NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Then shall the just one with great assurance confront his oppressors who set at nought his labors.	1 Então, com grande confiança, o justo se levantará em face dos que o perseguiram e zombaram dos seus males aqui embaixo.
2 Seeing this, they shall be shaken with dreadful fear, and amazed at the unlooked-for salvation.	2 Diante de sua vista serão presos de grande temor e tomados de assombro ao vê-lo salvo contra sua expectativa;
3 They shall say among themselves, rueful and groaning through anguish of spirit: "This is he whom once we held as a laughingstock and as a type for mockery,	3 tocados de arrependimento, dirão entre si, e, gemendo na angústia de sua alma, dirão:
4 fools that we were! His life we accounted madness, and his death dishonored.	4 Ei-lo, aquele de quem outrora escarnecemos, e a quem loucamente cobrimos de insultos! Considerávamos sua vida como uma loucura, e sua morte como uma vergonha.
5 See how he is accounted among the sons of God; how his lot is with the saints!	5 Como, pois, é ele do número dos filhos de Deus, e como está seu lugar entre os santos?
6 We, then, have strayed from the way of truth, and the light of justice did not shine for us, and the sun did not rise for us.	6 Portanto, nós nos desgarramos para longe da verdade: a luz da justiça não brilhou para nós e o sol não se levantou sobre nós!
7 We had our fill of the ways of mischief and of ruin; we journeyed through impassable deserts, but the way of the LORD we knew not.	7 Nós nos manchamos nas sendas da iniqüidade e da perdição, erramos pelos desertos sem caminhos e não conhecemos o caminho do Senhor!
8 What did our pride avail us? What have wealth and its boastfulness afforded us?	8 O que ganhamos com nosso orgulho, e que nos trouxe a riqueza unida à arrogância?
9 All of them passed like a shadow and like a fleeting rumor;	9 Tudo isso desapareceu como sombra, como notícia que passa;
10 Like a ship traversing the heaving water, of which, when it has passed, no trace can be found, no path of its keel in the waves.	10 como navio que fende a água agitada, sem que se possa reencontrar o rasto de seu itinerário, nem a esteira de sua quilha nas ondas.
11 Or like a bird flying through the air; no evidence of its course is to be found- But the fluid air, lashed by the beat of pinions, and cleft by the rushing force Of speeding wings, is traversed: and afterward no mark of passage can be found in it.	11 Como a ave que, atravessando o ar em seu vôo, não deixa após si o traço de sua passagem, mas, ferindo o ar com suas penas, fende-o com a impetuosa força do bater de suas asas, atravessa-o e logo nem se nota indício de sua passagem;
12 Or as, when an arrow has been shot at a mark, the parted air straightway flows together again so that none discerns the way it went through-	12 como quando uma flecha, que é lançada ao alvo, o ar que ela cortou volta imediatamente à sua posição de modo que não se pode distinguir sua trajetória,
13 Even so we, once born, abruptly came to nought and held no sign of virtue to display, but were consumed in our wickedness."	13 assim, também nós, apenas nascidos, cessamos de ser, e não podemos mostrar traço algum de virtude: é no mal que nossa vida se consumiu!
14 Yes, the hope of the wicked is like thistledown borne on the wind, and like fine, tempest-driven foam; Like smoke scattered by the wind, and like the passing memory of the nomad camping for a single day.	14 Assim a esperança do ímpio é como a poeira levada pelo vento, e como uma leve espuma espalhada pela tempestade; ela se dissipa como o fumo ao vento, e passa como a lembrança do hóspede de um dia.
15 But the just live forever, and in the LORD is their recompense, and the thought of them is with the Most High.	15 Mas os justos viverão eternamente; sua recompensa está no Senhor, e o Altíssimo cuidará deles.
16 Therefore shall they receive the splendid crown, the beauteous diadem, from the hand of the LORD- For he shall shelter them with his right hand, and protect them with his arm.	16 Por isso receberão a régia coroa de glória, e o diadema da beleza da mão do Senhor, porque os cobrirá com sua direita, e os protegerá com seu braço.
17 He shall take his zeal for armor and he shall arm creation to requite the enemy;	17 Por armadura tomará seu zelo cioso, e armará as criaturas para se vingar de seus inimigos.
18 He shall don justice for a breastplate and shall wear sure judgment for a helmet;	18 Tomará por couraça a justiça, e por capacete a integridade no julgamento.
19 He shall take invincible rectitude as a shield	19 Ele se cobrirá com a santidade, como com um impenetrável escudo,
20 and whet his sudden anger for a sword, And the universe shall war with him against the foolhardy.	20 afiará o gume de sua ira para lhe servir de espada, e o mundo se reunirá a ele na luta contra os insensatos.
21 Well-aimed shafts of lightnings shall go forth and from the clouds as from a well-drawn bow shall leap to the mark;	21 Os raios partirão como flechas bem dirigidas, e, como de um arco bem distendido, voarão das nuvens para o alvo;
22 and as from his sling, wrathful hailstones shall be hurled. The water of the sea shall be enraged against them and the streams shall abruptly overflow;	22 uma balista fará cair uma pesada saraiva de ira; a água do mar se levantará em turbilhão contra eles e os rios os arrastarão impetuosamente.
23 A mighty wind shall confront them and a tempest winnow them out; Thus lawlessness shall lay the whole earth waste and evildoing overturn the thrones of potentates.	23 O sopro do Todo-poderoso se insurgirá contra eles e os dispersará como um furacão; a iniqüidade fará de toda a terra um deserto, e a malícia derribará os tronos dos poderosos!
