For the leader; "upon the gittith." A psalm of the Korahites. | 1 Unto the end, for the winepresses, a psalm for the sons of Core. |
How lovely your dwelling, O LORD of hosts! | 2 How lovely are thy tabernacles, O Lord of host! |
My soul yearns and pines for the courts of the LORD. My heart and flesh cry out for the living God. | 3 my soul longeth and fainteth for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh have rejoiced in the living God. |
As the sparrow finds a home and the swallow a nest to settle her young, My home is by your altars, LORD of hosts, my king and my God! | 4 For the sparrow hath found herself a house, and the turtle a nest for herself where she may lay her young ones: Thy altars, O Lord of hosts, my king and my God. |
Happy are those who dwell in your house! They never cease to praise you. Selah | 5 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house, O Lord: they shall praise thee for ever and ever. |
Happy are those who find refuge in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrim roads. | 6 Blessed is the man whose help is from thee: in his heart he hath disposed to ascend by steps, |
As they pass through the Baca valley, they find spring water to drink. Also from pools the Lord provides water for those who lose their way. | 7 in the vale of tears, in the place which be hath set. |
They pass through outer and inner wall and see the God of gods on Zion. | 8 For the lawgiver shall give a blessing, they shall go from virtue to virtue: the God of gods shall be seen in Sion. |
LORD of hosts, hear my prayer; listen, God of Jacob. Selah | 9 O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. |
O God, look kindly on our shield; look upon the face of your anointed. | 10 Behold, O God our protector: and look on the face of thy Christ. |
Better one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere. Better the threshold of the house of my God than a home in the tents of the wicked. | 11 For better is one day in thy courts above thousands. I have chosen to be an abject in the house of my God, rather than to dwell in the tabernacles of sinners. |
For a sun and shield is the LORD God, bestowing all grace and glory. The LORD withholds no good thing from those who walk without reproach. | 12 For God loveth mercy and truth: the Lord will give grace and glory. |
O LORD of hosts, happy are those who trust in you! | 13 He will not deprive of good things them that walk in innocence : O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee. |
