disegno che ha formato il Signore contro Edom, e il pensiero che ha risoluto contro gli abitanti di Teman: «Vedrete se i piccoli agnelletti non li cozzeranno, se non meneranno il guasto su di essi e sulla loro abitazione!
21 At the noise of their fall the earth quakes, to the Red Sea the outcry is heard!	21 Alla voce della loro caduta ha tremato la terra, l'eco della loro voce ha risonato fino al Mar Rosso.
22 See! like an eagle he soars aloft, and spreads his wings over Bozrah; On that day the hearts of Edom's heroes shall be like the heart of a woman in travail.Concerning Damascus:	22 Eccolo, come aquila, che sale e drizza il volo e dispiega l'ali sopra Bosra; e avverrà che il cuore dei prodi dell'Idumea, in quel giorno, sarà come il cuore d'una donna sopra parto».
23 Hamath and Arpad are covered with shame, they have heard bad news; Worried, they toss like the sea which cannot rest.	23 A DAMASCO. - «Emat e Arfad sono nella costernazione, una tristissima nuova hanno udito e hanno il cuore in tempesta, senza potere nella loro ambascia trovar calma.
24 Damascus is weakened, she turns to flee, panic has seized her. Distress and pangs take hold of her, like those of a woman in travail.	24 Damasco è in isfacelo, si è voltata alla fuga, sopraffatta dal terrore, spasimi e dolori l'hanno sorpresa, come una partoriente.
25 How can the city of glory be forsaken, the town of delight!	25 Ah, come hanno abbandonato la città tanto decantata, la metropoli della delizia!
26 But now her young men shall fall in her streets, and all her warriors shall be stilled. On that day, says the LORD of hosts,	26 Perciò i suoi giovani cadranno sulle loro piazze e tutti i suoi uomini di guerra taceranno in quel giorno, dice il Signore degli eserciti.
27 I will set fire to the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.	27 E io farò avvampare un fuoco nel muro di Damasco e divorerà le mura di Benadad».
28 Of Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, defeated by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, thus says the LORD: Rise up, attack Kedar, ravage the Easterners.	28 A Cedar e ai Regni d'Asor che furon percossi da Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia. - Così dice il Signore: «Sorgete e avanzate contro Cedar e date il guasto ai figli dell'oriente!
29 Their tents and herds shall be taken away, their tent curtains and all their goods; Their camels they shall carry off for themselves, and shout from upon them, "Terror on every side!"	29 Prenderanno i loro padiglioni e le loro greggi, le tende e tutti i loro arredi, si porteranno via i loro cammelli, e spargeranno il grido del terrore d'ogni intorno.
30 Flee! leave your homes, hide in deep holes, you that live in Hazor, says the LORD; For counsel has been taken against you, a plan has been formed against you (Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon).	30 Fuggite, scappate precipitosamente, rimpiattatevi nelle caverne, o abitanti di Asor, dice il Signore, perchè Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, ha deliberato contro di voi un consiglio e ha preso contro di voi le sue risoluzioni!
31 Rise up! set out against a nation that is at peace, that lives secure, says the LORD, That has no gates or bars, and dwells alone.	31 Sorgete e marciate contro la nazione tranquilla e che dimora in tutta sicurezza dice il Signore, senza porte nè saracinesche, appartata da tutti.
32 Their camels shall be your booty, their many herds your spoil; I will scatter to the winds those who shave their temples, from all sides I will bring ruin upon them, says the LORD.	32 E i loro cammelli saranno rapiti, e la moltitudine dei loro armenti predata, e disperderò a tutti i venti quelle teste schiomate e da tutti i loro confini condurrò su di essi la rovina, dice il Signore.
33 Hazor shall become a haunt of jackals, a desert forever, Where no man lives, no human being stays.	33 E Asor diventerà l'abitazione delle fiere, deserto per sempre; non resterà ivi alcun uomo nè creatura umana vi dimorerà».
34 The following word of the LORD against Elam came to the prophet Jeremiah at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah:	34 La parola del Signore che fu comunicata a Geremia profeta contro l'Elam, in principio del regno di Sedecia re di Giuda, e gli disse:
35 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might.	35 «Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: - Ecco che io infrangerò l'arco d'Elam, il nerbo capitale della loro potenza.
36 I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the four ends of the heavens: I will scatter them to all these winds, till there is no nation to which the outcasts of Elam shall not come.	36 E scatenerò contro l'Elam i quattro venti dai quattro canti del cielo, e lo darò in balìa a tutti questi venti, e non vi sarà nazione dove non arrivino i fuggiaschi di Elam.
37 I will break Elam before their foes, before those who seek their life; I will bring evil upon them, my burning wrath, says the LORD. I will send the sword to pursue them until I have completely made an end of them;	37 E farò provare ad Elam il terrore della presenza dei suoi nemici e della vista di coloro che cercano la sua vita, e farò venire su di lui il male, l'ira dell'animo mio sdegnato, dice il Signore; e manderò dietro a loro la spada finchè li abba consumati.
38 My throne I will set up in Elam and destroy from there king and princes, says the LORD.	38 E porrò il mio trono in Elam, e vi sterminerò re e principi, dice il Signore.
39 But in the days to come I will change the lot of Elam, says the LORD.	39 Ma negli ultimi giorni, farò ritornare gli esiliati di Elam, - dice il Signore».
