1 He does a kindness who lends to his neighbor, and he fulfills the precepts who holds out a helping hand.	1 - Chi pratica la misericordia, impresta al suo prossimo e chi gli dà una mano, osserva i comandamenti.
2 Lend to your neighbor in his hour of need, and pay back your neighbor when a loan falls due;	2 Presta al tuo prossimo nel tempo del suo bisogno, e a tua volta restituisci al prossimo a tempo dovuto.
3 Keep your promise, be honest with him, and you will always come by what you need.	3 Mantieni la parola e diportati fedelmente con lui, e in ogni tempo troverai ciò che ti occorre.
4 Many a man who asks for a loan adds to the burdens of those who help him;	4 Per molti un imprestito è come roba trovata, e procacciali noie a chi gli ha aiutati.
5 When he borrows, he kisses the lender's hand and speaks with respect of his creditor's wealth; But when payment is due he disappoints him and says he is helpless to meet the claim.	5 Finché ricevono, bacian la mano di chi dà, e in promesse umilian la voce;
6 If the lender is able to recover barely half, he considers this an achievement; If not, he is cheated of his wealth and acquires an enemy at no extra charge; With curses and insults the borrower pays him back, with abuse instead of honor.	6 ma al momento di restituire, [ognuno] chiede tempo, e dà parole di rincrescimento e di rammarico, e incolpa i tempi.
7 Many refuse to lend, not out of meanness, but from fear of being cheated.	7 E s'è in grado di restituire, ricalcitra e rende appena la metà della somma, e [il creditore] può considerar [quel poco] come tanto di trovato.
8 To a poor man, however, be generous; keep him not waiting for your alms;	8 Se poi non è [in grado], lo defrauda del suo danaro, e quegli l'avrà come nemico, gratuitamente.
9 Because of the precept, help the needy, and in their want, do not send them away empty-handed.	9 E con ingiurie e maledizioni lo ripagherà, e in luogo di onori e benefici gli renderà oltraggio.
10 Spend your money for your brother and friend, and hide it not under a stone to perish;	10 Molti non danno in prestito non già per malvagità, ma [perchè] temono d'esser defraudati gratuitamente.
11 Dispose of your treasure as the Most High commands, for that will profit you more than the gold.	11 Tuttavia verso il tapino sii generoso d'animo, e non lo tirare in lungo nel [fargli] limosina.
12 Store up almsgiving in your treasure house, and it will save you from every evil;	12 A motivo del comandamento soccorri il povero, e per la sua indigenza non lo rimandare a mani vuote.
13 Better than a stout shield and a sturdy spear it will fight for you against the foe.	13 Perdi pure il danaro per il tuo fratello e amico, e non lo nasconder sotto una pietra [perchè s'arrugginisca e vada] In malora.
14 A good man goes surety for his neighbor, and only the shameless would play him false;	14 Disponi del tuo tesoro secondo i comandamenti dell'Altissimo, e ti gioverà più che l'oro.
15 Forget not the kindness of your backer, for he offers his very life for you.	15 Chiudi la limosina nel cuor del povero, ed essa t'impetrerà [la liberazione] da ogni male.
16 The wicked turn a pledge on their behalf into misfortune, and the ingrate abandons his protector;	16 Meglio d'uno scudo potente e di [robusta] lancia, essa combatterà per te contro il tuo nemico.
17 Going surety has ruined many prosperous men and tossed them about like waves of the sea,	17 -
18 Has exiled men of prominence and sent them wandering through foreign lands.	18 -
19 The sinner through surety comes to grief, and he who undertakes too much falls into lawsuits.	19 L'uomo dabbene presta mallevadoria per il suo prossimo; e chi ha perduto il pudore, l'abbandona a se stesso.
20 Go surety for your neighbor according to your means, but take care lest you fall thereby.	20 La cortesia del mallevadore non la dimenticare, chè per te ha esposto se stesso;
21 Life's prime needs are water, bread, and clothing, a house, too, for decent privacy.	21 è il peccatore e l'immondo che fugge il garante.
22 Better a poor man's fare under the shadow of one's own roof than sumptuous banquets among strangers.	22 I beni del garante si appropria il peccatore, e l'ingrato di cuore abbandona il suo liberatore.
23 Be it little or much, be content with what you have, and pay no heed to him who would disparage your home;	23 Un uomo si fa garante del suo prossimo, e questi perduto [ogni] pudore, l'abbandona!
24 A miserable life it is to go from house to house, for as a guest you dare not open your mouth.	24 La mallevadoria imprudente rovinò molti benestanti, e li travolse come un'ondata di mare.
25 The visitor has no thanks for filling the cups; besides, you will hear these bitter words:	25 Uomini facoltosi cacciò lontano [dalle proprie case], e andaron vagando tra genti straniere.
26 "Come here, stranger, set the table, give me to eat the food you have!	26 Il peccatore che trasgredisce il comandamento del Signore incapperà in mallevadorie disastrose, e chi cerca far molti affari, incapperà in condanne.
27 Away, stranger, for one more worthy; for my brother's visit I need the room!"	27 Soccorri il prossimo a seconda delle tue forze, e bada a te stesso, che tu non abbia a cadere.
28 Painful things to a sensitive man are abuse at home and insults from his creditors.	28 La prima cosa per la vita dell'uomo è l'acqua e il pane e [poi] le vesti e una casa per coprir ciò ch'è vergogna.
	29 Meglio il vitto del povero sotto un tetto di tavole, che i sontuosi banchetti in casa d'altri, quando non s'ha la propria.
	30 Contentati del poco come del molto, e non udrai rinfacciarti d'essere un estraneo.
	31 Triste cosa l'andar peregrinando di casa in casa e là dove uno è ospite, non osa muoversi liberamente, non apre bocca.
	32 E' ospite e darà da mangiare e da bere senz'averne un grazie, e udrà per giunta parole amare.
	33 « Entra, il forestiero, e apparecchia la mensa, e se hai qualcosa alla mano, dà da mangiare [a me] e agli altri ».
	34 « Vattene, [o forestiero], lontano da questo splendore riservato ai miei amici; ho bisogno della casa, m'è giunto ospite un mio fratello».
	35 Dure cose son queste per un uomo che ha sentimento: il rimprovero del [padroni di casa e il rimbrotto di chi ha dato in prestito.
