1 Hiram, king of Tyre, sent envoys to David along with masons and carpenters, and cedar wood to build him a house.	1 Jiram, el rey de Tiro, envió a David mensajeros con maderas de cedro, albañiles y carpinteros, para edificarle una casa.
2 David now understood that the LORD had truly confirmed him as king over Israel, for his kingdom was greatly exalted for the sake of his people Israel.	2 Así David reconoció que el Señor lo había afianzado como rey sobre Israel, porque su reino había sido enaltecido a causa de su pueblo Israel.
3 David took other wives in Jerusalem and became the father of more sons and daughters.	3 David tomó como esposas a otras mujeres en Jerusalén y tuvo más hijos e hijas.
4 These are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,	4 Estos son los nombres de los hijos que le nacieron en Jerusalén: Samúa, Sobab, Natán y Salomón,
5 Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,	5 Ibjar, Elisúa y Elpálet,
6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,	6 Nogá, Néfeg y Iafía,
7 Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.	7 Elisamá, Beeliadá y Elifélet.
8 When the Philistines had heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, they went up in unison to seek him out. But when David heard of this, he marched out against them.	8 Cuando los filisteos oyeron que habían ungido a David como rey de todo Israel, subieron para atacarlo. Pero David lo supo y les salió al encuentro.
9 Meanwhile the Philistines had come and raided the valley of Rephaim.	9 Los filisteos vinieron y se desplegaron por el valle de Refaím.
10 David inquired of God, "Shall I advance against the Philistines, and will you deliver them into my power?" The LORD answered him, "Advance, for I will deliver them into your power."	10 David entonces consultó a Dios: «¿Debo atacar a los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en mis manos?». Y el Señor le respondió: «¡Sube, y yo los entregaré en tus manos!».
11 They advanced, therefore, to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there. Then David said, "God has used me to break through my enemies just as water breaks through a dam." Therefore that place was called Baal-perazim.	11 Ellos subieron a Baal Perasím, y allí David los derrotó. Entonces dijo: «Dios ha abierto ante mí una brecha entre mis enemigos, como una brecha abierta por las aguas». Por eso se llamó a ese lugar Baal Perasím –que significa «Señor de las Brechas»–.
12 The Philistines had left their gods there, and David ordered them to be burnt.	12 Los filisteos abandonaron allí a sus dioses, y David dijo: «¡Que sean arrojados al fuego!».
13 Once again the Philistines raided the valley,	13 Los filisteos volvieron a desplegarse por el valle.
14 and again David inquired of God. But God answered him: "Do not try to pursue them, but go around them and come upon them from the direction of the mastic trees.	14 David consultó nuevamente a Dios, y él le respondió: «¡No subas a perseguirlos! Da una vuelta por detrás de ellos y enfréntalos desde el lado de las balsameras.
15 When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mastic trees, then go forth to battle, for God has already gone before you to strike the army of the Philistines."	15 Cuando oigas ruidos de pasos sobre la copa de las balsameras, ataca decididamente, porque Dios saldrá delante de ti para derrotar al ejército de los filisteos».
16 David did as God commanded him, and they routed the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.	16 David hizo lo que el Señor le había ordenado y derrotó al ejército de los filisteos, desde Gabaón hasta Guézer.
17 Thus David's fame was spread abroad through every land, and the LORD made all the nations fear him.	17 La fama de David se extendió por todas las regiones, porque el Señor lo hizo temible delante de todos los pueblos.
