Genesis 17

1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said: "I am God the Almighty. Walk in my presence and be blameless.	1 Abram aveva novantanove anni quando il Signore gli apparve e gli disse: "Io sono Dio onnipotente: cammina nella mia presenza e sii integro.
2 Between you and me I will establish my covenant, and I will multiply you exceedingly."	2 Stabilirò la mia alleanza tra me e te, e ti moltiplicherò grandemente".
3 When Abram prostrated himself, God continued to speak to him:	3 Subito Abram si prostrò col viso a terra, e Dio gli disse:
4 "My covenant with you is this: you are to become the father of a host of nations.	4 "Ecco la mia alleanza con te: tu diventerai padre di una moltitudine di nazioni;
5 No longer shall you be called Abram; your name shall be Abraham, for I am making you the father of a host of nations.	5 e non ti chiamerai più Abram, ma il tuo nome sarà Abramo, perché io ti farò padre di una moltitudine di nazioni.
6 I will render you exceedingly fertile; I will make nations of you; kings shall stem from you.	6 E ti renderò fecondo assai assai, di te farò delle nazioni e dei re usciranno da te.
7 I will maintain my covenant with you and your descendants after you throughout the ages as an everlasting pact, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.	7 Farò sussistere la mia alleanza con te e con la tua discendenza dopo di te, di generazione in generazione, quale alleanza perenne, per essere il Dio tuo e della tua discendenza dopo di te.
8 I will give to you and to your descendants after you the land in which you are now staying, the whole land of Canaan, as a permanent possession; and I will be their God."	8 E darò a te e alla tua discendenza dopo di te la terra dove soggiorni come straniero, tutta la terra di Canaan, quale possesso perenne; e così diverrò vostro Dio".
9 God also said to Abraham: "On your part, you and your descendants after you must keep my covenant throughout the ages.	9 Inoltre Dio disse ad Abramo: "Da parte tua, tu devi osservare la mia alleanza, tu e la tua discendenza dopo di te, di generazione in generazione.
10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you that you must keep: every male among you shall be circumcised.	10 Questa è la mia alleanza che dovete osservare, alleanza tra me e voi e la tua discendenza dopo di te: sarà circonciso ogni vostro maschio.
11 Circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and that shall be the mark of the covenant between you and me.	11 Vi farete cioè recidere la carne del vostro prepuzio. E ciò sarà il segno dell'alleanza tra me e voi.
12 Throughout the ages, every male among you, when he is eight days old, shall be circumcised, including houseborn slaves and those acquired with money from any foreigner who is not of your blood.	12 Quando avrà otto giorni sarà circonciso ogni vostro maschio, di generazione in generazione, tanto quello nato in casa, come quello comprato con danaro da qualunque straniero che non sia della tua stirpe.
13 Yes, both the houseborn slaves and those acquired with money must be circumcised. Thus my covenant shall be in your flesh as an everlasting pact.	13 Deve essere assolutamente circonciso colui che è nato in casa e colui che viene comprato con danaro; così la mia alleanza sussisterà nella vostra carne quale alleanza perenne.
14 If a male is uncircumcised, that is, if the flesh of his foreskin has not been cut away, such a one shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."	14 Un incirconciso, un maschio cioè di cui non sia stata recisa la carne del prepuzio, sia eliminato dal suo popolo, perché ha violato la mia alleanza".
15 God further said to Abraham: "As for your wife Sarai, do not call her Sarai; her name shall be Sarah.	15 Poi Dio disse ad Abramo: "Quanto a Sarai, tua moglie, non la chiamerai più Sarai, ma Sara è il suo nome.
16 I will bless her, and I will give you a son by her. Him also will I bless; he shall give rise to nations, and rulers of peoples shall issue from him."	16 Io la benedirò e pure un figlio ti darò da lei, e lo benedirò, sicché diventerà nazioni; e re di popoli nasceranno da lui".
17 Abraham prostrated himself and laughed as he said to himself, "Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Or can Sarah give birth at ninety?"	17 Allora Abramo si prostrò col viso a terra e rise, dicendo in cuor suo: "Ad uno di cento anni nascerà un figlio? E Sara, all'età di novant'anni, potrà partorire?".
18 Then Abraham said to God, "Let but Ishmael live on by your favor!"	18 Poi Abramo disse a Dio: "Che almeno Ismaele viva sotto il tuo sguardo!".
19 God replied: "Nevertheless, your wife Sarah is to bear you a son, and you shall call him Isaac. I will maintain my covenant with him as an everlasting pact, to be his God and the God of his descendants after him.	19 Ma Dio rispose: "No, Sara tua moglie ti partorirà un figlio, e lo chiamerai Isacco. Io farò sussistere la mia alleanza con lui quale alleanza perenne, per essere il Dio per lui e per la sua discendenza dopo di lui.
20 As for Ishmael, I am heeding you: I hereby bless him. I will make him fertile and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall become the father of twelve chieftains, and I will make of him a great nation.	20 Anche riguardo ad Ismaele ti ho esaudito; ecco che io lo renderò fecondo e lo benedirò grandemente: dodici capi egli genererà e di lui farò una grande nazione.
21 But my covenant I will maintain with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you by this time next year."	21 Ma farò sussistere la mia alleanza con Isacco, che Sara ti partorirà in questo tempo, l'anno venturo".
22 When he had finished speaking with him, God departed from Abraham.	22 Dio terminò così di parlare con lui e salì in alto, lasciando Abramo.
23 Then Abraham took his son Ishmael and all his slaves, whether born in his house or acquired with his money--every male among the members of Abraham's household--and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskins on that same day, as God had told him to do.	23 Allora Abramo prese Ismaele suo figlio e tutti i nati nella sua casa e tutti quelli comprati col suo danaro, ogni maschio tra gli uomini della casa di Abramo e circoncise la carne del loro prepuzio, in quello stesso giorno, come Dio gli aveva detto.
24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when the flesh of his foreskin was circumcised,	24 Or Abramo aveva novantanove anni quando si fece circoncidere la carne del prepuzio.
25 and his son Ishmael was thirteen years old when the flesh of his foreskin was circumcised.	25 E Ismaele, suo figlio, aveva tredici anni quando gli si circoncise la carne del prepuzio.
26 Thus, on that same day Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised;	26 In quello stesso giorno ricevettero la circoncisione Abramo e Ismaele suo figlio;
27 and all the male members of his household, including the slaves born in his house or acquired with his money from foreigners, were circumcised with him.	27 e tutti gli uomini della sua casa, i nati in casa e i comprati con danaro dagli stranieri, ricevettero con lui la circoncisione.
