Job 23

1 Again Job answered and said:	1 Giobbe rispose, e disse:
2 Though I know my complaint is bitter, his hand is heavy upon me in my groanings.	2 Anche adesso le mie parole sono parole di amarezza, e la mano, che mi ha piagato è più forte de' miei sospiri.
3 Oh, that today I might find him, that I might come to his judgment seat!	3 Chi mi darà di saper ritrovarlo, e di giungere fino al suo trono?
4 I would set out my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments;	4 Porterei dinanzi a lui la mia causa, e la bocca piena avrei di querele.
5 I would learn the words with which he would answer, and understand what he would reply to me.	5 Affin di sapere quel, ch'ei mi rispondesse, e di intendere quel, ch'ei mi dicesse.
6 Even should he contend against me with his great power, yet, would that he himself might heed me!	6 Non vorrei, che egli meco contendesse colla sua molta fortezza, né che mi sopraffacesse colla mole di sua grandezza.
7 There the upright man might reason with him, and I should once and for all preserve my rights.	7 Proponga contro di me l'equità, e vincitore uscirei dal mio giudizio.
8 But if I go to the east, he is not there; or to the west, I cannot perceive him;	8 Ma se io vo verso Oriente, ei non comparisce; se verso Occidente, non saprò rinvenirlo.
9 Where the north enfolds him, I behold him not; by the south he is veiled, and I see him not.	9 Se mi volgo a sinistra che farò io? non posso raggiungerlo; e se a destra, io nol vedrò.
10 Yet he knows my way; if he proved me, I should come forth as gold.	10 A lui però noti sono i miei andamenti, ed egli ha fatto saggio di me, come si fa dell'oro, che passa pel fuoco.
11 My foot has always walked in his steps; his way I have kept and have not turned aside.	11 Il mio piede ha seguitato le sue vestigia, ho battute le sue vie, né ho declinato da queste.
12 From the commands of his lips I have not departed; the words of his mouth I have treasured in my heart.	12 Non mi son dilungato dai precetti delle sue labbra, e nel mio seno ho riposte le parole della sua bocca.
13 But he had decided, and who can say him nay? What he desires, that he does.	13 Ma egli solo è, e nissuno può frastornare i suoi disegni, e quello che alla volontà di lui è piaciuto egli lo ha fatto.
14 For he will carry out what is appointed for me; and many such things may yet be in his mind.	14 Quand'egli avrà fatto di me quello, che ha voluto, molte altre simili cose ha in pronto tutt'ora.
15 Therefore am I dismayed before him; when I take thought, I fear him.	15 Per questo alla sua presenza io mi conturbo, e quand'io lo considero, mi scuote il timore.
16 Indeed God has made my courage fail; the Almighty has put me in dismay.	16 Dio ha ammollito il mio cuore, e l'Onnipotente mi ha conturbato.
17 Yes, would that I had vanished in darkness, and that thick gloom were before me to conceal me.	17 Perocché io vengo meno non per le tenebre, che mi stan sopra; né questa caligine mi ha velata la faccia.
