Sirach 33

1 No evil can harm the man who fears the LORD; through trials, again and again he is safe.	1 Chi teme il Signore non incontrerà il male, ma dopo la prova sarà liberato.
2 He who hates the law is without wisdom, and is tossed about like a boat in a storm.	2 L'uomo saggio non odia la legge, ma chi finge con essa è come mare in tempesta.
3 The prudent man trusts in the word of the LORD, and the law is dependable for him as a divine oracle.	3 L'uomo ragionevole confida nella Parola, accoglie la legge come responso di un oracolo.
4 Prepare your words and you will be listened to; draw upon your training, and then give your answer.	4 Prepara la tua parola perché sia ascoltata, ripensa alla tua istruzione e poi rispondi.
5 Like the wheel of a cart is the mind of a fool; his thoughts revolve in circles.	5 Ruota di carro i sentimenti dello stolto e asse che gira è il suo pensiero.
6 A fickle friend is like the stallion that neighs, no matter who the rider.	6 L'amico derisore è come uno stallone che nitrisce sotto chiunque lo cavalca.
7 Why is one day more important than another, when it is the sun that lights up every day?	7 Perché un giorno è superiore a un altro, anche se la loro luce viene dal sole?
8 It is due to the LORD'S wisdom that they differ; it is through him the seasons and feasts come and go.	8 Sono stati distinti dalla mente del Signore che ha diversificato stagioni e feste.
9 Some he dignifies and sanctifies, and others he lists as ordinary days.	9 Alcuni giorni ha scelto per santificarli, gli altri li destina solo a far numero.
10 So too, all men are of clay, for from earth man was formed;	10 Anche gli uomini vengon tutti dal fango, e Adamo fu creato dalla terra;
11 Yet with his great knowledge the LORD makes men unlike; in different paths he has them walk.	11 ma il Signore li ha distinti con grande sapienza e ha diversificato le loro vie.
12 Some he blesses and makes great, some he sanctifies and draws to himself. Others he curses and brings low, and expels them from their place.	12 Alcuni li ha benedetti ed elevati, alcuni li ha santificati e avvicinati a sé; altri li ha maledetti e umiliati, li ha rovesciati dalla loro posizione.
13 Like clay in the hands of a potter, to be molded according to his pleasure, So are men in the hands of their Creator, to be assigned by him their function.	13 Com'è la creta nelle mani del vasaio che può plasmarla a suo piacimento, così son gli uomini in mano al loro Creatore che dà a ciascuno secondo la sua decisione.
14 As evil contrasts with good, and death with life, so are sinners in contrast with the just;	14 Davanti al male c'è il bene e davanti alla morte la vita, così davanti all'uomo pio c'è il peccatore.
15 See now all the works of the Most High: they come in pairs, the one the opposite of the other.	15 Guarda così a tutte le opere dell'Altissimo, due a due, l'una davanti all'altra.
16 Now I am the last to keep vigil, like a gleaner after the vintage;	16 Io sono venuto per ultimo, come chi racimola dopo la vendemmia.
17 Since by the LORD'S blessing I have made progress till like a vintager I have filled my wine press,	17 Ho fatto presto, con la benedizione del Signore, e ho riempito il tino come chi vendemmia.
18 I would inform you that not for myself only have I toiled, but for every seeker after wisdom.	18 Vedete che non ho faticato per me solo ma per tutti quelli che cercano l'istruzione.
19 Listen to me, O leaders of the multitude; O rulers of the assembly, give ear!	19 Ascoltatemi, o grandi del popolo, e quanti dirigete l'assemblea, udite.
20 Let neither son nor wife, neither brother nor friend, have power over you as long as you live.	20 Al figlio e alla moglie, al fratello e all'amico non dar potere su di te, finché vivi. Non dare ad altri i tuoi averi, perché, se cambi idea, non debba richiederli.
21 While breath of life is still in you, let no man have dominion over you. Give not to another your wealth, lest then you have to plead with him;	21 Finché vivi e c'è in te respiro, non cedere i tuoi averi a nessuno.
22 Far better that your children plead with you than that you should look to their generosity.	22 E' meglio infatti che i figli chiedano a te che non esser tu ad attendere dalle loro mani.
23 Keep control over all your affairs; let no one tarnish your glory.	23 In tutte le opere mantieni la superiorità, non esporre al biasimo la tua dignità.
24 When your few days reach their limit, at the time of death distribute your inheritance.	24 Quando finiranno i giorni della vita, solo al momento della morte, fa' il testamento.
25 Fodder and whip and loads for an ass; the yoke and harness and the rod of his master.	25 Fieno, bastone e carichi per l'asino, pane, disciplina e lavoro per lo schiavo.
26 Make a slave work and he will look for his rest; let his hands be idle and he will seek to be free.	26 Se lo fai lavorare con rigore, starai in pace, se risparmi le sue mani, cercherà la libertà.
27 Food, correction and work for a slave; and for a wicked slave, punishment in the stocks.	27 Giogo e bardatura piegano il collo, corde e torture lo schiavo svogliato.
28 Force him to work that he be not idle, for idleness is an apt teacher of mischief.	28 Mandalo a lavorare perché non resti ozioso, l'ozio infatti insegna molti disordini.
29 Put him to work, for that is what befits him; if he becomes unruly, load him with chains.	29 Mettilo a lavorare perché questo è il suo dovere, se non obbedisce, opprimilo con i ceppi.
30 But never lord it over any human being, and do nothing unjust.	30 Ma non esagerare con nessun uomo, e non far nulla contro il diritto.
31 If you have but one slave, treat him like yourself, for you have acquired him with your life's blood;	31 Se hai uno schiavo, sia come te, perché l'hai comprato a prezzo di sangue.
32 If you have but one slave, deal with him as a brother, for you need him as you need your life:	32 Se hai uno schiavo, trattalo da fratello, perché ti necessita come la tua vita.
33 If you mistreat him and he runs away, in what direction will you look for him?	33 Se, maltrattato, fugge e t'abbandona, in quale via lo cercherai?
