1 Be not jealous over the wife of thy bosom, and teach her not an evil lesson against thyself.	1 Ne sois pas jaloux de la femme que tu aimes: tu ferais naître chez elle la tentation de te tromper.
2 Give not thy soul unto a woman to set her foot upon thy substance.	2 Ne te remets entre les mains d’aucune femme au point qu’elle ait l’avantage sur toi.
3 Meet not with an harlot, lest thou fall into her snares.	3 Ne t’approche pas d’une femme de mauvaise réputation: tu pourrais tomber dans ses filets.
4 Use not much the company of a woman that is a singer, lest thou be taken with her attempts.	4 Ne traîne pas avec une chanteuse: tu te ferais prendre à ses pièges.
5 Gaze not on a maid, that thou fall not by those things that are precious in her.	5 N’arrête pas tes regards sur une jeune fille: tu pourrais te condamner avec elle.
6 Give not thy soul unto harlots, that thou lose not thine inheritance.	6 Ne tombe pas entre les mains des prostituées: tu y perdrais tout ton avoir.
7 Look not round about thee in the streets of the city, neither wander thou in the solitary place thereof.	7 Ne regarde pas de tous côtés dans les rues de la ville, ne traîne pas dans les coins déserts.
8 Turn away thine eye from a beautiful woman, and look not upon another's beauty; for many have been deceived by the beauty of a woman; for herewith love is kindled as a fire.	8 Détourne les yeux d’une jolie femme, ne dévisage pas une belle inconnue. La beauté d’une femme en a fait tomber beaucoup; elle suffit pour enflammer la passion.
9 Sit not at all with another man's wife, nor sit down with her in thine arms, and spend not thy money with her at the wine; lest thine heart incline unto her, and so through thy desire thou fall into destruction.	9 Ne t’assieds pas, ne t’attable avec une femme mariée pour boire du vin avec elle, de peur que cela n’éveille en toi le désir et que la passion te fasse glisser et chuter.
10 Forsake not an old friend; for the new is not comparable to him: a new friend is as new wine; when it is old, thou shalt drink it with pleasure.	10 N’abandonne pas un vieil ami: le nouveau ne le vaudra pas. Nouvel ami, vin nouveau; laisse-les vieillir et tu les boiras avec plaisir.
11 Envy not the glory of a sinner: for thou knowest not what shall be his end.	11 N’envie pas la réussite du pécheur, tu ne sais pas quelle sera la fin.
12 Delight not in the thing that the ungodly have pleasure in; but remember they shall not go unpunished unto their grave.	12 Ne te réjouis pas de la réussite des renégats: souviens-toi que leur châtiment n’attendra pas leur mort.
13 Keep thee far from the man that hath power to kill; so shalt thou not doubt the fear of death: and if thou come unto him, make no fault, lest he take away thy life presently: remember that thou goest in the midst of snares, and that thou walkest upon the battlements of the city.	13 Reste loin de celui qui est capable de tuer, et tu ne craindras pas de mourir. Si tu t’approches de lui, évite de le heurter, car il pourrait t’ôter la vie: tu sais que tu t’avances au milieu de pièges, que tu marches sur le haut d’un mur.
14 As near as thou canst, guess at thy neighbour, and consult with the wise.	14 Autant que tu le peux, montre-toi sociable, et tiens conseil avec les sages.
15 Let thy talk be with the wise, and all thy communication in the law of the most High.	15 Aime converser avec des gens intelligents; que tous vos entretiens roulent autour de la Loi du Très-Haut.
16 And let just men eat and drink with thee; and let thy glorying be in the fear of the Lord.	16 Que les hommes droits fréquentent ta table; que la crainte du Seigneur soit ta fierté.
17 For the hand of the artificer the work shall be commended: and the wise ruler of the people for his speech.	17 On juge l’artisan à son travail, et le chef du peuple à ses sages interventions.
18 A man of an ill tongue is dangerous in his city; and he that is rash in his talk shall be hated.	18 L’homme fort en paroles est redouté dans sa ville; on déteste celui qui parle à tort et à travers.
