1 He does a kindness who lends to his neighbor, and he fulfills the precepts who holds out a helping hand.	1 Chi pratica la misericordia concede prestiti al prossimo, chi lo soccorre di propria mano osserva i comandamenti.
2 Lend to your neighbor in his hour of need, and pay back your neighbor when a loan falls due;	2 Dà in prestito al prossimo nel tempo del bisogno, e a tua volta restituisci al prossimo nel momento fissato.
3 Keep your promise, be honest with him, and you will always come by what you need.	3 Mantieni la parola e sii leale con lui, così troverai in ogni momento quanto ti occorre.
4 Many a man who asks for a loan adds to the burdens of those who help him;	4 Molti considerano il prestito come cosa trovata e causano fastidi a coloro che li hanno aiutati.
5 When he borrows, he kisses the lender's hand and speaks with respect of his creditor's wealth; But when payment is due he disappoints him and says he is helpless to meet the claim.	5 Prima di ricevere, ognuno bacia le mani del creditore, parla con tono umile per ottenere gli averi dell'amico; ma alla scadenza cerca di guadagnare tempo, restituisce piagnistei e incolpa le circostanze.
6 If the lender is able to recover barely half, he considers this an achievement; If not, he is cheated of his wealth and acquires an enemy at no extra charge; With curses and insults the borrower pays him back, with abuse instead of honor.	6 Se riesce a pagare il creditore riceverà appena la metà, e dovrà considerarla come una cosa trovata. In caso contrario, il creditore sarà frodato dei suoi averi e avrà senza motivo un nuovo nemico; maledizioni e ingiurie gli restituirà, renderà insulti invece dell'onore dovuto.
7 Many refuse to lend, not out of meanness, but from fear of being cheated.	7 Molti perciò, per tale cattiveria, rifiutan di prestare: hanno paura di perdere i beni senza ragione.
8 To a poor man, however, be generous; keep him not waiting for your alms;	8 Tuttavia sii longanime con il misero, e non fargli attender troppo l'elemosina.
9 Because of the precept, help the needy, and in their want, do not send them away empty-handed.	9 Per il comandamento soccorri il povero, secondo la sua necessità non rimandarlo a mani vuote.
10 Spend your money for your brother and friend, and hide it not under a stone to perish;	10 Perdi pure denaro per un fratello e amico, non si arrugginisca inutilmente sotto una pietra.
11 Dispose of your treasure as the Most High commands, for that will profit you more than the gold.	11 Sfrutta le ricchezze secondo i comandi dell'Altissimo; ti saranno più utili dell'oro.
12 Store up almsgiving in your treasure house, and it will save you from every evil;	12 Rinserra l'elemosina nei tuoi scrigni ed essa ti libererà da ogni disgrazia.
13 Better than a stout shield and a sturdy spear it will fight for you against the foe.	13 Meglio di uno scudo resistente e di una lancia pesante, combatterà per te di fronte al nemico.
14 A good man goes surety for his neighbor, and only the shameless would play him false;	14 L'uomo buono garantisce per il prossimo, chi ha perduto il pudore lo abbandona.
15 Forget not the kindness of your backer, for he offers his very life for you.	15 Non dimenticare il favore di chi si è fatto garante, poiché egli si è impegnato per te.
16 The wicked turn a pledge on their behalf into misfortune, and the ingrate abandons his protector;	16 Il peccatore dilapida i beni del suo garante, l'ingrato di proposito abbandonerà chi l'ha salvato.
17 Going surety has ruined many prosperous men and tossed them about like waves of the sea,	17 La cauzione ha rovinato molta gente onesta, li ha sballottati come onda del mare.
18 Has exiled men of prominence and sent them wandering through foreign lands.	18 Ha mandato in esilio uomini potenti, costretti a errare fra genti straniere.
19 The sinner through surety comes to grief, and he who undertakes too much falls into lawsuits.	19 Un peccatore che offre premurosamente garanzia e ricerca guadagni, sarà coinvolto in processi.
20 Go surety for your neighbor according to your means, but take care lest you fall thereby.	20 Aiuta il tuo prossimo secondo la tua possibilità e bada a te stesso per non cadere.
21 Life's prime needs are water, bread, and clothing, a house, too, for decent privacy.	21 Indispensabili alla vita sono l'acqua, il pane, il vestito e una casa che serva da riparo.
22 Better a poor man's fare under the shadow of one's own roof than sumptuous banquets among strangers.	22 È meglio vivere da povero sotto un tetto di tavole, che godere di cibi sontuosi in case altrui.
23 Be it little or much, be content with what you have, and pay no heed to him who would disparage your home;	23 Del poco come del molto sii contento, così non udirai il disprezzo come straniero.
24 A miserable life it is to go from house to house, for as a guest you dare not open your mouth.	24 Triste vita andare di casa in casa, non potrai aprir bocca, dove sarai come straniero.
25 The visitor has no thanks for filling the cups; besides, you will hear these bitter words:	25 Avrai ospiti, mescerai vino senza un grazie, inoltre ascolterai cose amare:
26 "Come here, stranger, set the table, give me to eat the food you have!	26 "Su, forestiero, apparecchia la tavola, se hai qualche cosa sotto mano, dammi da mangiare".
27 Away, stranger, for one more worthy; for my brother's visit I need the room!"	27 "Vattene, forestiero, cedi il posto a persona onorata; mio fratello sarà mio ospite, ho bisogno della casa".
28 Painful things to a sensitive man are abuse at home and insults from his creditors.	28 Tali cose sono dure per un uomo che abbia intelligenza: i rimproveri per l'ospitalità e gli insulti di un creditore.
