1 Wine is arrogant, strong drink is riotous; none who goes astray for it is wise.	1 Arrogante es el vino, tumultuosa la bebida; quien en ellas se pierde, no llegará a sabio.
2 The dread of the king is as when a lion roars; he who incurs his anger forfeits his life.	2 Como rugido de león la indignación del rey, el que la excita, se daña a sí mismo.
3 It is honorable for a man to shun strife, while every fool starts a quarrel.	3 Es gloria para el hombre apartarse de litigios, pero todo necio se sale de sí.
4 In seedtime the sluggard plows not; when he looks for the harvest, it is not there.	4 A partir del otoño, el perezoso no trabaja, en la cosecha busca, pero no hay nada.
5 The intention in the human heart is like water far below the surface, but the man of intelligence draws it forth.	5 El consejo en el corazón del hombre es agua profunda, el hombre inteligente sabrá sacarla.
6 Many are declared to be men of virtue: but who can find one worthy of trust?	6 Muchos hombres se dicen piadosos; pero un hombre fiel, ¿quién lo encontrará?
7 When a man walks in integrity and justice, happy are his children after him!	7 El justo camina en la integridad; ¡dichosos sus hijos después de él!
8 A king seated on the throne of judgment dispels all evil with his glance.	8 Un rey sentado en el tribunal disipa con sus ojos todo mal.
9 Who can say, "I have made my heart clean, I am cleansed of my sin"?	9 ¿Quién puede decir: «Purifiqué mi corazón, estoy limpio de mi pecado?»
10 Varying weights, varying measures, are both an abomination to the LORD.	10 Dos pesos y dos medidas, ambas cosas aborrece Yahveh.
11 Even by his manners the child betrays whether his conduct is innocent and right.	11 Incluso en sus acciones da el muchacho a conocer si sus obras serán puras y rectas.
12 The ear that hears, and the eye that sees-- the LORD has made them both.	12 El oído que oye y el ojo que ve; ambas cosas las hizo Yahveh.
13 Love not sleep, lest you be reduced to poverty; eyes wide open mean abundant food.	13 No ames el sueño, para no hacerte pobre; ten abiertos los ojos y te hartarás de pan.
14 "Bad, bad!" says the buyer; but once he has gone his way, he boasts.	14 «¡Malo, malo!» dice el comprador, pero al marchar se felicita.
15 Like gold or a wealth of corals, wise lips are a precious ornament.	15 Hay oro y numerosas perlas, pero los labios instruidos son la cosa más preciosa.
16 Take his garment who becomes surety for another, and for strangers yield it up!	16 Tómale su vestido, pues salió fiador de otro; tómale prenda por los extraños.
17 The bread of deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.	17 El pan de fraude le es dulce al hombre, pero luego la boca se llena de grava.
18 Plans made after advice succeed; so with wise guidance wage your war.	18 Los proyectos con el consejo se afianzan: haz con táctica la guerra.
19 A newsmonger reveals secrets; so have nothing to do with a babbler!	19 El que anda murmurando descubre secretos; no andes con quien tiene la lengua suelta.
20 If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness.	20 Al que maldice a su padre y a su madre, se le extinguirá su lámpara en medio de tinieblas.
21 Possessions gained hastily at the outset will in the end not be blessed.	21 Herencia adquirida al principio con presteza, ne será a la postre bendecida.
22 Say not, "I will repay evil!" Trust in the LORD and he will help you.	22 No digas: «Voy a devolver el mal»; confía en Yahveh, que te salvará.
23 Varying weights are an abomination to the LORD, and false scales are not good.	23 Tener dos pesas lo abomina Yahveh; tener balanzas falsas no está bien.
24 Man's steps are from the LORD; how, then, can a man understand his way?	24 De Yahveh dependen los pasos del hombre: ¿cómo puede el hombre comprender su camino?
25 Rashly to pledge a sacred gift is a trap for a man, or to regret a vow once made.	25 Lazo es para el hombre pronunciar a la ligera: «¡Sagrado!» y después de haber hecho el voto reflexionar.
26 A wise king winnows the wicked, and threshes them under the cartwheel.	26 Un rey sabio aventa a los malos y hace pasar su rueda sobre ellos.
27 A lamp from the LORD is the breath of man; it searches through all his inmost being.	27 Lámpara de Yahveh es el hálito del hombre que explora hasta el fondo de su ser.
28 Kindness and piety safeguard the king, and he upholds his throne by justice.	28 Bondad y lealtad custodian al rey, fundamenta su trono en la bondad.
29 The glory of young men is their strength, and the dignity of old men is gray hair.	29 El vigor es la belleza de los jóvenes, las canas el ornato de los viejos.
30 Evil is cleansed away by bloody lashes, and a scourging to the inmost being.	30 Las cicatrices de las heridas son remedio contra el mal, los golpes curan hasta el fondo de las entrañas.
