Genesis 17

1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said: "I am God the Almighty. Walk in my presence and be blameless.	1 Als nun Abram neunundneunzig Jahre alt war, erschien ihm der HERR und sagte zu ihm: »Ich bin der allmächtige Gott: wandle vor mir und sei fromm!
2 Between you and me I will establish my covenant, and I will multiply you exceedingly."	2 Ich will einen Bund zwischen mir und dir stiften und dich überaus zahlreich werden lassen.«
3 When Abram prostrated himself, God continued to speak to him:	3 Da warf sich Abram auf sein Angesicht nieder; Gott aber redete weiter mit ihm so:
4 "My covenant with you is this: you are to become the father of a host of nations.	4 »Wisse wohl: mein Bund mit dir geht dahin, daß du der Stammvater einer Menge von Völkern werden sollst.
5 No longer shall you be called Abram; your name shall be Abraham, for I am making you the father of a host of nations.	5 Darum sollst du hinfort nicht mehr Abram (d.h. erhabener Vater) heißen, sondern dein Name soll jetzt Abraham (d.h. Vater einer Menge) lauten; denn zum Stammvater einer Menge von Völkern habe ich dich bestimmt.
6 I will render you exceedingly fertile; I will make nations of you; kings shall stem from you.	6 Ich will dich also überaus zahlreich werden lassen und dich zu (ganzen) Völkern machen; auch Könige sollen von dir abstammen.
7 I will maintain my covenant with you and your descendants after you throughout the ages as an everlasting pact, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.	7 Und ich will meinen Bund errichten (oder: aufrechterhalten) zwischen mir und dir und deinen Nachkommen nach dir, Geschlecht für Geschlecht, als einen ewigen Bund, um dein Gott zu sein und (der Gott) deiner Nachkommen nach dir.
8 I will give to you and to your descendants after you the land in which you are now staying, the whole land of Canaan, as a permanent possession; and I will be their God."	8 Und ich will dir und deinen Nachkommen nach dir das Land, in dem du (jetzt) als Fremdling weilst, nämlich das ganze Land Kanaan, zum ewigen Besitz geben und will ihr Gott sein.«
9 God also said to Abraham: "On your part, you and your descendants after you must keep my covenant throughout the ages.	9 Weiter sagte Gott zu Abraham: »Was dich aber betrifft, so sollst du den Bund mit mir halten, du samt deinen Nachkommen nach dir, Geschlecht für Geschlecht!
10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you that you must keep: every male among you shall be circumcised.	10 Dies aber ist mein Bund, den ihr halten sollt und der zwischen mir und euch und deinen Nachkommen nach dir besteht: Alles Männliche soll bei euch beschnitten werden!
11 Circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and that shall be the mark of the covenant between you and me.	11 Und zwar sollt ihr am Fleisch eurer Vorhaut beschnitten werden: das soll das Zeichen des Bundes zwischen mir und euch sein!
12 Throughout the ages, every male among you, when he is eight days old, shall be circumcised, including houseborn slaves and those acquired with money from any foreigner who is not of your blood.	12 Jedes Knäblein soll im Alter von acht Tagen bei euch die Beschneidung empfangen, Geschlecht für Geschlecht, auch der im Hause geborene, sowie der für Geld von irgendeinem Fremden gekaufte Knecht, mag er auch nicht zu deiner Nachkommenschaft gehören.
13 Yes, both the houseborn slaves and those acquired with money must be circumcised. Thus my covenant shall be in your flesh as an everlasting pact.	13 Ja, beschnitten soll werden sowohl der in deinem Hause geborene als auch der für Geld von dir gekaufte Knecht: darin soll mein Bundeszeichen an eurem Leibe bestehen als ein ewiges Bundeszeichen!
14 If a male is uncircumcised, that is, if the flesh of his foreskin has not been cut away, such a one shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."	14 Ein unbeschnittener Männlicher aber, der am Fleisch seiner Vorhaut nicht beschnitten worden ist – ein solcher Mensch soll aus seinen Volksgenossen ausgerottet werden: meinen Bund hat er gebrochen!«
15 God further said to Abraham: "As for your wife Sarai, do not call her Sarai; her name shall be Sarah.	15 Weiter sprach Gott zu Abraham: »Deine Frau Sarai sollst du nicht mehr Sarai nennen, sondern Sara (d.h. Fürstin) soll ihr Name sein.
16 I will bless her, and I will give you a son by her. Him also will I bless; he shall give rise to nations, and rulers of peoples shall issue from him."	16 Denn ich will sie segnen und dir auch von ihr einen Sohn geben; ja ich will sie segnen, daß sie zu (ganzen) Völkern werden soll; sogar Könige von Völkerschaften sollen von ihr abstammen.«
17 Abraham prostrated himself and laughed as he said to himself, "Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Or can Sarah give birth at ninety?"	17 Da warf sich Abraham auf sein Angesicht nieder und lachte; denn er dachte bei sich: »Einem Hundertjährigen soll noch (ein Sohn) geboren werden? Und die neunzigjährige Sara soll noch Mutter werden?«
18 Then Abraham said to God, "Let but Ishmael live on by your favor!"	18 So sagte denn Abraham zu Gott: »Ach möchte nur Ismael vor dir am Leben bleiben!«
19 God replied: "Nevertheless, your wife Sarah is to bear you a son, and you shall call him Isaac. I will maintain my covenant with him as an everlasting pact, to be his God and the God of his descendants after him.	19 Doch Gott antwortete: »Ganz gewiß wird deine Frau Sara dir einen Sohn gebären, den du Isaak (d.h. Lacher) nennen sollst; und ich will meinen Bund mit ihm aufrichten (oder: aufrechterhalten) als einen ewigen Bund für seine Nachkommen nach ihm.
20 As for Ishmael, I am heeding you: I hereby bless him. I will make him fertile and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall become the father of twelve chieftains, and I will make of him a great nation.	20 Aber auch in betreff Ismaels habe ich dich erhört; wisse wohl: ich will ihn segnen und fruchtbar werden lassen und ihm eine überaus zahlreiche Nachkommenschaft verleihen: zwölf Fürsten soll er zu Nachkommen haben, und zu einem großen Volke will ich ihn machen.
21 But my covenant I will maintain with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you by this time next year."	21 Jedoch meinen Bund will ich mit Isaak aufrichten (oder: aufrechterhalten), der dir von Sara übers Jahr um diese Zeit geboren werden soll.«
22 When he had finished speaking with him, God departed from Abraham.	22 Als Gott nun seine Unterredung mit Abraham beendet hatte, fuhr er (zum Himmel) empor von Abraham weg.
23 Then Abraham took his son Ishmael and all his slaves, whether born in his house or acquired with his money--every male among the members of Abraham's household--and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins on that same day, as God had told him to do.	23 Darauf nahm Abraham seinen Sohn Ismael und alle in seinem Hause geborenen Knechte sowie alle für Geld von ihm gekauften Knechte, alle männlichen Personen unter den Leuten in seinem Hause, und vollzog die Beschneidung an ihnen noch an eben diesem Tage, wie Gott es ihm geboten hatte.
24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when the flesh of his foreskin was circumcised,	24 Abraham war aber neunundneunzig Jahre alt, als er vorschriftsgemäß beschnitten wurde,
25 and his son Ishmael was thirteen years old when the flesh of his foreskin was circumcised.	25 und sein Sohn Ismael war dreizehn Jahre alt, als man ihn vorschriftsgemäß beschnitt.
26 Thus, on that same day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised;	26 An einem und demselben Tage wurden Abraham und sein Sohn Ismael beschnitten;
27 and all the male members of his household, including the slaves born in his house or acquired with his money from foreigners, were circumcised with him.	27 und mit ihm wurden alle männlichen Personen in seinem hause beschnitten, sowohl die im Hause geborenen als auch die für Geld von Fremden gekauften Knechte.
