Sirach 9

1 Be not jealous over the wife of thy bosom, and teach her not an evil lesson against thyself.	1 Non essere geloso della donna del tuo seno, chè essa non mostri a tuo danno la malizia dell'idea malvagia.
2 Give not thy soul unto a woman to set her foot upon thy substance.	2 Non dare alla donna potere sopra di te, chè non ti metta i piedi sul collo e tu ne resti svergognato.
3 Meet not with an harlot, lest thou fall into her snares.	3 Non guardar la donna dalle molte voglie, per non cadere nei suoi lacci.
4 Use not much the company of a woman that is a singer, lest thou be taken with her attempts.	4 Non frequentare la ballerina, non la stare a sentire, se non vuoi perire per le arti, di lei.
5 Gaze not on a maid, that thou fall not by those things that are precious in her.	5 Non mirare una vergine, chè la sua bellezza non ti sia occasione di caduta.
6 Give not thy soul unto harlots, that thou lose not thine inheritance.	6 Non ti abbandonare in nessuna maniera alle meretrici, per non rovinare te stesso e il tuo patrimonio.
7 Look not round about thee in the streets of the city, neither wander thou in the solitary place thereof.	7 Non menar gli occhi in giro per le vie della città, e non andar vagando per le piazze.
8 Turn away thine eye from a beautiful woman, and look not upon another's beauty; for many have been deceived by the beauty of a woman; for herewith love is kindled as a fire.	8 Rivolgi lo sguardo dalla donna abbigliata, e non mi­rare una bellezza non tua.
9 Sit not at all with another man's wife, nor sit down with her in thine arms, and spend not thy money with her at the wine; lest thine heart incline unto her, and so through thy desire thou fall into destruction.	9 Per la bellezza della donna molti andarono in perdizione, e da essa viene accesa come fuoco la con cupiscenza.
10 Forsake not an old friend; for the new is not comparable to him: a new friend is as new wine; when it is old, thou shalt drink it with pleasure.	10 Ogni donna impudica sarà calpestata come sterco nella via.
11 Envy not the glory of a sinner: for thou knowest not what shall be his end.	11 Molti per aver mirata la bellezza di donne altrui diventarono reprobi. Il trattenersi con lei è come fuoco fiammante.
12 Delight not in the thing that the ungodly have pleasure in; but remember they shall not go unpunished unto their grave.	12 Non seder giammai col la donna altrui e non t'appoggiare sul gomito con lei.
13 Keep thee far from the man that hath power to kill; so shalt thou not doubt the fear of death: and if thou come unto him, make no fault, lest he take away thy life presently: remember that thou goest in the midst of snares, and that thou walkest upon the battlements of the city.	13 E nel vino non disputare con lei, chè non pieghi verso di lei il tuo cuore, e tra il tuo sangue non vada in perdizione.
14 As near as thou canst, guess at thy neighbour, and consult with the wise.	14 Non abbandonare il vecchio amico, perchè il nuovo noe sarà come quello.
15 Let thy talk be with the wise, and all thy communication in the law of the most High.	15 L'amico nuovo è vino nuovo, lascialo invecchiare, e lo berrai con gusto.
16 And let just men eat and drink with thee; and let thy glorying be in the fear of the Lord.	16 Non invidiare la gloria e le ricchezze del peccatore, perchè non sai quale rovina lo incalza.
17 For the hand of the artificer the work shall be commended: and the wise ruler of the people for his speech.	17 Non ti piacciano le ingiustizie degli empi, sapendo che l'empio non ti piacerà fin nell'inferno.
18 A man of an ill tongue is dangerous in his city; and he that is rash in his talk shall be hated.	18 Sta lontano da colui che ha il potere di uccidere, e non penserai al timore della morte.
	19 E se ti avvicini a lui guardati dal commettere qualche cosa, affinchè egli non ti tolga la vita.
	20 Devi sape re che tu comunichi colla morte, chè t'inoltri in mezzo ai lacci e passeggi sopra le armi di gente irritata.
	21 Per quanto puoi, guardati dal tuo prossimo, e tratta coi sapienti e coi prudenti.
	22 I tuoi commensali siano uomini giusti, e il tuo vanto sia nel timor di Dio.
	23 Nel tuo spirito sia il pensiero di Dio, ed ogni tuo ragionamento riguardi i precetti dell'Altissimo.
	24 Le opere son lodate per la mano dell'artista, il principe del popolo per la saviezza del suo discorso, le parole dei vecchi per la prudenza.
	25 L'uomo linguacciuto è terribile nella sua città, e chi è temerario nel parlare merita d'essere odiato.
