NEW AMERICAN BIBLEGREEK BIBLE
No evil can harm the man who fears the LORD; through trials, again and again he is safe.1 τω φοβουμενω κυριον ουκ απαντησει κακον αλλ' εν πειρασμω και παλιν εξελειται
He who hates the law is without wisdom, and is tossed about like a boat in a storm.2 ανηρ σοφος ου μισησει νομον ο δε υποκρινομενος εν αυτω ως εν καταιγιδι πλοιον
The prudent man trusts in the word of the LORD, and the law is dependable for him as a divine oracle.3 ανθρωπος συνετος εμπιστευσει νομω και ο νομος αυτω πιστος ως ερωτημα δηλων
Prepare your words and you will be listened to; draw upon your training, and then give your answer.4 ετοιμασον λογον και ουτως ακουσθηση συνδησον παιδειαν και αποκριθητι
Like the wheel of a cart is the mind of a fool; his thoughts revolve in circles.5 τροχος αμαξης σπλαγχνα μωρου και ως αξων στρεφομενος ο διαλογισμος αυτου
A fickle friend is like the stallion that neighs, no matter who the rider.6 ιππος εις οχειαν ως φιλος μωκος υποκατω παντος επικαθημενου χρεμετιζει
Why is one day more important than another, when it is the sun that lights up every day?7 δια τι ημερα ημερας υπερεχει και παν φως ημερας ενιαυτου αφ' ηλιου
It is due to the LORD'S wisdom that they differ; it is through him the seasons and feasts come and go.8 εν γνωσει κυριου διεχωρισθησαν και ηλλοιωσεν καιρους και εορτας
Some he dignifies and sanctifies, and others he lists as ordinary days.9 απ' αυτων ανυψωσεν και ηγιασεν και εξ αυτων εθηκεν εις αριθμον ημερων
So too, all men are of clay, for from earth man was formed;10 και ανθρωποι παντες απο εδαφους και εκ γης εκτισθη αδαμ
Yet with his great knowledge the LORD makes men unlike; in different paths he has them walk.11 εν πληθει επιστημης κυριος διεχωρισεν αυτους και ηλλοιωσεν τας οδους αυτων
Some he blesses and makes great, some he sanctifies and draws to himself. Others he curses and brings low, and expels them from their place.12 εξ αυτων ευλογησεν και ανυψωσεν και εξ αυτων ηγιασεν και προς αυτον ηγγισεν απ' αυτων κατηρασατο και εταπεινωσεν και ανεστρεψεν αυτους απο στασεως αυτων
Like clay in the hands of a potter, to be molded according to his pleasure, So are men in the hands of their Creator, to be assigned by him their function.13 ως πηλος κεραμεως εν χειρι αυτου πασαι αι οδοι αυτου κατα την ευδοκιαν αυτου ουτως ανθρωποι εν χειρι του ποιησαντος αυτους αποδουναι αυτοις κατα την κρισιν αυτου
As evil contrasts with good, and death with life, so are sinners in contrast with the just;14 απεναντι του κακου το αγαθον και απεναντι του θανατου η ζωη ουτως απεναντι ευσεβους αμαρτωλος
See now all the works of the Most High: they come in pairs, the one the opposite of the other.15 και ουτως εμβλεψον εις παντα τα εργα του υψιστου δυο δυο εν κατεναντι του ενος
Now I am the last to keep vigil, like a gleaner after the vintage;16 καγω εσχατος ηγρυπνησα ως καλαμωμενος οπισω τρυγητων
Since by the LORD'S blessing I have made progress till like a vintager I have filled my wine press,17 εν ευλογια κυριου εφθασα και ως τρυγων επληρωσα ληνον
I would inform you that not for myself only have I toiled, but for every seeker after wisdom.18 κατανοησατε οτι ουκ εμοι μονω εκοπιασα αλλα πασιν τοις ζητουσιν παιδειαν
Listen to me, O leaders of the multitude; O rulers of the assembly, give ear!19 ακουσατε μου μεγιστανες λαου και οι ηγουμενοι εκκλησιας ενωτισασθε
Let neither son nor wife, neither brother nor friend, have power over you as long as you live.20 υιω και γυναικι αδελφω και φιλω μη δως εξουσιαν επι σε εν ζωη σου και μη δως ετερω τα χρηματα σου ινα μη μεταμεληθεις δεη περι αυτων
While breath of life is still in you, let no man have dominion over you. Give not to another your wealth, lest then you have to plead with him;21 εως ετι ζης και πνοη εν σοι μη αλλαξης σεαυτον εν παση σαρκι
Far better that your children plead with you than that you should look to their generosity.22 κρεισσον γαρ εστιν τα τεκνα δεηθηναι σου η σε εμβλεπειν εις χειρας υιων σου
Keep control over all your affairs; let no one tarnish your glory.23 εν πασι τοις εργοις σου γινου υπεραγων μη δως μωμον εν τη δοξη σου
When your few days reach their limit, at the time of death distribute your inheritance.24 εν ημερα συντελειας ημερων ζωης σου και εν καιρω τελευτης διαδος κληρονομιαν
Fodder and whip and loads for an ass; the yoke and harness and the rod of his master.25 χορτασματα και ραβδος και φορτια ονω αρτος και παιδεια και εργον οικετη
Make a slave work and he will look for his rest; let his hands be idle and he will seek to be free.26 εργασαι εν παιδι και ευρησεις αναπαυσιν ανες χειρας αυτω και ζητησει ελευθεριαν
Food, correction and work for a slave; and for a wicked slave, punishment in the stocks.27 ζυγος και ιμας τραχηλον καμψουσιν και οικετη κακουργω στρεβλαι και βασανοι
Force him to work that he be not idle, for idleness is an apt teacher of mischief.28 εμβαλε αυτον εις εργασιαν ινα μη αργη πολλην γαρ κακιαν εδιδαξεν η αργια
Put him to work, for that is what befits him; if he becomes unruly, load him with chains.29 εις εργα καταστησον καθως πρεπει αυτω καν μη πειθαρχη βαρυνον τας πεδας αυτου
But never lord it over any human being, and do nothing unjust.30 και μη περισσευσης επι παση σαρκι και ανευ κρισεως μη ποιησης μηδεν
If you have but one slave, treat him like yourself, for you have acquired him with your life's blood;31 ει εστιν σοι οικετης εστω ως συ οτι εν αιματι εκτησω αυτον
If you have but one slave, deal with him as a brother, for you need him as you need your life:32 ει εστιν σοι οικετης αγε αυτον ως αδελφον οτι ως η ψυχη σου επιδεησεις αυτω
If you mistreat him and he runs away, in what direction will you look for him?33 εαν κακωσης αυτον και απαρας αποδρα εν ποια οδω ζητησεις αυτον
