1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,	1 Gesù riprese a parlar loro in parabole e disse:
2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,	2 "E' simile il regno dei cieli a un re il quale fece un banchetto di nozze per suo figlio.
3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.	3 Egli mandò i suoi servi a chiamare coloro che erano stati invitati alle nozze; ma questi non vollero venire.
4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.	4 Di nuovo mandò altri servi dicendo: "Dite agli invitati: ecco, ho preparato il mio pranzo: i miei buoi e gli animali ingrassati sono già stati macellati e tutto è pronto; venite alle nozze".
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:	5 Ma essi, noncuranti, andarono chi ai propri campi, chi ai propri affari.
6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.	6 Altri poi, presi i servi, li maltrattarono e li uccisero.
7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.	7 Il re, adiratosi, inviò i suoi eserciti ad annientare quegli omicidi e a incendiarne la città.
8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.	8 Dice quindi ai servi: "Il banchetto nuziale è pronto, ma gli invitati non ne erano degni.
9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.	9 Andate dunque ai crocicchi delle vie e chiamate alle nozze tutti quelli che troverete".
10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.	10 Andarono quei servi per le vie e radunarono tutti quelli che trovarono, buoni e cattivi; e così la sala si riempì di commensali.
11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:	11 Entrato il re a vedere i commensali, trovò là un uomo che non indossava la veste nuziale.
12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.	12 Gli dice: "Amico, come mai sei entrato qui senza la veste nuziale?". Egli ammutolì.
13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.	13 Allora il re disse ai suoi servitori: "Legatelo mani e piedi e gettatelo nelle tenebre esteriori: là sarà pianto e stridore di denti".
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.	14 Infatti molti sono chiamati, ma pochi eletti".
15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.	15 Allora i farisei, ritiratisi, tennero consiglio per vedere come coglierlo in fallo nei suoi discorsi.
16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.	16 Mandarono dunque a lui i propri discepoli, insieme agli erodiani, per dirgli: "Maestro, sappiamo che sei veritiero e che insegni la via di Dio con verità e che non hai soggezione di nessuno; infatti non guardi in faccia ad alcuno.
17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?	17 Dicci dunque il tuo parere: è lecito o no pagare il tributo a Cesare?".
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?	18 Gesù, conoscendo la loro malizia, disse: "Perché volete tentarmi, ipocriti?
19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.	19 Mostratemi la moneta del tributo". Essi gli presentarono un denaro.
20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?	20 Dice loro: "Di chi è l'effigie con l'iscrizione?".
21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.	21 Rispondono: "Di Cesare". Ed egli disse loro: "Date dunque a Cesare quello che è di Cesare e a Dio quello che è di Dio".
22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.	22 All'udir ciò rimasero stupiti e, lasciatolo, se ne andarono.
23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,	23 In quel giorno si avvicinarono a lui dei sadducei, quelli che affermano non esserci risurrezione, e lo interrogarono
24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.	24 dicendo: "Maestro, Mosè ha ordinato: Se uno muore senza figli, suo fratello ne sposerà la vedova e così darà a suo fratello una discendenza.
25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:	25 Ora c'erano fra noi sette fratelli. Il primo appena sposato, morì e, non avendo discendenza, lasciò la moglie a suo fratello.
26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.	26 La stessa cosa accadde al secondo e al terzo, fino al settimo.
27 And last of all the woman died also.	27 Dopo di tutti, morì anche la donna.
28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.	28 Ora, nella risurrezione, di chi fra i sette sarà moglie? Infatti appartenne a tutti".
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.	29 Gesù rispose: "Siete in errore, poiché non conoscete le Scritture né la potenza di Dio.
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.	30 Infatti nella risurrezione non si prende né moglie né marito, ma si è come angeli di Dio in cielo.
31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,	31 Quanto poi alla risurrezione dei morti, non avete letto ciò che a voi disse Dio:
32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.	32 Io sono il Dio di Abramo, il Dio di Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe? Dio non è un Dio di morti, ma di viventi".
33 And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.	33 All'udir ciò, le folle rimanevano stupite per la sua dottrina.
34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.	34 I farisei, saputo che Gesù aveva messo a tacere i sadducei, si radunarono insieme,
35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,	35 e uno di loro, dottore della legge, lo interrogò per metterlo alla prova:
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?	36 "Maestro, qual è il precetto più grande della legge?".
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.	37 Egli rispose: "Amerai il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta la tua anima, con tutta la tua mente.
38 This is the first and great commandment.	38 Questo è il più grande e il primo dei precetti.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.	39 Ma il secondo è simile ad esso: Amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.	40 Da questi due precetti dipende tutta la legge e i profeti".
41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,	41 Radunatisi i farisei, Gesù li interrogò
42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.	42 dicendo: "Che cosa pensate del Cristo? Di chi è figlio?". Gli rispondono: "Di Davide".
43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,	43 Dice loro: "Come dunque Davide, sotto l'influsso dello Spirito, lo chiama Signore quando dice:
44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?	44 Ha detto il Signore al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra finché ponga i tuoi nemici come sgabello dei tuoi piedi?
45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?	45 Se, dunque, Davide lo chiama Signore, come può essere suo figlio?".
46 And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.	46 Nessuno seppe rispondergli una parola; e da quel giorno nessuno osò più fargli delle domande.
