Sirach 9

1 Be not jealous over the wife of thy bosom, and teach her not an evil lesson against thyself.	1 Non esser geloso della donna unita teco in matrimonio, affinchè ella non adopri in tuo danno la malizia de' pravi insegnamenti.
2 Give not thy soul unto a woman to set her foot upon thy substance.	2 Non far che la tua moglie abbia dominio sopra il tuo spirito, affinchè ella non ti soverchi, e tu ne resti con vergogna.
3 Meet not with an harlot, lest thou fall into her snares.	3 Non gettar gli occhi sopra la donna, che ama molti, per non cader ne' suoi lacci.
4 Use not much the company of a woman that is a singer, lest thou be taken with her attempts.	4 Non frequentare la ballerina, e non istare a sentirla, se non vuoi perire per le arti di lei.
5 Gaze not on a maid, that thou fall not by those things that are precious in her.	5 Non mirare la vergine, affinchè la sua avvenenza non sia a te occasion di caduta.
6 Give not thy soul unto harlots, that thou lose not thine inheritance.	6 Non soggettare in verun modo l'anima tua alle meretrici per non mandare in perdizione te stesso, e la un eredità.
7 Look not round about thee in the streets of the city, neither wander thou in the solitary place thereof.	7 Non menar gli occhi attorno pelle contrade della città, e non andar vagando per le piazze.
8 Turn away thine eye from a beautiful woman, and look not upon another's beauty; for many have been deceived by the beauty of a woman; for herewith love is kindled as a fire.	8 Rivolgi lo sguardo dalla donna pomposamente abbigliata, e non mirare studiosamente una straniera beltà:
9 Sit not at all with another man's wife, nor sit down with her in thine arms, and spend not thy money with her at the wine; lest thine heart incline unto her, and so through thy desire thou fall into destruction.	9 La beltà della donna fu la perdizione di molti; e per essa la concupiscenza qual fuoco si accende.
10 Forsake not an old friend; for the new is not comparable to him: a new friend is as new wine; when it is old, thou shalt drink it with pleasure.	10 Qualunque donna impudica è calpestata da tutti, come il sudiciume delle strade.
11 Envy not the glory of a sinner: for thou knowest not what shall be his end.	11 Molti invischiati dalla bellezza di donna straniera di ventanni reprobi; perocché il cicalio di lei abbrugia come il fuoco.
12 Delight not in the thing that the ungodly have pleasure in; but remember they shall not go unpunished unto their grave.	12 Non sedere giammai colla donna altrui, e non istare con lei a tavola appoggiato sul gomito:
13 Keep thee far from the man that hath power to kill; so shalt thou not doubt the fear of death: and if thou come unto him, make no fault, lest he take away thy life presently: remember that thou goest in the midst of snares, and that thou walkest upon the battlements of the city.	13 E non disputar con lei a chi più beve, affinchè non si pieghi il tuo cuore verso di lei, e a spese del tuo sangue tu non cada nella perdizione.
14 As near as thou canst, guess at thy neighbour, and consult with the wise.	14 Non abbandonare il vecchio amico; perocché il nuovo non sarà come quello.
15 Let thy talk be with the wise, and all thy communication in the law of the most High.	15 L'amico nuovo è un vino nuovo: invecchierà, e tu lo berai soave.
16 And let just men eat and drink with thee; and let thy glorying be in the fear of the Lord.	16 Non invidiare al peccatore la sua gloria, e le sue ricchezze; perocché tu non sai qual sia per essere la sua catastrofe.
17 For the hand of the artificer the work shall be commended: and the wise ruler of the people for his speech.	17 Non piacciano a te le violenze commesse dagli uomini ingiusti: tu sai, che non piacerà (a te) l'empio quando sia disceso nel sepolcro.
18 A man of an ill tongue is dangerous in his city; and he that is rash in his talk shall be hated.	18 Sta lungi da colui, che ha il potere di uccidere, e non avrai ansietà per timor della morte:
	19 E se mai ti avvicini a lui, bada di non far cosa, per cui egli ti tolga la vita.
	20 Sappi, che tu conversi colla morte; perocché tu cammini in mezzo ai lacci, e passeggi tralle armi di gente sdegnosa.
	21 Per quanto tu puoi cammina con cautela riguardo al tuo prossimo, e tratta co' saggi, e prudenti.
	22 Siano uomini giusti i tuoi convitati, e il tuo vanto sia di temer Dio.
	23 Il pensiero di Dio sia fisso nell'animo tuo, e tutti i tuoi ragionamenti siano de' comandamenti dell'Altissimo.
	24 Le opere dell'artefice han lode dalla industria loro, e il principe del popolo dalla saggezza del suo discorso, e il discorso dei vecchj dalla prudenza.
	25 L'uom linguacciuto nella sua città è terribile, e chi è temerario a parlare, merita di esser odiato.
