1 Better is childlessness with virtue; for immortal is its memory: because both by God is it acknowledged, and by men.	1 Meglio essere senza figli e avere la virtù, poiché nel ricordo di questa c'è immortalità, per il fatto che è riconosciuta da Dio e dagli uomini.
2 When it is present men imitate it, and they long for it when it is gone; And forever it marches crowned in triumph, victorious in unsullied deeds of valor.	2 Presente è imitata; assente è desiderata; nell'eternità trionfa, cinta di corona, per aver vinto nella gara di combattimenti senza macchia.
3 But the numerous progeny of the wicked shall be of no avail; their spurious offshoots shall not strike deep root nor take firm hold.	3 La discendenza numerosa degli empi non servirà a nulla; e dalle sue bastarde propaggini non metterà profonde radici né si consoliderà su una base sicura.
4 For even though their branches flourish for a time, they are unsteady and shall be rocked by the wind and, by the violence of the winds, uprooted;	4 Anche se per qualche tempo mette gemme sui rami, i suoi germogli precari saranno scossi dal vento e sradicati dalla violenza delle bufere.
5 Their twigs shall be broken off untimely, and their fruit be useless, unripe for eating, and fit for nothing.	5 Si spezzeranno i ramoscelli ancora teneri; il loro frutto sarà inutile, non maturo da mangiare, e a nulla servirà.
6 For children born of lawless unions give evidence of the wickedness of their parents, when they are examined.	6 Infatti i figli nati da unioni illegali attestano la perversità dei genitori nel giudizio di essi.
7 But the just man, though he die early, shall be at rest.	7 Il giusto, anche se muore prematuramente, troverà riposo.
8 For the age that is honorable comes not with the passing of time, nor can it be measured in terms of years.	8 Vecchiaia veneranda non è la longevità, né si calcola dal numero degli anni;
9 Rather, understanding is the hoary crown for men, and an unsullied life, the attainment of old age.	9 ma la canizie per gli uomini sta nella sapienza; e un'età senile è una vita senza macchia.
10 He who pleased God was loved; he who lived among sinners was transported--	10 Divenuto caro a Dio, fu amato da lui e poiché viveva fra peccatori, fu trasferito.
11 Snatched away, lest wickedness pervert his mind or deceit beguile his soul;	11 Fu rapito, perché la malizia non ne mutasse i sentimenti o l'inganno non ne traviasse l'animo,
12 For the witchery of paltry things obscures what is right and the whirl of desire transforms the innocent mind.	12 poiché il fascino del vizio deturpa anche il bene e il turbine della passione travolge una mente semplice.
13 Having become perfect in a short while, he reached the fullness of a long career;	13 Giunto in breve alla perfezione, ha compiuto una lunga carriera.
14 for his soul was pleasing to the LORD, therefore he sped him out of the midst of wickedness. But the people saw and did not understand, nor did they take this into account.	14 La sua anima fu gradita al Signore; perciò egli lo tolse in fretta da un ambiente malvagio. I popoli vedono senza comprendere; non riflettono nella mente a questo fatto
15	15 che la grazia e la misericordia sono per i suoi eletti e la protezione per i suoi santi.
16 Yes, the just man dead condemns the sinful who live, and youth swiftly completed condemns the many years of the wicked man grown old.	16 Il giusto defunto condanna gli empi ancora in vita; una giovinezza, giunta in breve alla perfezione, condanna la lunga vecchiaia dell'ingiusto.
17 For they see the death of the wise man and do not understand what the LORD intended for him, or why he made him secure.	17 Le folle vedranno la fine del saggio, ma non capiranno ciò che Dio ha deciso a suo riguardo né in vista di che cosa il Signore l'ha posto al sicuro.
18 They see, and hold him in contempt; but the LORD laughs them to scorn.	18 Vedranno e disprezzeranno, ma il Signore li deriderà.
19 And they shall afterward become dishonored corpses and an unceasing mockery among the dead. For he shall strike them down speechless and prostrate and rock them to their foundations; They shall be utterly laid waste and shall be in grief and their memory shall perish.	19 Infine diventeranno un cadavere spregevole, oggetto di scherno fra i morti per sempre. Dio infatti li precipiterà muti, a capofitto, e li schianterà dalle fondamenta; saranno del tutto rovinati, si troveranno tra dolori e il loro ricordo perirà.
20 Fearful shall they come, at the counting up of their sins, and their lawless deeds shall convict them to their face.	20 Si presenteranno tremanti al rendiconto dei loro peccati; le loro iniquità si alzeranno contro di essi per accusarli.
