1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah;	1 La dix-huitième année du roi Jéroboam fils de Nabat, Abiyam devint roi de Juda.
2 he reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah, daughter of Abishalom.	2 Il régna trois ans à Jérusalem, sa mère était Maaka fille d’Absalom.
3 He imitated all the sins his father had committed before him, and his heart was not entirely with the LORD, his God, like the heart of his grandfather David.	3 Il imita tous les péchés que ses pères avaient commis avant lui, son cœur ne fut pas tout entier à Yahvé comme l’avait été le cœur de son ancêtre David.
4 Yet for David's sake the LORD, his God, gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, raising up his son after him and permitting Jerusalem to endure;	4 Mais Yahvé voulait garder une lampe à David à Jérusalem: son fils régna après lui à sa place et Jérusalem fut protégée.
5 because David had pleased the LORD and did not disobey any of his commands as long as he lived, except in the case of Uriah the Hittite.	5 En effet, David avait fait ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahvé, il ne s’était pas détourné de toute sa vie des commandements qu’il avait reçus, sauf dans l’affaire d’Urie le Hittite.

8 Abijam rested with his ancestors; he was buried in the City of David, and his son Asa succeeded him as king.	8 Quand Abiyam se coucha avec ses pères, on l’enterra dans la cité de David; Aza, son fils, régna à sa place.
9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam, king of Israel, Asa, king of Judah, began to reign;	9 La vingtième année de Jéroboam roi d’Israël, Aza devint roi de Juda.
10 he reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem. His grandmother's name was Maacah, daughter of Abishalom.	10 Il régna 41 ans à Jérusalem; sa grand-mère était Maaka fille d’Absalom.
11 Asa pleased the LORD like his forefather David,	11 Aza fit ce qui est juste aux yeux de Yahvé comme David son père,
12 banishing the temple prostitutes from the land and removing all the idols his father had made.	12 il fit disparaître du pays les prostitués et il enleva toutes les idoles que ses pères avaient faites.
13 He also deposed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother, because she had made an outrageous object for Asherah. Asa cut down this object and burned it in the Kidron Valley.	13 Il retira même à sa grand-mère Maaka la dignité de Grande Dame, car elle avait fait une idole honteuse en l’honneur d’Astarté; Aza abattit cette idole honteuse et la brûla dans la vallée du Cédron.
14 The high places did not disappear; yet Asa's heart was entirely with the LORD as long as he lived.	14 Les Hauts-Lieux ne disparurent pas: cela n’empêche que Aza se comporta bien vis-à-vis de Yahvé durant toute sa vie.
15 He brought into the temple of the LORD his father's and his own votive offerings of silver, gold, and various utensils.	15 Il déposa dans la Maison de Yahvé les objets que son père avait consacrés, tout comme ceux qu’il avait consacrés lui-même: de l’argent, de l’or et des vases.
16 There was war between Asa and Baasha, king of Israel, as long as they both reigned.	16 Entre Aza et Bacha, roi d’Israël, ce fut la guerre durant toute leur vie.
17 Baasha, king of Israel, attacked Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent communication with Asa, king of Judah.	17 Bacha, roi d’Israël, marcha contre Juda et fortifia Rama pour barrer la route à Aza, roi de Juda.
18 Asa then took all the silver and gold remaining in the treasuries of the temple of the LORD and of the royal palace. Entrusting them to his ministers, King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad, son of Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, king of Aram, resident in Damascus. He said:	18 Aza rassembla alors tout l’argent et tout l’or qui étaient restés dans les trésors de la Maison de Yahvé et dans les trésors du palais royal; il les confia à ses serviteurs en même temps qu’il les envoyait vers Ben-Hadad fils de Tabrimon, fils de Hézyon, qui était roi d’Aram à Damas. Ils lui portèrent ce message:
19 "There is a treaty between you and me, as there was between your father and my father. I am sending you a present of silver and gold. Go, break your treaty with Baasha, king of Israel, that he may withdraw from me."	19 “Qu’il y ait alliance entre moi et toi, entre mon père et ton père. Je te fais remettre une belle somme d’argent et d’or, mais brise ton alliance avec Bacha, roi d’Israël, pour qu’il s’éloigne de moi.”
20 Ben-hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the leaders of his troops against the cities of Israel. They attacked Ijon, Dan, Abel-beth-maacah, and all Chinnereth, besides all the land of Naphtali.	20 Ben-Hadad écouta le roi Aza, il envoya ses chefs d’armée à l’assaut des villes d’Israël. Il frappa Iyon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maaka, toute la région du lac de Kinnéret et le pays de Nephtali tout entier.
21 When Baasha heard of it, he left off fortifying Ramah, and stayed in Tirzah.	21 Voyant cela, Bacha arrêta les travaux de fortification de Rama et rentra à Tirsa.
22 Then King Asa summoned all Judah without exception, and they carried away the stones and beams with which Baasha was fortifying Ramah. With them King Asa built Geba of Benjamin and Mizpeh.	22 Le roi Aza convoqua alors tout Juda sans aucune exception: on enleva les pierres et le bois avec lesquels Bacha fortifiait Rama, et le roi Aza s’en servit pour fortifier Guéba de Benjamin et Mispa.
23 The rest of the acts of Asa, with all his valor and accomplishments, and the cities he built, are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah. In his old age, Asa had an infirmity in his feet.	23 Le reste des actes d’Aza, ses exploits, tout ce qu’il a fait, les villes qu’il a construites, cela n’est-il pas écrit au livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda? À part cela, dans sa vieillesse il fut malade des pieds.
24 He rested with his ancestors; he was buried in his forefather's City of David, and his son Jehoshaphat succeeded him as king.	24 Lorsque Aza se coucha avec ses pères, on l’enterra avec ses pères dans la cité de David son ancêtre, et son fils Josaphat régna à sa place.
25 In the second year of Asa, king of Judah, Nadab, son of Jeroboam, became king of Israel; he reigned over Israel two years.	25 Nadab, fils de Jéroboam, devint roi d’Israël dans la seconde année d’Aza roi de Juda; il régna deux ans sur Israël.
26 He did evil in the LORD'S sight, imitating his father's conduct and the sin which he had caused Israel to commit.	26 Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahvé, il suivit les traces de son père et le péché dans lequel il avait entraîné Israël.
27 Baasha, son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, plotted against him and struck him down at Gibbethon of the Philistines, which Nadab and all Israel were besieging.	27 Bacha fils d’Ahiya, de la tribu d’Issacar, conspira contre lui et, pendant que Nadab avec tout Israël assiégeait la ville philistine de Guibéton, il l’assassina.
28 Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa, king of Judah, and reigned in his stead.	28 Bacha le mit à mort en l’an trois du règne d’Aza de Juda et régna à sa place.
29 Once he was king, he killed off the entire house of Jeroboam, not leaving a single soul to Jeroboam but destroying him utterly, according to the warning which the LORD had pronounced through his servant, Ahijah the Shilonite,	29 Dès qu’il fut roi, il détruisit la maison de Jéroboam tout entière; il n’y épargna aucun être vivant, mais il les tua tous selon la parole que Yahvé avait dite par son serviteur Ahiya de Silo.
30 because of the sins Jeroboam committed and caused Israel to commit, by which he provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger.	30 En effet, Jéroboam avait excité la colère de Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, par les péchés qu’il avait commis et dans lesquels il avait entraîné Israël.

33 In the third year of Asa, king of Judah, Baasha, son of Ahijah, began his twenty-four-year reign over Israel in Tirzah.	33 En l’an trois du règne d’Aza de Juda, Bacha, fils d’Ahiya, commença à régner sur Israël à Tirsa; il régna 24 ans.
34 He did evil in the LORD'S sight, imitating the conduct of Jeroboam and the sin he had caused Israel to commit.	34 Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahvé, il suivit les traces de Jéroboam et le péché dans lequel il avait entraîné Israël.
