1 A wise son loves correction, but the senseless one heeds no rebuke.	1 Un figlio saggio ama la disciplina, un insensato non accetta rimproveri.
2 From the fruit of his words a man eats good things, but the treacherous one craves violence.	2 Dal frutto della bocca l'uomo mangia ciò che è buono, ma il ventre dei malvagi si ciba di violenza.
3 He who guards his mouth protects his life; to open wide one's lips brings downfall.	3 Chi custodisce la sua bocca, protegge la sua vita, per chi la spalanca troppo c'è solo rovina.
4 The soul of the sluggard craves in vain, but the diligent soul is amply satisfied.	4 Il pigro brama, senza avere niente, il ventre dei solerti invece viene saziato.
5 Anything deceitful the just man hates, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace.	5 Il giusto odia una parola bugiarda, il cattivo invece disonora e diffama.
6 Virtue guards one who walks honestly, but the downfall of the wicked is sin.	6 La giustizia custodisce colui che è retto, il peccato manda in rovina il peccatore.
7 One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.	7 C'è chi si mostra ricco senza avere niente e c'è chi, pur sembrando povero, ha molto.
8 A man's riches serve as ransom for his life, but the poor man heeds no rebuke.	8 Per riscattar la vita l'uomo ha la ricchezza, il povero però non sente la minaccia.
9 The light of the just shines gaily, but the lamp of the wicked goes out.	9 La luce dei giusti risplende gioiosa, la lampada degli empi va morendo.
10 The stupid man sows discord by his insolence, but with those who take counsel is wisdom.	10 Nell'orgoglio c'è solo la contesa, con chi chiede consiglio c'è saggezza.
11 Wealth quickly gotten dwindles away, but amassed little by little, it grows.	11 Accumulata in fretta, svanisce la ricchezza, chi ammassa piano piano si fa ricco.
12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a wish fulfilled is a tree of life.	12 Speranza differita è malattia al cuore, albero di vita è un desiderio soddisfatto.
13 He who despises the word must pay for it, but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded.	13 Chi disprezza la parola ci rimette, chi teme il precetto sta in pace.
14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that a man may avoid the snares of death.	14 L'insegnamento del saggio è una sorgente di vita, per sfuggire ai lacci della morte.
15 Good sense brings favor, but the way of the faithless is their ruin.	15 Una buona intelligenza procura favore, ma la via dei perfidi è insidiosa.
16 The shrewd man does everything with prudence, but the fool peddles folly.	16 Ogni uomo avveduto agisce mostrando la sua scienza, lo stolto invece sprizza la follia.
17 A wicked messenger brings on disaster, but a trustworthy envoy is a healing remedy.	17 Un empio messaggero porta alla disgrazia, un messaggero fedele invece è un rimedio.
18 Poverty and shame befall the man who disregards correction, but he who heeds reproof is honored.	18 Povertà e vergogna per chi trascura la disciplina, chi tien conto del rimprovero è onorato.
19 Lust indulged starves the soul, but fools hate to turn from evil.	19 Desiderio soddisfatto è una dolcezza all'anima, abominio per gli stolti è ritrarsi dal male.
20 Walk with wise men and you will become wise, but the companion of fools will fare badly.	20 Chi va coi sapienti diventa sapiente, chi pratica gli stolti si perverte.
21 Misfortune pursues sinners, but the just shall be recompensed with good.	21 La disgrazia va dietro ai peccatori, il bene invece ricompensa i giusti.
22 The good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the just.	22 Chi è buono trasmette l'eredità ai nipoti, tesoro dei giusti è la ricchezza dell'empio.
23 A lawsuit devours the tillage of the poor, but some men perish for lack of a law court.	23 Ricco nutrimento sono i campi dei poveri, ma c'è chi muore perché privo di senno.
24 He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him takes care to chastise him.	24 Chi risparmia il bastone odia il proprio figlio, chi lo ama prodiga la disciplina.
25 When the just man eats, his hunger is appeased; but the belly of the wicked suffers want.	25 Il giusto mangia fino a saziarsi, il ventre degli empi resta vuoto.
