NEW AMERICAN BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
A song of ascents. Much have they oppressed me from my youth, now let Israel say.1 [Song of Ascents] Often as men have attacked me since I was young -- let Israel repeat it-
Much have they oppressed me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed.2 often as men have attacked me since I was young, they have never overcome me.
Upon my back the plowers plowed, as they traced their long furrows.3 On my back ploughmen have set to work, making long furrows,
But the just LORD cut me free from the ropes of the yoke of the wicked.4 but Yahweh the upright has shattered the yoke of the wicked.
May they be scattered in disgrace, all who hate Zion.5 Let al who hate Zion be thrown back in confusion,
May they be like grass on the rooftops withered in early growth,6 let them be like grass on a roof, dried up before it is cut,
Never to fill the reaper's hands, nor the arms of the binders of sheaves,7 never to fil the reaper's arm nor the binder's lap.
With none passing by to call out: "The blessing of the LORD be upon you! We bless you in the name of the LORD!"8 And no passer-by wil say, 'The blessing of Yahweh be on you! 'We bless you in the name ofYahweh.'
