1 Then shall the just one with great assurance confront his oppressors who set at nought his labors.	1 Estará entonces el justo en pie con gran confianza en presencia de los que le afligieron y despreciaron sus trabajos.
2 Seeing this, they shall be shaken with dreadful fear, and amazed at the unlooked-for salvation.	2 Al verle, quedarán estremecidos de terrible espanto, estupefactos por lo inesperado de su salvación.
3 They shall say among themselves, rueful and groaning through anguish of spirit: "This is he whom once we held as a laughingstock and as a type for mockery,	3 Se dirán mudando de parecer, gimiendo en la angustia de su espíritu:
4 fools that we were! His life we accounted madness, and his death dishonored.	4 «Este es aquel a quien hicimos entonces objeto de nuestras burlas, a quien dirigíamos, insensatos, nuestros insultos. Locura nos pareció su vida y su muerte, una ignominia.
5 See how he is accounted among the sons of God; how his lot is with the saints!	5 ¿Cómo, pues, ha sido contado entre los hijos de Dios y tiene su herencia entre los santos?
6 We, then, have strayed from the way of truth, and the light of justice did not shine for us, and the sun did not rise for us.	6 Luego vagamos fuera del camino de la verdad; la luz de la justicia no nos alumbró, no salió el sol para nosotros.
7 We had our fill of the ways of mischief and of ruin; we journeyed through impassable deserts, but the way of the LORD we knew not.	7 Nos hartamos de andar por sendas de iniquidad y perdición, atravesamos desiertos intransitables; pero el camino del Señor, no lo conocimos.
8 What did our pride avail us? What have wealth and its boastfulness afforded us?	8 ¿De qué nos sirvió nuestro orgullo? ¿De qué la riqueza y la jactancia?
9 All of them passed like a shadow and like a fleeting rumor;	9 Todo aquello pasó como una sombra, como noticia que va corriendo;
10 Like a ship traversing the heaving water, of which, when it has passed, no trace can be found, no path of its keel in the waves.	10 como nave que atraviesa las aguas agitadas, y no es posible descubrir la huella de su paso ni el rastro de su quilla en las olas;
11 Or like a bird flying through the air; no evidence of its course is to be found- But the fluid air, lashed by the beat of pinions, and cleft by the rushing force Of speeding wings, is traversed: and afterward no mark of passage can be found in it.	11 como pájaro que volando atraviesa el aire, y de su vuelo no se encuentra vestigio alguno; con el golpe de sus remos azota el aire ligero, lo corta con agudo silbido, se abre camino batiendo las alas y después, no se descubre señal de su paso;
12 Or as, when an arrow has been shot at a mark, the parted air straightway flows together again so that none discerns the way it went through-	12 como flecha disparada al blanco; el aire hendido refluye al instante sobre sí y no sabe el camino que la flecha siguió.
13 Even so we, once born, abruptly came to nought and held no sign of virtue to display, but were consumed in our wickedness."	13 Lo mismo nosotros: apenas nacidos, dejamos de existir, y no podemos mostrar vestigio alguno de virtud; nos gastamos en nuestra maldad».
14 Yes, the hope of the wicked is like thistledown borne on the wind, and like fine, tempest-driven foam; Like smoke scattered by the wind, and like the passing memory of the nomad camping for a single day.	14 En efecto, la esperanza del impío es como brizna arrebatada por el viento, como espuma ligera acosada por el huracán, se desvanece como el humo con el viento; pasa como el recuerdo del huésped de un día.
15 But the just live forever, and in the LORD is their recompense, and the thought of them is with the Most High.	15 Los justos, en cambio, viven eternamente; en el Señor está su recompensa, y su cuidado a cargo del Altísimo.
16 Therefore shall they receive the splendid crown, the beauteous diadem, from the hand of the LORD- For he shall shelter them with his right hand, and protect them with his arm.	16 Recibirán por eso de mano del Señor la corona real del honor y la diadema de la hermosura; pues con su diestra los protegerá y los escudará con su brazo.
17 He shall take his zeal for armor and he shall arm creation to requite the enemy;	17 Tomará su celo como armadura, y armará a la creación para rechazar a sus enemigos;
18 He shall don justice for a breastplate and shall wear sure judgment for a helmet;	18 por coraza vestirá la justicia, se pondrá por casco un juicio sincero,
19 He shall take invincible rectitude as a shield	19 tomará por escudo su santidad invencible,
20 and whet his sudden anger for a sword, And the universe shall war with him against the foolhardy.	20 afilará como espada su cólera inexorable, y el universo saldrá con él a pelear contra los insensatos.
21 Well-aimed shafts of lightnings shall go forth and from the clouds as from a well-drawn bow shall leap to the mark;	21 Partirán certeros los tiros de los rayos, de las nubes, como de arco bien tendido, saltarán al blanco,
22 and as from his sling, wrathful hailstones shall be hurled. The water of the sea shall be enraged against them and the streams shall abruptly overflow;	22 de una ballesta se disparará furioso granizo; las olas del mar se encresparán contra ellos, los ríos los anegarán sin piedad;
23 A mighty wind shall confront them and a tempest winnow them out; Thus lawlessness shall lay the whole earth waste and evildoing overturn the thrones of potentates.	23 se levantará contra ellos un viento poderoso y como huracán los aventará. Así la iniquidad asolará la tierra entera y la maldad derribará los tronos de los que están en el poder.
