For the leader; with stringed instruments, "upon the eighth." A psalm of David.1 In parts according to verses. A Psalm of David. For the octave.
Do not reprove me in your anger, LORD, nor punish me in your wrath.2 O Lord, do not rebuke me in your fury, nor chastise me in your anger.
Have pity on me, LORD, for I am weak; heal me, LORD, for my bones are trembling.3 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my bones have become disturbed,
In utter terror is my soul-- and you, LORD, how long...?4 and my soul has been very troubled. But as for you, Lord, when?
Turn, LORD, save my life; in your mercy rescue me.5 Turn to me, Lord, and rescue my soul. Save me because of your mercy.
For who among the dead remembers you? Who praises you in Sheol?6 For there is no one in death who would be mindful of you. And who will confess to you in Hell?
I am wearied with sighing; all night long tears drench my bed; my couch is soaked with weeping.7 I have labored in my groaning. Every night, with my tears, I will wash my bed and drench my blanket.
My eyes are dimmed with sorrow, worn out because of all my foes.8 My eye has been troubled by rage. I have grown old among all my enemies.
Away from me, all who do evil! The LORD has heard my weeping.9 Scatter before me, all you who work iniquity, for the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.
The LORD has heard my prayer; the LORD takes up my plea.10 The Lord has heard my supplication. The Lord has accepted my prayer.
My foes will be terrified and disgraced; all will fall back in sudden shame.11 Let all my enemies be ashamed and together be greatly troubled. May they be converted and become ashamed very quickly.
